First, let me say that I never watched the Avatar TV series. Second, I had virtually no trouble figuring out what was going on. Third, while it's true that there are some cheesy moments and a couple of characters are woefully underdeveloped, overall it was not a bad movie experience. The acting was not the greatest, save for Dev Patel as Zuko. Aasif Mandvi, to me only recognizable as a corespondent on The Daily Show, was a bit of a surprise as Commander Zhao. As for M. Night Shyamalan, this was a monumental improvement over The Village and Lady in the Water. Plus, the visual and special effects were very well done. Definitely not the best movie I've seen lately, but also far from the worst. 7/10
