In episode 3, Travis' narration and Paul Walter Hauser's trepidations and hardened luck were reminiscent of a noir antihero, reminiscent of Orson Welles. The creators took a wild turn to surprise viewers with a different version of events. The writers are praised for nailing every aspect of the noir genre, with the dialogue, camera angles, and background score being perfectly executed. However, the progression of the investigation into Edgar's murder was not as inspiring, and the characterization of the story's direction was perhaps too familiar. This was a issue with the previous season, and The Afterparty is making the same mistake with this one. In Episode 3, Travis portrays the wedding night events in a noir film style, featuring top hats, dutch camera angles, black and white tapestry, and brooding music. Zoe and Aniq discuss the cufflink found in Edgar's pocket, which could mean Grace. Travis "Gladrise" explains his statement was taken out of context and hands Aniq and Danner a dossier of files and research that proves Edgar was a fraud. Grace invited Travis to investigate these accusations and allegations, and when he received the card, he searched online for Edgar. He found nothing and began searching for major pop culture conspiracies to fuse the idea with Edgar's financial background. Travis believes Edgar was involved in a cryptocurrency scam, as his insecurities and anger played a role. The five biggest investors in Edgar's Bucephallus are his own shell companies, using his own money to artificially inflate the value of his coin. Travis bids farewell to his mother, who resembles Howard's mom and Joey's agent Estelle. He attends the wedding and meets Grace, who recognizes the cufflink as a key from an antique typewriter. Travis romanticizes the situation, imagining Grace signaling fear and Hannah flirting with him. He enters Edgar's office and confronts Sebastian. Travis construes the names on Edgar's desk as his aliases, arguing that Edgar was preparing to run into oblivion by faking his own death. He believes Grace would be the scapegoat for Edgar after their marriage, possibly due to spousal rights on joint assets. Travis warns Grace about the impending conspiracy and joins forces with Hannah, who also wants to stop the wedding. Zoe and Grace discover the missing "g" key on Hannah's typewriter and hide behind bushes. They find poisonous flowers and discuss Travis's wedding to Hannah. Travis went after Edgar, who stopped his first dance with Grace. He was hit on the head by the killer. Travis regains consciousness and confronts Edgar with the truth, but Grace takes him to bed. Travis doesn't believe his "show" and falls asleep outside his room. Danner and Aniq explain their stance of reason to Travis, suggesting his theory about Edgar pumping his own coin may have substance. Zoe storms inside the room, claiming to have found the murder weapon, The Devil's Trumpet, which is poisonous if consumed in large quantities and hallucinatory if ingested in smaller ones.
