Muppets Treasure Island (1996 Video Game)
10/10
The best Muppet Treasure Island PC game ever. Sorry to hear about Tim Curry's stroke.
10 October 2015
When this movie came out in 1996, people went to see it. What most people don't know is in that same year the 1996 PC game version came out as a click and point adventure game.

As you know, Tim Curry who played as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island for the PC had a stroke back in 2012 that crippled him to a wheelchair, which I was very sad and upset about since he's in Muppet Treasure Island CD-rom game in 1996 before the stroke happened to him. I liked him since he was more involved in this game than in the movie.

In this game you are Jim Hawkins played by a first person view. You have 3 discs you are required to change each time you get to the end of disc 1 and disc 2. Similar to "Final Fantasy 7", "Final Fantasy 8", "Final Fantasy 9" where you also have to change discs on the Playstation 1 and PC games. I like that you can choose which Chapter you can play in, I'd wish Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and even 13 had this feature since those are long RPG games.

Anyways you play through 4 main levels of the game. First at the Benbow Inn. You meet Gonzo, and Rizzo and Billy Bones. You also see Blind Pew. Then you hear Billy Bones scream "THE BLACK SPOT! NO! Stevenson the Parrot guides you in the game. You have to find the treasure map. You also find notes in bottles with Captain Flint speaking to you. Also you have to find 4 compass stones that are important. The death scene of Billy Bones is unknown. Although in the movie he died of a stroke. After you find the treasure map. Part of the Benbow Inn gets blown up and your face is covered by molasses. Rizzo the rat sings "99 pieces of cheese on the wall"

Then you arrive at the town of Bristol where you meet Jeeves the servant dog who tells you to buy new clothes at the clothes shop. You have to fight pirates by launching pies at them. Also you can meet Dr. Teeth and play songs on the piano like "Drunken Sailor" and "Head and Shoulders" and many more songs, you also get to meet Fozzie the bear as the Squire Trelawney, Dr. Livsey and Beaker, Kermit the Frog as Smollett Sam Eagle as Mr. Samuel Arrow.

You also get to sail on the Hispaniola. There are pirates like Angel Marie, Polly Lobster and you meet Long John Silver the friendly pirate. You can play games like Mahjong, build a ship model, fire the cannon, weigh the anchor, make apple pies. Load cargo in life boats. You also get to look at the stars and make patterns. Then you can listen to Long John Silver plan a mutiny with his pirates. Then you steer the helm to Treasure Island. But Long John kidnaps you and rows you to the Island.

Then can meet the islanders including Miss Piggy as Benjamina Gunn. You can see 2 skeleton pirates that are hanged. You can also solve the puzzle to unlock the cave. When Long John and the pirates discover the treasure is gone. You can find another secret entrance to Benjamina Gunns room. Then you find the piles of treasure and it's taken to the ship. But you have to fight pirates by throwing coconuts at their heads before they surrender. You can watch 9 clips of the movie from "Muppet Treasure Island" although the part where Miss Piggy says to her servants "Oh knock it off" has been cut out.

Anyways it's a great game, the jokes by Fozzie are funny, also Beaker getting shot out of a cannon is very funny, it's fun to click on objects and watch animations happen or Muppets having conversations.

It's a shame Activision has not reissued or made the PC download available. Also I cannot find the soundtrack to the PC game since the music by Nathan Wang is beautiful, the songs should be available to buy on MP3 players. I hope that people can one day be able to play this game that I've played as a teenager in the 1990s. I hope Tim Curry recovers soon, I'm sorry that he's now in a wheelchair since he made a difference in my life in this PC game.
