Lovely indeed

"You Were Never Lovelier" is one of my favorite movies of all time. Why? A few simple reasons...

First: Yes, I am a sucker for musicals. I just love them. But Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire make a perfect couple together when they're dancing, especially in "I'm Old Fashioned" in the garden and "Shorty George" in the hotel. The moves are perfect and absolutely synchronized. I also love all of the songs, especially when Hayworth sings (dubbed by Nan Wynn) "Dearly Beloved" and "I'm Old Fashioned" and Astaire sings "Shorty George" and "You Were Never Lovelier".

Second: This movie is a great comedy. If someone watches this movie without at least smiling, they have no sense of humor whatsoever. Hayworth plays Maria Acuna, who accidentally falls in love with Bob Davis (Astaire) due to her father's (Adolphe Menjou) meddling.

Third: I am also a sucker for romance. This is also a romantic story (as most things in the world are) that commonly occurs in books and movies nowadays, but it was more fresh and original back then and in my way of thinking, therefore more enjoyable.

Bottom line: If you don't like romantic musicals/comedies, Rita Hayworth, or Fred Astaire, you won't like this movie. Although there's not much brain power behind this movie, it is extremely enjoyable.
