An okay, slightly slow movie

Warning: Spoilers
Emma, a fourteen year old girl, wants to hang out with the older crowd. One of her brother's friends invites her to a party, and she and her friends get quite drunk there. The "friend" rapes her while she's passed out. People talk about her, saying that since she gets drunk & flirts with boys, and probably since she was in the room alone with the boy for so long, that she's a whore. Her brother gets in a fight trying to defend her, although he doesn't know what really happened; he just doesn't like people saying things about his sister, and doesn't even want her hanging out with the his friends to begin with- partly because they're HIS friends, partly because they're older. The movie was a bit slow, with not much happening. It's set during the summer, so mostly the kids just party, sleep, and eat. Not a lot of action. Parts were very far-fetched, like the parents not caring what their kids did, & the ending where the brother magically figures out that his sister was raped & by whom. But it was still an okay, entertaining movie. The main themes are probably the brother-sister relationship, and how much young people drink & the dangers of drinking. "Hip Hip Hora" addresses the rape aspect & the way many people labels girls as whores for little reason in a much better way. Teenagers will probably be most interested in this movie.

A decent good movie overall.

Everything about this film is pretty good for a Swedish movie. But what is the meaning about the ending? I didn't understand what's going on with it?

This movie freaking suck. It was the most boring piece of trash i have ever seen from a sweden movie. It was so slow and boring and the acting and the story was so bad i have watched it for 10 minute until i turn it off and throw this stupid thing to the garbage. Do not watch this movie i have more fun looking it a low budget action or horror film movie like halloween and duellen then watching fourteen sucks at least those movie has better plot and characters and fun than this fourteen sucks it is not worth your time and i hope i never have to see this movie again. And i hope this guy who made this movie should get fired for this.

Emma is fourteen and a very cool girl...

SVTs Filmkrönikan titled it the best teenage movie since "Fucking Åmål" (1998). I would tend to agree. Fjorton suger (translates into fourteen sucks) was filmed in Helsingborg, Sweden and two out of the four directors also produced the music video to this summers mega hit "Hej Hej Monica". The team really seems to have enjoyed making this movie.

Emma is 16 years old and lives in Helsingborg, Sweden. Actually she will be 16 in October. Next year.

In "Fjorton Suger" we get straight in to the life of the fourteen year old teenager Emma (played by very cute Elin Ahlberg). She is on her way to a party, invited by one of her older brothers friends. Emma gets completely wasted at the party and one of her brothers friends rapes her after she has passed out on a bed upstairs in the house. After this terrible event nothing is the same. Her family doesn't know what has happened but Emma's world is completely shattered.

But the the rape is only one side of the story. The story is about the everyday difficulties of being a teenager, the relationship to friends in the same age who suddenly seem childish and immature, about the urge to hang out with her brothers older friends instead, the relationship to her brother and parents and about falling in love. The story is told in a very mature way showing that it is possible to make an excellent movie with a very limited budget. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Excellent film about a girl, her family and her friends!

Warning: Spoilers
A sweet film with a serious and heartwarming story.

Teenagers living in a well-off neighbourhood spend their summer at parties drinking alcohol and having a good time, or so they like to think. But then one night at a party Emma, the leading character, has a terrible experience. She's only 14 years old and she starts to blame herself for what has happened. It doesn't help that neither she nor her brother are able to communicate with their parents.

The location is set in beautiful Helsingborg of southern Sweden where I grew up myself although it has changed a lot since then, but I recognize the attitudes among teens and the actors have got our special dialect right. That's not strange since most of them are local actors and amateurs, but that is hard to tell in this excellent film.

This film is almost as good as "Show me love" (Fucking Amal) by Lukas Moodyson. Compared to that film it's less cheeky and humorous but more serious and low-key in its approach to contemporary teenage drama. If you like "Show me love" you need to see this one as well.
