Cliff hanger?
Miles-109 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The ending is open. Is there more in store for the remaining characters? Al-Masih is outed as someone with a pedestrian human identity, but does that matter? This episode leaves us with a lot of questions. One thing is for certain: Rev. Felix Iguera has learned nothing. He was motivated by his emotions of despair at the beginning, then he was motivated by his feelings of hope, and now he is back to despair. He has cycled through his feelings but hasn't changed. Eva Geller has changed, but she is devastated by it. Everyone has been impacted by al-Masih, who is either a transcendental figure or else the greatest magician/conman who ever lived. This question isn't answered. Not yet?

Truly Magnetic

I could not wait to see the next episode. The actor who played Messiah is excellent. I wish for a season 2,3,4,5,6 and so on. We know this is entertainment only. There have been many Series with Islamic sentiment and that did not matter and they did not get cancelled. Netflix should continue to create the series Messiah.

I love the actors, but I do notice that the pastor is not introduced in the characters section online for different entities. Not sure if they are being prejudiced. It's just my opinion.

I am a fan. I would like there to be more episodes.

I loved the Al- Masaih character. He is quite unique. He is a beautiful person.

Bottom Line
nataraj20 January 2020
Final episode, time to draw the bottom line.

On the plus side:

I enjoyed the show - a lot. It is refreshingly realistic (except the few times when it isn't - see: Miracles), the main characters believable if not always likeable. We see and understand their problems - too bad there is no redemption for them. At least not in real life, nor through supernatural means.

I think Rebecca, Felix's daughter, she's best off: escaped Dilley, met the Messiah, went to Washington, D.C. and immediately had a moment on TV. Not bad for a single week.

But back to the bottom line: Diversity.

This show is very international. We hear English, Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, and a bit of French during the Algeria scene.

And we see the Messiah situation from the point of view of American Christians, the CIA, the press, the US government, the Shin Bet in Israel, spiritual leaders in the West Bank and, of course, the Messiah. We also learn the reaction to the Messiah problem from the different sides. On one side: a bomb. On the other side: a bomb. Interesting. US and Palestinian decision makers seem to think remarkably alike, in this show.

We get to see the personal situation of the main characters, and - interestingly enough, not one of them is happy. Or at least content. Maybe the FBI agent, he seems cool with a short assignment and then going back to his lover. All others - the job sucks, their partners are a pain. And the booze is never far away. Even the high powered women in the CIA ... in the end, it is the men who wield the power.

Nice line here. Cameron Collier: "your job is to gather information. Our job is to do stuff with this information". That pretty much sums it up. Eva is pissed, of course. But that actually is the mission of the CIA.

on the minus side

Miracles: Seems that there are so many preachers of all faiths. Words are not enough to get attention. So, a miracle is needed once in a while. One too many, for my taste. The writers should have stopped with the water walk.

Felix: he's just the dimmest candle for miles around. And stays the way he was, from beginning to end. What a miserable life his wife and his daughter must have had.

Still - all in all - a very good show

I couldn't stop watching it! And for those saying that a fundamentalist would hate is wrong! I am a Christian conservative, so in my view from reading a lot of reviews it hits a 👍 with pretty much everyone, even an atheist like it. I really hope there is a 2nd season!

about people
Kirpianuscus31 January 2020
It is an episode about death. And a serie about people to the line to define Al Maih as a pretext. It gives a splendid open end and good opportunity to remind the Abuladze field of poppy field. A serie about vulnerability, hopes, mistakes, political solutions of people. The delicacy of characters remains the lead virtue of this special season.

This bloke is so damn cool. Christ, imagine being able to take things in your stride like that and not let things get to you. Excellent face, definitely chose the right bloke for the part.

wellscripted and wellplayed
afshanbox1 April 2022
The story draws from islamic end of times mythology mixed with biblical ref and it is quitw well put in todays socio- political context. Though I was initially sceptic about if it was worth it I hanged on and watched all episodes in a row...hope for a season 2 to see if the messiah (charismarically played by Mehdi D (mehdi btw means "saviour":) is a fraud , the "real" thing or most likely something in between.....(!)

Intriguing but biblically incorrect.

Warning: Spoilers
I wonder how many people will think this story is a possibility in real life. If a Christian believes this, then they are not studying their bible. The Bible tells us how Jesus will return. He will come in the clouds and every eye will see him. He will not be walking the earth performing miracles. Remember, Satan is capable of performing miracles so we should not put our faith in them.
