An excellent example of how to do horror with passion instead of a budget
2 October 2012
I had a chance to see the film last weekend in Sacramento, they screened it for fans at Days of Terror. I love a good unsolved mystery so I am familiar with the Black Dahlia case from previous books and movies. This take is a refreshing change on the usual, the addition of the supernatural spins this from a crime drama into a horror film perfectly and I was riveted to my seat the whole time. They did go graphic in some scenes, this is not for the squeamish, but it all fits in with the story and really gives a strong fictional alternative to the other stories I have read/seen about the case. Certainly this beats out many 'based on a true story' films that barely give passing glances at the real life material, here they have managed to blend it in well so that with just a bit of suspension of disbelief you can see this as a possible explanation. Very well done and a great film for horror fans looking for something new again!
