This is a very poor SAW sequel and in fact one of the worst in the entire series. It's an attempted reboot that just feels bloated and tired throughout, moving at a sluggish pace, with the detective story that tries to join the set-pieces together feeling less realistic than ever. In fact, the director feels like a first-timer, although he's been working on the franchise since the second instalment, and it's so stilted when it comes to the script-reading that it looks and feels like an indie. Chris Rock is totally out of place and uncomfortable here and Samuel L. Jackson just does his usual B-movie acting. As for the traps, they're very gruesome but also monotonously repetitive; the whole thing is entirely needless.
