Double trouble
31 August 2014
Two American girls on vacation at the Adriatic Sea go by boat to a mysterious island, accompanied by three local friends, although an old man warned them it's a dark place with a bloody history. First person they meet on the island is a serial killer, chopping up bodies for a 'killer mermaid', as the title of the international distribution already told us. The 5 young people now have to get away from the island, but the killer is stalking them on the land - and the mermaid is lurking in the waters...

The film boasts with a perfect location. Normally the movie script is written first, then a suitable location is chosen. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the other way around here: someone saw this location and then came up with a story that fits, maybe? Anyway, the movie itself is a typical horror flick with screaming young people in scary dark places. Why men are so enchanted with the mermaid is poorly explained, the audience don't see the magic work here. The location, the unusual choice of a mermaid as the monster and some good performances (Franco Nero, Dragan Micanovic) lift this movie above average and make it worthwhile watching, still.
