Review of Azadi

Azadi (2005)
10/10
Important must-see film for all Australians
27 January 2007
Azadi is the name of Afghan Freedom tower and this film is about a long journey to freedom. "Azadi" is a brave fantastic film that should be compulsory viewing for all Australians. This film taps at the heart and prompts one to get off the couch and change the world. The film by director Anthony Maras is as relevant today in 2007 as when it was made in 2005. Azadi represents the documentary that must be made of the experience of the Woomera detainees; the documentary that could never be made because filming in Afghanastan or in the detention centre is forbidden. The mix of film, documentary footage and news reels confirms the honesty and reality of the story. Believable earnest performances by the actors convince audiences that this is a true story.. I think this film makes a difference.
