In Paris, the host of a TV show for elderly people, Christian Legagneur (Philippe Noiret), is famous for being a generous man. He hires the journalist Roland Wolf (Robin Renucci) to write his biography and invites him to spend three days with him at his countryside house. Legagneur travels with Wolf by car with his mute driver Max (Pierre-François Dumeniaud). While having lunch in the house, Wolf is introduced to Legagneur's masseuse Patricia (Bernadette Lafont); to the wine expert Manu (Roger Dumas); and to the housekeeper Colette (Monique Chaumette). Then his young granddaughter, Catherine (Anne Brochet), who is ill, arrives wearing sunglasses. Wolf seems to be interested in a woman, Madeleine Chevalier, fishing with the residents. Soon Wolf snoops around and finds dark secrets about Legagneur. Further, he falls in love with Catherine and advises her that she is in danger.
"Masques", a.k.a. "Masks" (1987), is a great thriller by Claude Chabrol with an original story of a brother looking for the whereabouts of his missing sister. Philippe Noiret steals the show in the role of a scum that likes money and poses as a charitable man. The delicate Anne Brochet is perfect in her debut in the role of a vulnerable and needy young woman. The other names on the cast have also magnificent performances. My vote is eight.

The father of Serge and Toni, Milan, returns from the world of the dead and meets Serge. It takes time for Serge to disclose to him that both are dead. Meanwhile, Julie learns that Victor's name is actually Louis, and his mother does not want him to draw, and they have a friction. Julie talks to Madame Costa to know the reason, but the woman does not reveal anything. Sandrine and Yan Sabatini return to town since a military in charge of the investigation summoned them to clarify the return of their daughter Audrey Sabatini. However, she has gone missing, and the soldiers are looking for her in the woods. They do not find her but find something else in the woods. Sandrine and Yan go to the Helping Hand and are welcomed by Pierre. Berg continues to investigate what might have happened to the dam. Lena discovers what her father is doing during these months. Audrey sees her friend Esteban on the street and calls him. They leave Claire's house and Camille follows them. They discover where the bus ended its journey and a memorial to all the thirty-eight deaths. Claire tries to find them but is surrounded by the returned. Adele is not interested in her baby, who is in the ICU. But Simon asks Chloe to treat the baby, and she goes to the hospital.
"Milan" is an engaging episode of "Les Revenants', with others "Returned". The father of Serge and Toni, Milan, returns and he seems to be an evil man. Victor, a.k.a. Louis, continues to be a great mystery and it is impossible to guess his role in the plot. Pierre seems to have killed Milan thirty-five years ago to protect Victor's father. The Returned are hidden in the woods and now the soldiers find what happened to the missing police officers. What happened to Claire while under the siege of the Returned? Chloe's baby is a breed of living and dead. My vote is eight.

While drinking and playing cards with his friends, the medical student Paul Simay (Jean-Paul Belmondo) bets an amount who among them will conquest more ugly women in one year. When he travels to Tunisia on vacation, he meets the unattractive and weird Christine Dupont (Mia Farrow), who has one crippled leg, and seduces her. They go to bed; Christine loses her virginity with Paul, and he wins the bet. Some time later, Paul meets Christine in Bordeaux, and she introduces her father to Paul. He was a medical student of Professor Dupont (Daniel Lecourtois), who owns a clinic, and he offers a partnership to Paul if he marries Christine. At the wedding, he meets the sexy Martine Dupont (Laura Antonelli), who came from London, and soon Paul gives sleeping pills to Christine to have a love affair with her. Meanwhile, all her suitors die, and she get pregnant with Paul. When the girl Claudine is born, Paul is happy with his dysfunctional family. Until the day he has a mysterious car crash and becomes crippled and emasculated, despite the treatment of the old Dr. Berthier (Daniel Ivernel).
"Docteur Popaul", a.k.a "High Heels" (1972), is a movie of dark comedy directed by Claude Chabrol with a story of revenge. The proverbial phrase "revenge is a dish best served cold" was never more adequate than the plot of Christine and Dr. Berthier against the misogynist Paul. The conclusion is corny and commercial, maybe to satisfy conservative audiences, with Dr. Berthier pumping out Paul and saving his life. My vote is six.
