It´s time for another spring cleaning of the collection. I even went out of my way to find the first moive in the franchise to check if I needed it to watch this. I didn't really and this is not a good movie. The art of war 2 is worse than it´s predecessor for the simple reason it becomes so much more complex in the worst way posible. I had a hrad time following it and that made me never really connect with the movie. It´s a shame, since there is a basic action spy movie in here but in the end it has too many things going against it for even bieng basic.
Neil Shaw is taken out of reterment to take care of a bigger senet conspiracy that affects him even if he never asked to be invovled.
The narative here is very hard to follow. There is a bit too many players in the game here and there are never given the propper time to really stand out, have a motive or really play into the conspiracy narative that this movie is setting up. It needed to be either way simpler or take it´s time. Revealing one of the villians mid moive was also a choise that removed some of the mystery and suspence for the movie and the last twist of the movie doesent really makes sense in my opinion, not really addeding anything and not playing it straight like the first movie did with a more predictible but acually good twist about inside conspiracies. This twist is just kind of there.
This movie has the most uneccesary and wierdest in medias res I have ever seen. It was first later in the movie I understodd that was even what was going on in the beginning. And that brings me to th poor edetingb. It is really bad here on many levels. The overall cuttring is really bad, making action and overall movment hard to follow. I lost track of multiple characters throughout the movie becosue of the edeting. There is also so many unecesary effects added like a lot of slowmotion, weird fades and some white fades. All look ugly and terible. I also really need to luagh at the only time it looks like special effects were used and it looks hilariously bad.
The action in itself is also not good. Our protagonist feels invinsible here and adding the bad edeting and you have a really hard to follow movie in general. The impacts are real 2000s action though and that is fun. The soundeffects are so over the top.
I also had some problems with the lighting at times in the movie but here it might have been the disc I was using. A lot of light and explotions looked very overexposed.
This movie has one thing I really liked thoguh, predictiogn the fiúture a bit. Imagen having a celebrety trying to get into the senet. Imagen them being afraid of blackmail as that would hurt their carrer. Insane man. Also the bullets of uranium or whatever, what the hell man, they explode on impact even, do they even know what uranium is?
This is not a good movie. It´s narative is too hard to follow until it stragiten up, but it introduces so many characters that our main character already knows and has a relationship with, and we are left in the dark. It is an ugly movie with not much good going for it. It could have been a just fun spy movie but that is not the case.

While the charm of the cast is still here this one is even less on plot than the predecessor and that says a lot- While there is fun to be had and heart between the cast that is more or less the only thing that makes this movie more or less work, on all other levels it is an incompetent mess.
The Fantastic 4 is facing a lot of personal drama but that has to be put on hold as a galactic villain in form of the Silver Surfer arrives to earth.
There is not much of a plot in this movie. It tries to blend the personal stories of the fantastic 4 cast with a superhero story but that doesn't really work here. While the cast is what makes the movie work, the interactions between them, the rest of the movie is just dumb fluff that feels so poorly written and nonsensical it hurts. It is at its worst when it tries to be a superhero movie, which is strange since that was what I was wanting out of the original movie that didn't have the superheroes be superheroes.
Because these guys are not only superheroes, they are a dysfunctional family and that aspect is captured a bit better in this movie then the first. But they are a bit more superheroes in this one, but that doesn't mean much when that is not the focus of the movie at all and that the superheroes stuff is undermined by the dumb military in this movie.
Because that is the biggest gripe with this movie. The military is incompetent on all levels. Not trusting the Fantastic 4 after 1 blunder. Heiring a former criminal, letting people just walk and do whatever they want, it hurst since the catalyst for the second half of the movie is the militaries incompetence.
The effects are better than the first movie but not much better. Thing still looks incredible with practical effects and the stretch powers of Mister Fantastic is better here, but the fire on Johnny still looks bad and the surfer does not look good at all.
The interpretation of the later villain is also not that good. Just go for it, make it as we see it in the comics, this is just dumb.
The acting is all over the place here. Micheal Chiklis still is great as thing and Chris Evans performance is way better here than in the first movie, but here Mister Fantastic and still Sue is not giving a good performance. Same for the camp performance by Doctor Doom that still feels like he is in another movie than the rest of the cast.
This is a movie that is carried by the heart between the characters and that is where the movie is at its strongest. The interactions and relationship between them is strong and that is something to really like in this movie. Sadly the character growth is not written well here and the growth of Sue feels unnatural, same with Mister Fantastic and Johnny. There arcs are just not developed enough for this movie. The Surfer is cool enough, but he is a very distracting character since his voice doesn't really fit his character in my opinion.
Overall this is just a very plotless mess with some heart but most of all it is uneventful, it feels like a lot of things are supposed to happen but the movie really doesn't want to move the plot forward that often and that leads to this messy feeling.

Normally I would be way more harsh with a movie like this. Is it good? God no, it´s awful, but the campy nature of it. The fun gags, the nostalgia, it all culminates for me and make it a so bad it´s good movie for me. I enjoy watching this! But let me be clear, there are so many issues with this movie, but it could have been so easily have been fixed, had they learned more into the golden age of comics fun and not been so confused as to what they wanted, this could have been just a good comedy.
A group of 5 takes into space in order to study DNA with a cosmic storm. They are all get hit by the storm, granting them superpowers. They most now navigate how it is to have superpowers and find a cure.
This movie is so campy and fun. The jokes, the gags, the effects, the makeup, the nonsensical nature of the plot and actions. It just oozes 2000s in the best and worst way possible. I, as mentioned, wish that was the angel of the movie. Going for the camp golden age fun only and not being confused with what it actually wanted to be. It´s not all bad, but it´s all mixed with the bad to make an incoherent cocktail where you can taste what they were going for, but it´s mixed horribly.
The cast is iconic now and look incredible for who they are playing. Ioan Gruffudd as Mr Fantastic is on point with his looks, same with Micheal Chiklis, making and sounding like a great Thing. The rest are fine in their cast. The character that is butchered the most is Dr. Doom who is not adapted well from the source material. He is a bit all over the place here and he is barely a villain. That is one of my biggest complaints actually . This is not really a superhero movie. The heroes are locked in a hotel most of the movie and their one heroic act is one they themselves cause. There is even only some self-defence in the end more than saving the day. If you are looking for that, find another superhero movie.
The acting here is not good either. It is a combination of acting and script that just simply doesn't work. The tone is all over the place, it wants to be serious yet make Corney one-liner half the time. This mix hurts the movie a lot and the overall performances. Once again Chiklis gives a great performance combined with the prosthetics he is wearing, same with Gruffudd. Sue Storm and Johnny Storm, really aren´t landing here. Sue is overacting half the time and the overacting of Johnny is distracting compared to everyone else. Doom is also in a tonally different movie with his acting at times. The performances are all over the place here.
The effects are really good on Thing. But everyone else has not aged well. Mr Fantastic stretch powers are shown terribly and looks so uncanny. Johnny looks just terrible and the invisibility is mixed. There are also some really ugly green screen at times. Overall the effects have not aged well except for Thing that still looks good.
There are also some really "cool" 2000s needle drops here that are so cringe, but it´s still so fun.
I´m not a fan of the fanservice of women in general in this movie. It becomes a bit too distracting and exploitative.
The ending is also very confusing and anticlimactic. It acts like It has set up all these characters and their arc but it really hasn't and that culminates in some very weird choices and lines. Same with the fight, kind of just there. In general that is a huge problem with this movie. The weird plot and pacing. It goes a million miles an hour to go to a crawling stop where the characters are just doing things because something has to happen before the end. The characters just walk around not really doing anything to advance the plot of interact with each other in meaningful ways. It becomes this fun couple of minutes but not really in a movie meaningful way.
Fantastic 4 is a good time. It´s a fun time that I treasure to watch, but man does it have a lot of issues! It is infested with too many ideas at once, wanted to be a comedy, serious, a romance, action, drama it needed more guidance. It needed to tempo down and figure out its identity. Instead it is a huge mess, but the heart is here. It could have been something.
