This piece of work seems at times to be dramatic, just for dramatic sake. However, it is skillfully crafted and utilizes various techniques to tell its tale. The filmmakers use of animation enhances the picture's visual range, without corrupting it's integrity. If el Hijo De oro were 3 to 5 minutes shorter I feel it might have been more powerful, memorable, and poignant. Despite a few places where events are unnecessarily drawn out, the film does deliver an interesting story told with a strong understanding of cinematic technique. This movie is a testament and demonstration of how a film's shot compositions and editing style can carry it's story. I recommend the picture on that basis, but warn festival goers that this twenty minute film may, at times, feel a bit longer than that.
