Effective adventure crime flick
20 March 2022
This is daring for Claude Sautet to have made this movie, far from he usually did before and from he will do in the future. There is nothing of his trademark here, except his talent. But the most inteersting for me is the meeting, even a bit too superficial to my taste, between Lino Ventura and Leo Gordon: the two biggest heavies of the French and American film industries. As were Michel Constantin and Charles Bronson in DE LA PART DES COPAINS or LA CITE DE LA VIOLENCE. Or Andre Pousse and Henry Silva in L'INSOLENT, in 1973. Except that Bronson and Constantin will later become friends. The scenes with both Ventura and Gordon are too brief, unfortunately.
