Tool Time has suddenly become a hot commodity on the Swedish market. If they are successful, the show will become popular all over Europe. Hey, if Jerry Lewis could do it, so could Tim Taylor, right? Hopefully their big Salute to Men show will make an everlasting impression on their Swede buyers. Tim seemed confident enough, but brown-nosing producer Fred is incredibly nervous. Turns out their planned celebrity guests, the Andrettis had to cancel at the last minute, or rather, they canceled well in advance but Fred was too chicken to tell Tim. However, he's got some alternates in mind. Well, on with the show! The Swedish buyers watch as Tim and Al commence on their first project: a walnut valet. Surprisingly it goes very well. Next, Wilson guest stars to show the folks some indoor rock climbing. He attaches a harness to Tim and holds the rope while he climbs up the makeshift rock wall they've erected. Unfortunately, the dumbkopf misunderstands directions and lets go prematurely. Tim blames Fred for his own mistake and he happily accepts it. Well, maybe they'll have better luck with Gadget Corner. Tim and Al look at a satellite dish that fits in a suit case, a golf club drink dispenser, and a state-of-the-art waffle maker. Tim's even built a syrup dispenser to go with it. Uh oh.
As expected, the gadget misfires, spraying the Swedes with jelly. So after yet another segment goes pear-shaped, it's time to interview that "big name" Fred managed to wrangle. A guy named Sy who works at animal control, in the roadkill department...boy, does he look familiar. He scrapes dead animals off the road, using no special equipment except an old shovel he found. The interview turns out to be about as interesting as a root canal, but to show his appreciation, Sy gives him a small token of his esteem: something in a brown paper bag. Tim accepts the gift and gives it to Fred. Well, just one segment left: the Man's Gym. It's got everything a man looks for in an ideal workout: don't wanna sit on a bench while you do reps? Just activate the built-in La-Z-Boy recliner. Want to snooze in lieu of a workout? Just have the machine do the workout for you. Too bad he's not George Jetson, because he seemed to have a machine that did a virtual workout for him while he slept. He still sweat...and speaking of sweat, in the Man's Gym, there's spray-on sweat for good measure. There's even a built-in health bar, run by one- note Milton. And last but not least, instead of a traditional exercise bike, the Man's Gym has an exercise Harley. Tim takes it for a spin...with predictable results. Well, in spite of everything, the Swedes decide to buy Tool Time. Not because of the Man's Gym, but because they're big fans of slapstick comedy in Sweden. Tim is the new Jerry Lewis. To celebrate, Tim accidentally sprays the men with Swedish Vodka. In the end, Tim receives a check for 1,500 Kroners, which Jill says equals to $22.83 (actually it's $220), as well as a Tool Time episode dubbed in Swedish, which actually seemed to make it funnier.
No real plot to this one, just one comic set piece after another. It's not very funny, just predictable and warrants a lot of groaners. To start, I thought the character of Fred was insanely annoying. He's never appeared before so I don't know why they had to throw him in there now. For laughs? Were they so desperate that they needed to throw in a bumbling, ass-kissing producer who acts more like a groupie intern to try and make us laugh? Guess what? It didn't work. Also, there's a notable guest appearance by Drew Carey as an unfunny roadkill scraper. I guess Tim Allen was returning the favor after Drew had him on his show. Remember the episode where Tim Allen gets stuck in a tree in Drew's backyard? He was parachuting or something. I wouldn't really recommend Totally Tool Time because it's totally not funny and totally irritating, or as they say in Swedish, det suger!
