But what happened to Season 5? A rambling multi-plot lines of incredibility.

Jimmy Perez looks half cut most of the time and slurs his dialogue.

Sandy has to be the most stunned copper in police procedurals. He can't walk and chew gum at the same time and leaves a prisoner alone with a pen.

Olivia should have been locked up for everyone's safety. And holy pile of murders? On one small island?

Along with the human trafficking story line there are romantic sub-plots one of which is Jimmy's which I projected would go nowhere due to Jimmy not spotting her husband was a suspect.

Sloppy writing, poor acting and an overall feeling of being taken for a ride based on the success of the first four.

I started watching Season 6 (2 episodes) which is being dished out over a series of weeks on Britbox (annoying) and it seems to have picked up a little more intrigue and simplicity. Which is good. I may adjust my rating to reflect this improvement.

Update - finished Season 6. I found myself extremely irritated at the nodding performances of all the police. Particularly Perez, who nods all the time and looks like he could use a decent shower. Distracting. Sidekick Tosh does the same. All nods. Plot was riddled with murders yet again. I find the guy who plays Duncan the best of the bunch of them. And the father with Alzheimer's though Perez seems stunned as to how to deal with it. Didn't buy the plot lines., dropping the rating a point.

6/10.

Season 8 was a complete bust, A rambling soap opera-ish 6 episodes and Ruth the hotshot DI from the Big Smoke is so irritating as to make one scream. She breaches every police protocol in the book and barrels around with a fistful of personal grievances, grimaces and snarls at the team and lies steadily. Oh and sleeps with one of the suspects to boot.

Appalling suspend disbelief script and performances. We are surely not meant to dislike a major character so intensely?

The script for Tosh isn't much better, she mainly stands around looking baffled and speaks to suspects all by herself with no witness and no notes. And her sergeant runs amok with Ruth (not his boss) behind her back.

The descent to drivel is massive. And fingers crossed no Season 9.
