I am very disappointed in Joy Ride. The movie utterly lacks subtlety and aside from a maneki neko with an automatic tongue and the "weird" introverted cousin, the humor is obnoxious. It reminds me a lot of so-called guy movies from the 1990s or early 2000s, except all of the adolescent sex obsession is coming out of a woman's mouth. Lolo's constant obsessive banter is not body positive or sex positive, it makes her seem mentally ill, like she needs to attend a meeting of Sex Addicts Anonymous. If a man were talking this way in a movie, we'd assume he was 18 years old and straight out of momma's house, or else an incel who was overcompensating for being a 30 year old virgin. But Lolo is just lost in the parking lot of life.
About halfway through the movie, our white-acting lead actress who is basic to the point of being boring, tells an attractive man he's insightful for saying something obvious and pseudo-intellectual. It just never stops, there's really no reprieve from the stupidity other than Deadeye the K-Pop obsessed nerd who only has friends on the Internet.
Please do not pay for this movie, wait for it to come on a streaming service.
