This Bonanza story starts with Suzanne Pleshette with her little daughter Jodie Foster in one of her earliest roles coming to visit her the Ponderosa and old family friend Ben Cartwright. It's her intention to rendezvous with her husband. What she doesn't tell them is that her husband is Jon Cypher who is a fugitive.
Depending on your point of view Cypher is either an outlaw on the level with the James gang or an honored Confederate hero. The latter is the point of view of Hurd Hatfield who is a major attached to the Provost Marshal's office and he's got a Javert like view of his job.
This reworking of the plot of Les Miserables from the woman's point of view is well acted by the ensemble and one of the better later Bonanza episodes.
