AS THE GODS WILL is a typically demented offering from Japanese director Takashi Miike, and one of his better titles. It's very much the predecessor of SQUID GAME and, in particular, ALICE IN BORDERLAND, although more fantasy-orientated than either of those TV shows. This film is packed full of CGI effects which are larger than life and not meant to be realistic, so I didn't have a problem with them. Miike throws you in from the get go and then delivers a series of deadly, gory games with his own trademark quirky humour and surreal touches. It loses its way with a slightly dull game at the climax, but mostly offers inventive, wacky fun.
