The Ren & Stimpy Show

Warning: Spoilers
When I was younger I remember seeing a few episodes of this cartoon, I probably found it hilarious once upon a time, having seen it again in recent years it is perhaps not my cup of tea anymore. The basic storyline was two animals (in this case a cat and a dog) who live together and are meant to be friends, but really, one gets really frustrated with the other. Ren is the skinny and psychotic chihuahua dog, and Ren is the fat and idiotic cat, together they have some pretty weird and obviously insane episodes. They fart, they show butts, they fight, they pull their skin off, they explode things, they argue, Ren loses his temper constantly, Stimpy shows his increasing stupidity, and much more besides that. There is also the appearance of fictional product commercials which are amusing, these used to play before real advertisements, including Log from Blammo and Powdered Toast with Powdered Toast Man. The show was created by ‎John Kricfalusi, he also originally voiced Ren, but many of the episodes he made could not be broadcast on Nickelodeon or were suitable for young children, so they fired him from his own show, and Billy West continued to voice Stimpy and took over for Ren. As I say, I used to find this show funny, but seeing it again I can see why it divides opinion, it is a real Marmite cartoon, ridiculous and over the top with the amount of violence and stupidity from the zany characters, definitely a show with a cult following, but not a bad animated comedy. It was nominated for 3 Emmys, all for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming One Hour or Less). It was number 18 on The 100 Greatest Cartoons. Worth watching!
