When I looked into my old reviews of the MLP FIM two part finale. I was frankly too nitpicky on it. Not letting out the positives, and saying negative about everything. So I rewatched the first part for this review, expecting me to find it okay or good. Just like most people, who find it an awesome action packed finale. Rewatching it. Sorry I find the first part of the finale bad. Not the worst finale or episode, ButI still find it bad. Well it's mostly from Discord's actions. Unlike other reviews I wanted to try point form. Listing out the positives, the negatives, and in the middle. So buckle up. Let's re-review the first part of this finale.
Positives
- The 2 villains; Chrysalis and Tirek are great villains in part 1. Chrysalis being the leader, and planner of the villain team up. I found a very nice idea. Considering the fact that she was Queen of the Changelings.
- The Mane 6, Spike, and most of the heroes. Are in character, and good.
- The action scenes are really well animated, and done. In my last review I complained about them. But the fight scenes like Tirek vs the Pillars, Starlight vs Chrysalis, and the Mane 6 vs the twist child villain are good.
- And...and. I actually tried to like the first part of this finale. But I just can't.
Negatives
- The reveal that Discord was Grogar. Tried to use 4 villains to boost Twilight Sparkle's confidence. (Like King Sombra in the season 9 premiere, and Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow.) Which then backfired in the latter three. Responsible for their evil actions in season 9. Yeah I still hate this plot twist.
- This reveal made him betray the trust out of everypony. Including his best friend Fluttershy. By planning villains to attack Twilight, and her friends.
- So I'm going to tell the rest of why Disord was just written awfully. He tried to excuse his actions. Is made so dumb, not suspecting that 3 villains are going to betray him. Also this twist was planned from the start. Seriously did the writers not think that this would anger people. Especially him being Grogar.
- Cozy Glow. I actually want to talk more about her in part 2. But she is the worst mlp villain. One time she absorbed Discord's magic, which turns her into a design that I would suspect more as a bad deviantart OC.
- The Princesses, Celestia and Luna are useless when it comes to defeating Cozy. They first use your guards. Which fails miserably.
Middle
- I know I ragged on from how dumb the ponies were in my previous review. But ponies have always been dumb in previous episodes. The episode "Summer Sun Setback" has shown the ponies already being turned against each other, by the villains. So I'm more apathetic towards it.
- Grogar not being real. I actually don't care that Grogar is not the main villain (him being Discord, that's the real problem).
- Grogar's bell's power is towards stealing magic. Meh.
So that was my re-review towards the first part of this finale. Yeah I changed my opinion on some parts. Like on the pony races easily separating from rumours, and Grogar's bell. So how would I rate the first part of the finale. That Grogar twist was still there. But most of the characters are fine, and the action scenes are good. But since this was from Discord betraying, and putting everyone in danger. In the name of, "Good intentions," which he constantly uses as an excuse. I will rate it a 4/10.
Edit May 9, 2022: Talk more about in part 2. I'm glad this and part 2 are my first point form reviews. But the reason is; these episodes are controversial. Also I now hate Discord and I'm tired of the people who will worship him even when he acts like a villain when he is supposed to be reformed.
Edit Dec 8, 2022: Thinking it over, my opinion on the first part and second part of the finale are more negative, hating them and are in my top 10 worst MLP episodes. Maybe they do have a few positives, go to my second part of the MLP finale review and look at the edit below.
