doesn't have the magic of the original, but still likable
The big problem with this series is that Rachel Blanchard will forever be in the shadow of Alicia Silverstone. Deservedly or undeservedly. It doesn't matter. We've seen what could be done. And even though Alicia's whole performance was more of a fluke (well, she's just like Sarah Michelle Gellar, not really that wonderful in anything but her main claim to fame), we the fans are just clamoring for more of that Silverstone magic and nothing else will do.

Rachel, compared to the original, doesn't inhabit the Cher zone the way Alicia did. She goes through the lines, there's no Silverstone magic, she's pretty enough, but...

The rest of the main cast, Stacey Dash and Elisha Donovan, also disappoint, the latter especially. Looks old enough to be one of the teachers, rather.

Everything is just lackluster by comparison.

After everything I just said, I still consider the show to be way better than the vast majority of stuff out there. Has winsome appeal. If it's rainbow hadn't been stolen by the forerunner, I would have been unreservedly positive. Back then, everybody there just needed a class in updating their cute appeal. Maybe a marathon CLUELESS session?

A tough act to follow.

This one needed a makeover. Just a little touch here, a little touch there...
