Cinderella (1947)

Surprisingly decent

Warning: Spoilers
This 1947 film of the classic fairy tale story was made in Russia and is a surprisingly good and faithful version of the tale. It goes through the motions in a familiar way but works thanks to the splendid efforts of the cast, who really seem to be putting their all into their characters. However, the real winners here are the set designers and the costume makers. This looks like a 'proper' fairy tale that's come to life; it's lavish and colourful, beautifully mounted with scenery and colours to die for. Certainly one of the strongest Russian-made fairy tales I've seen put on film.
