This is a comedy sci-fi romp, where the 'wrong guys' inadvertently get saddled with technology required to save humanity.
A lot of the humour is based around American stereotypes and the flaws of the main characters who are just short of a Wizard of Oz line up. There is a coward, an idiot, a cynic and a jock.
With this line-up you can expect a very silly, moronic film. Well it is, but the writing and direction takes it to a place a lot more fun than normal. Yes people do get thumped in the testicles and wedgied - but there is also a fair amount of thought and talent in this. I especially like the idea of the "super trooper" who basically wastes his entire life training to use the armour.
The CGI is a little bit lacking but I forgive that for the budget. I don't think this was ever intended to be a piece of movie making history, but it is entreating, the plot does kind of work and the characters are unforgivingly true to themselves.
Maybe not a Friday night film but this is definitely good for a chuckle.
