Today, Tool Time is on location in Al's apartment. He, Tim and Heidi are showing how to take advantage of small spaces, such as converting Al's closet into a fold-out "guest room." Naturally, this goes haywire as Al sits on the bed and presses the wrong button, thus sending him through the wall and right into his neighbor's bed. Hey, it's one-note Milton! He doesn't go in for that sort of thing. At home, Jill is trying very hard to get work done, but her obnoxious sons continuously stymie her efforts. Up to and including Randy borrowing her thesaurus without asking, and Brad the slob spilling soda all over her paper. At this point she's desperate, so she breaks down and asks Tim to build her...an office. Asking Tim Taylor to build something is like giving a child a cookie jar and saying "dig in". He immediately gets to work clearing the attic, which he will be converting to the office, while Jill heads off to her therapy session. It's apparently mandatory for her to get her masters, and the therapist she sees certainly has his work cut out for him. At first, Jill doesn't have much to say, but then she starts in about school and her home life, and most of all, about her husband.

When she gets home, she tells Tim what he half expected: she's changed her mind about the office. They bicker like children, and I have to say, it was very callous of Jill to change her mind like that without giving Tim a heads up, especially after he bought all those supplies and planned out the office. Sure, it was her decision, but come on! Jill's throwing a dinner party that night because, why the hell not? It becomes very awkward for guests Doug and Patty because Tim and Jill won't stop arguing. The result is Tim sleeps on the couch all night. Next day, he tells Wilson about the whole office situation, and he helps him see that when he builds something, it's an act of self reflection and discovery. In other words, Tim felt like he was building the office more for himself than Jill. So they get to talking, this time like adults, feelings are made known, and Jill says that maybe somewhere down the line, Tim could build her the office of his dreams. Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, Tim was sporting whiskers throughout the episode, trying to grow a beard. Jill is constantly after him to shave, and by the end, he does...except not his beard. That whole moment at the end is to die for. Tim coming downstairs with a shaved head, Jill freaks out, then he reveals it to be a bald cap. That was classic!

Would it have been so bad if Tim built the office? If you recall, the room he made for Randy in the basement in Season 6 turned out alright. There were some serious flaws in the writing. Once again, Jill comes off as the world's biggest bitch for the way she treats Tim and pushes him around after he was trying to do something nice for her. If Tim wants to build something for Jill, how about a crate so he can ship her off to Siberia? Once again, Jill is allowed to change her mind about the office, seeing as how it was for her, but she should've thought it through before asking Tim to build it in the first place! This one is just so frustrating to watch. It's just NOT funny, save for the ending gag. I don't really recommend Room at the Top, unless you want to see Tim with a beard, and especially for that scene at the end, that alone was worth sitting through this trite.
