Ruby's Choice highlights many of the challenges and frustrations faced when caring for a family member with dementia. Watching the events unfold through the eyes of one of the younger members of the extended family gives insight into how children and teenagers may be impacted. The steep learning curve required and frustrations experienced dealing with support agencies is well portrayed. One criticism is that while things fell in to place for this family, it is not always the case in real life. Ruby's portrayal of someone with dementia was believable and those who have a family member with dementia will discover many familiar moments.
