Contrary to what the message at the beginning says; this is a true story. The main change was that twelve policemen were accused instead of three.
Three underpaid policemen in North Marseilles are pushed by their boss to make a big arrest. What are their benefits, perhaps one or two hundred more Euros a month and being recognized.
A small dealer also snitch for one of the cops, heard about a big hit but wants five kilos of drug to provide the info.
The police chief denies them the use of what they have as evidence because it will require a lot of paperwork and he does not want to complicate his life. The solution, steal from buyers on the street.
Things get complicated when one of the dealers complains about losing customers and things get ugly.
They persist with the plan; get the info and a very big raid occurs (a 20 minutes plus scenes like you never seen before, Hitchcock and Spielberg take notes ) capturing a big shipment, money and the main bosses.
Two months after celebrating the big victory, the tree policemen are accused of drug trafficking and incarcerated. Their own boss negates any knowledge of their procedures; basically gets the glory but wash his hands.
As bad as the dealers are, these are not the cliched characters;. Most are people trying to make meets end or just trying to survive. It shows the misery and desperation on certain communities; where people resort to crime to survive, within a system that does nothing to make things better but punish everyone who does not follow the rules.
Even the police does not make 2K a month are forced to use illegal resources to accomplish their tasks and provide success to their bosses
I wont disclose the rest; but as good as the first part of the movie is,the last act is a terrible statement of how the system abuse its own pawns. On how politicians and bureaucrats are worse than the criminals they are sending their troops to fight.
In brief; just a movie THAT MUST BE SEEN.
