"Calatorie la oras" or "A Trip to the City" is a Romanian 20-minute short film from almost 15 years ago and it came out when Romanian cinema had a bit of a resurgence that went on to a lesser extent until today. The writer and director here is Corneliu Porumboiu, but unfortunately I cannot agree with the awards bodies that honored him for his work here. I think the reason why I did not like this one as much is a combination of forgettable acting and a story that simply isn't good enough to have audiences glued to the screen, not even for 20 minute movie. Or maybe especially for a 20-minute movie as making a good short film is frequently at least as big a challenger as making a good feature film. You need focus right from the beginning to and flaws are even more difficult to excuse. I personally give it a thumbs down. Not recommended.
