I really like this movie, made by the famous french director Jacques Deray, who was not at his best with LE MARGINAL and LE SOLITAIRE, both starring Jean Paul Belmondo. Here, Yves Montand is poignant in his character, even if we can argue that movie is a bit hard to tell, a bit complex to get. It reminds me ENGRENAGES TV show. Lindon gives also an interesting performance.
Just one thing I would like to add, concerning the comment made by the other user, the very nice guy Du Monteil. DST - now named DCRI - was in charge, as the Renseignements Généraux, of internal terrorist affairs, a sort of equivalent of British MI5, Scotland Yard Special Branch - that doesn't exist anymore, and FBI, but certainly not CIA,, as Dumonteil told. Because FBI is also in charge of INSIDE THE US terrorist affairs, and not only crime and other gangster files. CIA, on the contrary, is in charge of OUT US TERRITORY affairs, the equivalent of french DGSE, British MI6 or Israeli MOSSAD.
