Low Budget Christian Financed Race Film, Not Nick's Last Either
verbusen19 August 2022
I was looking for Nick Adams films after I realized how much I liked him in Hell Is For Heroes and how he was in many TV shows in the 60s. His last year of life was very busy with films and TV wise which probably leads to my thoughts of his role in this Christian church financed, distributed by Paramount, very low budget film, he was getting a paycheck. Its worth checking out for Nick Adams completists and posted on free social media but otherwise a very forgettable film, especially if you want to remember Nick Adams. Mission Mars had a storyline and Nick and other well known actors which I enjoyed much more and, according to IMdb, released after this film. A Spanish language western "Los asesinos" is also listed as his officially last made film but I can't find it on the internet. 3 of 10. Watch Mission Mars instead or Hell Is For Heroes to remember Nick.

Drag strip really drags.

Warning: Spoilers
A forgettable drive-in cheapie that marks one of Nick Adams' last films, this looks like the budget matched the cost of the sale of metal from a junk yard full of crashed vehicles. Dealing with the world of stock car racing, it's a trashy view of what some people consider a trashy sport. Cliched dialog, trite situations and genuinely poor performances, there's really nothing to recommend here with the editing at fault for making the film feel really choppy.

Obviously no one went into this film thinking that it was art, and it's the type of film that drive-in audiences could easily be distracted from watching through other activities. Jeannine Riley, Norman Alden, Vaughan Taylor and AL Ruscio all walk through their performances, although Riley attempts some enthusiasm. Hard to believe that a major studio like Paramount would bank roll this for release, although the production company was allegedly a Christian based organization which makes the theme all the odder considering some of the material.
