What's something you absolutely need for the Super Bowl? Besides football, I mean. Eats. An array of spicy, salty, fatty, even nauseating snack foods to really get you into the playing spirit. On today's Tool Time, Tim and Al have invited three members of the Detroit Lions to show off their culinary skills in preparing exotic Super Bowl snacks. Their food might be innovative, but their teamwork leaves much to be desired. At home, Tim is gearing up for his big Super Bowl party, and what an affair it will be. The guys will be bringing enough cheese-covered snack foods to keep the local cardiologist in business for a long time. It's going to be a great Super Bowl Sunday. A real man's day. Hopefully nothing will happen to spoil Tim's good time. So as he hooks up surround sound speakers so he and the guys can experience the game as if they were right there in the stands, Mark comes in to tell him Jill is deathly ill. She's got influenza, which will put a big damper on Tim's Super Bowl Party, mainly because Jill wants him to give it up and take care of her instead. Tim begs to have the party, promising to keep the guys so quiet you could hear a penny nail drop. That might be a little hard, because when Pete, Harry, Larry, Benny and Al come over, they're blowing noisemakers like it's New Year's Eve. Of course, Tim is nice enough NOT to tell the guys he has a sick wife upstairs in bed, but her persistent wining over the intercom makes it more than clear. However, the only one who feels any remorse is Al.
When you want to be an attentive husband, as well as a die-hard sports fan, something's gotta give. So while Tim is upstairs bringing Jill some jell-o and giving her a 10-second back rub, he misses a really important pass. What's more, Benny decides to turn on the surround sound Tim hooked up... which shorts out the TV. The guys go through immediate Super Bowl withdrawls and dash upstairs looking for another TV set. Unfortunately, the only other set in the house is in Jill's room, but the guys have no qualms about crashing in on a sick woman and hijacking her TV. A humiliated Jill dives under the covers, but when Benny peeks in and offers her a sausage, she bails. Tim follows her downstairs as she goes on a tirade about how he is never considerate about her needs, especially when she's sick, and of course Tim is entirely in denial about that. Then he tries to shoo all the guys out of the bedroom, and when their only other option is watching the game on a microscopic, batter-operated TV, they decide to head over to Big Mike's and watch it there. So Tim stays home and watches the game through a magnifying glass and makes the best of it...until the tiny TV's batteries die. Seeing Wilson in his backyard, Tim tries to get some more batteries from him, but alas, he hasn't any double A's. Tim gripes about his ruined Super Bowl Sunday, about what Jill had said about him not being a very good nurturer, and Tim relays a story from his youth where he tried to nurse a baby bird back to health, but accidentally mauled it instead. Wilson commends Tim for his efforts and gives him a very good treatment for the flu: boiled bees. What, you never had them? So, Tim brings Jill a cup of bee tea and they have a rational discussion, Tim swears he will try to be more nurturing to his wife when she's ill...and then the phone rings. It's Benny, calling to gloat about the Super Bowl party at Big Mike's. It was a grand affair. Oh well, there's always next year, Tim. In the passing weeks, Jill began to feel much better. The same cannot be said for Tim, because, well, you know what they say about the flu: it's the gift that keeps on giving.

Mostly owing to a sickness in the family? Now, as far as Jill's claims about Tim being inattentive, I will say that he tried...and she didn't have to act like a big baby. Sure, the guys bursting in on her was very inappropriate, but when they were all downstairs in the living room, she could've tried to make the best of it, taking into consideration how much the big game means to Tim and that he'd planned to have a big party. This episode does have its funny moments, such as Jill under the covers and Benny tries to offer her a sausage, though it's really just another round of Jill picking on Tim because he doesn't live 100% up to her idea of the perfect husband and he's made to look like the bad guy. Still, Super Bowl Fever is a decent enough episode. Not one of the series' finest, but fun in its own way.
