Devil in Ohio (2022)
6/10
More suspense with a long breath than horror

Warning: Spoilers
If you don't expect a horror film, this is quite alright in my opinion. It was entertaining to watch and I was interested in how the story would unfold. I also liked that Mae wasn't depicted as clearly good or bad - she has experienced deep trauma so none of her actions were not understandable.

Still some of the other characters' actions are weird. Which highly trained professional psychologist would let a fresh trauma survivor live at their place? What mother would start to completely ignore her family? The children are also a bit flat and kind of unreasonably jumping to conclusions. The older child suddenly starts to date her female "best friend" so there's also a queer storyline. The thing is though that it doesn't really make sense and feels a bit like queer baiting to me. The middle child is just weirdly angry and she seems that she could be more reasonable but no - director or writer decided that she is just super unreasonable all the time as if she didn't have one yota of empathy. Her gay best friend (again... all the clichés with this guy... lazy writing/lazy directing) is also very unreasonable, flat, annoying and is just jealous and unjust.

So... all in all the depiction of the characters seems very lazy to me as if someone just put some ingredients together but completely forgot to add salt/spices - to make something more interesting out of it.

The music/folk songs were really great.

Devil in Ohio seems a little bit like one of the usual Netflix productions which are a bit "meh" but thankfully it is better than them. Storyline was alright and it was entertaining to watch.
