Great Characters!

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this show, with all of the great character development as well as its incredible co-workers like Baudemont and Dejax - quirky but good at their jobs. Abdelhafid Metalsi's Kader Cherif made me laugh, and it was fun seeing what shows that he would reference as well as what antics he would get up to - the opening scene was priceless and great foreshadowing of his character and the show. I enjoyed trying to figure out the plot twists.

It was also great that lesser characters would re-appear, like Pascal, Eric, Pierre, and the infamous Christelle. I was thrilled that we could finally put a face with Mama Cherif's voice on the phone after so many seasons. Tassadit Mandi was definitely a fun addition. I know that when someone is replaced on a show that fans are hard on the newcomer, but I really liked Aurore Erguy's Roxane and her family.

Of course, the back and forth of bad timing between Kader and Adeline kept us waiting. But the stars align, and they are finally together and incredibly happy in the 4th season, and she is all of the sudden leaving the country, and without him? What I didn't like was that the reason that they gave for Adeline's departure...leaving the force I get, but there is no discussion of her possibly doing something else nearby and remaining with Kader? Then later when her father is trying to destroy the precinct and they are trying to get her help, we're told that she has totally cut off any communication with everyone - why would that be necessary? Maybe being in touch with Kader would be painful (granted, it was her decision to move all the way to Quebec), but not keeping in touch with her other friends? I think that that is just unbelievable and uncharacteristic of Adeline. Granted, Carole Bianic (Adeline) leaving the show due to having a baby may have unexpectedly changed the storyline, and they had to scramble to come up with an explanation, but still.... And having Sarah recommend her father's love of his life for the job in Canada is also bizarre, especially since she had tried to get them together. I did laugh that Sarah went off to Boston and came back a whole new actress.

Then the HUGE jump-the-shark moment with the whole Jennifer storyline! That's what lost 2 stars in my review. I liked the Eddy character, but his mother is another story. I could go on and on about how unsuitable she is for Kader's love interest as well as an unlikable character, but I will spare you. Cherif said that she is the opposite of the other women who had been in his life. Well, maybe that's because they are basically good, law-abiding people while she is an unpleasant, egocentric person who has been in and out of jail. A cop with a serial criminal, not to mention an unlikable character just doesn't fly. And the ridiculous ending scene? Sigh.... I would say that I should have stopped watching after Adeline left, but then I would have missed Roxane, Dejax's Melanie, and Eddy.
