Tall Enough (2009)
A little pat but the delivery carries the tone

I'm not sure what the deal is with the Bloomingdales connection at the start of this short, but I'm guessing it is their own funding programme and if so then fair play. This short is about a romantic relationship between an Asian man and an African-American woman, a pairing one doesn't see very often. This seems to be the point of this short film, indeed the title is a response to the standard question asked to someone dating an Asian man. The film follows them through a few interactions but rather than build a realistic picture it shows snippets of romance to make this the impression we get while cementing the images of race within the two actors.

It is a little pat to say the least but I still liked it. Jenkins' may not have a lot of substance in here but his direction is excellent, not to mention the editing from Brian Gaynor. The two actors are good together although both of them are a little bit obvious in their throws of romance. Lin and Cotton are both cute in their own ways but they never felt like real people – so they fitted the film but didn't have too much to do.

Overall this is a cute little short film that is a little pat but more or less works because the delivery of it carries the tone.
