And since it is the job of the ever-vigilant reviewer to spot problems here we go with my notes, humbly submitted:
* on paper this must have looked great, a nice twist on the old "prince charming" tale
* great cast! Stiles is always good; as is Richardson; Ben Miller steals every scene not otherwise nailed down
* and that is where the good news runs out. The script mysteriously cuts short the portion of the story that is the most fun (the prince incognito at school) and fast forwards into the most tedious scenes at the castle. There are editing and pacing problems galore. Almost a clinic here on how NOT to cut a movie and then the elephant in the room, the chemistry between the two young lovebirds ... does not exist.
I cannot easily think of a movie with worse chemistry between the stars. When they kiss, sensitive viewers may actually grimace, that is how bad the pairing is For some mysterious reason a DTV sequel was made? Only shows that the public and the critics don't always see eye to eye
