Bob Yari’s Magenta Light Studios will release the action comedy Bride Hard on June 20. The film will have a nationwide theatrical release. The film reunites Pitch Perfect’s Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp in an action-packed female-led comedy set against the backdrop of a fairy-tale wedding with some uninvited and unexpected crashers. From director Simon West (The Expendables 2, Con Air), the film stars Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect trilogy, JoJo Rabbit), Anna Camp (Scream 7, Pitch Perfect trilogy), Emmy nominated Anna Chlumsky (Inventing Anna, Veep), Academy Award winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers), Gigi Zumbado (Heart Eyes), Stephen Dorff (True Detective, The Righteous Gemstones), and Justin Hartley (Tracker, This is Us).

Action may just be the genre that’s most reliant on money in order to properly pull to a believable degree. Whether it’s car chases or shootouts, pulling it off on a budget isn’t for the faint of heart. So I always commend a film that comes along and does so in a believable way. Sure, Old Guy isn’t going to light the world on fire (check out my review Here) but it’s a decent enough time, especially for indie action.

The story of the action legend being almost homeless and out of money before he wrote the screenplay for the sports drama in three days and sold it to a studio is nothing short of legendary.

With Stallone, the studio took a gamble and reportedly only assigned $1 million for the production mostly because the actor insisted on playing the lead man. While it ended up being highly profitable with a worldwide gross of $225 million, Stallone himself could not recreate the feat with another franchise he created decades later.

We’ll discover the answer when the upcoming Simon West-directed action comedy Old Guy blasts into theaters. The Avenue debuted a trailer for Old Guy on Tuesday, starring Christoph Waltz as a past-his-prime hitman tasked with training a bumbling recruit, played by Cooper Hoffman.

Dolph Lundgren announced he is about to be cancer free: The 67-year-old action star shared a video to Instagram from his hospital bed at UCLA before being wheeled in for a procedure to remove the “last dead tumor.”

“Alright, here I am [at] UCLA, about to go in and get rid of that last dead tumor — and, since there are no cancer cells in my body anymore, I guess I’ll be cancer-free, so I’m looking forward to this procedure.” He explained that the procedure is a lung ablation. a minimally invasive procedure to destroy cancer cells without surgery.

He added, “It’s been a rough ride and really taught me how to live in the moment and enjoy every moment of life. It’s the only way to go. Alright, they’re coming to get me, see ya!”

The Expendables is a franchise that promised action movie fans the ultimate dream: to bring together the greatest action stars of multiple generations under one explosive banner. While the series has delivered its fair share of crowd-pleasing moments and some of the Expendables' biggest stunts, not every casting coup has lived up to its potential. Despite assembling an impressive roster, including Stallone and Schwarzenegger teaming up with rising stars, with each entry, several performers found themselves in roles that failed to capitalize on their unique skills.

From martial arts icons to new actors, these performers deserved better than their brief or underwhelming appearances in the franchise. Whether limited by screen time, poor character development, action sequences that failed to showcase their abilities, or no action sequences at all. These stars represent missed opportunities in a series built on celebrating action cinema.

Norris was part of a wave of action stars to emerge during the 1970s and 1980s, with his roundhouse kicks and trademark beard becoming part of his star persona. The '80s featured some of Chuck Norris' best action movies like the Missing in Action trilogy or, my personal favorite, Code of Silence, but his film career faltered by the time the 1990s arrived. While Norris had a compelling look, he just wasn't that great of an actor.

That's why his most successful movies leaned on his physicality and cut way back on his dialogue. One four-minute action-packed scene from The Expendables 2 is arguably the highlight of the entire series. While the Expendables movies include several of the best action stars of all time, not all the films were loved upon their release. We're midway through September, and Netflix has been releasing tons of great content on its platform. I don't know if you've looked at the streamer's top 10 movie list lately, but there are currently three action movies ranking on the list that are definitely a must-watch. They were all released on Netflix this month. And what's even better is that there will be a couple more action flicks the streamer will be releasing soon.

Belgian martial artist-turned-actor Jean-Claude Van Damme has many incredible characters under his black belt, but one of my favorites comes from a silly source: The Expendables 2. At 10 years old, Van Damme enrolled in karate school, though I highly doubt he knew the level of success the decision would garner. Simon West’s “Old Guy,” starring Christoph Waltz, Cooper Hoffman and Lucy Liu, will make its world premiere as the opening night film at this year’s Newport Beach Film Festival.

West and Waltz are expected to attend the screening on Oct. 17, kicking off the 25th edition of the Festival from Oct. 17-24. The Avenue will release “Old Guy” in the spring of 2025.

Waltz will receive the Icon Award at the screening in celebration of his storied career. He is a two-time Academy Award winner for his performances in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds” and “Django Unchained.” His other credits include “Big Eyes,” “The French Dispatch,” “Horrible Bosses 2,” “No Time To Die,” “Spectre,” and “Water for Elephants.” His upcoming projects include “Dracula: A Love Tale” and “Frankenstein.”

Tubi, Fox’s free streaming service, has announced its list of July titles. The Tubi July 2024 slate features new Tubi Originals, as well as numerous action, art house, Black cinema, comedy, documentary, drama, horror, kids and family, romance, sci-fi and fantasy, thriller, and Western titles.

As a leading ad-supported video-on-demand service, the company engages diverse audiences through a personalized experience and the world’s largest content library: over 200,000 movies and TV episodes, a growing collection of Tubi Originals, and nearly 250 Fast channels.

Sylvester Stallone is set to part with some of his beloved watches, with the Rocky star auctioning 11 luxury timepieces from his collection at Sotheby’s New York on June 5. Included in the sale is an extremely rare Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, seen by enthusiasts and collectors as one of the most complicated wristwatches in the world, that originally sold for $2.5 million.

Aside from Stallone’s star power, what’s sure to draw interest to the forthcoming sale is that this will be the first time a Grandmaster Chime has been put up for commercial auction. In 2019, at the Only Watch charitable auction, a one-off steel model Grandmaster Chime sold for a whopping $31 million, setting a record. Stallone’s Grandmaster Chime has a price estimate between $2.5 million to $5 million, but is likely to climb well north of that, with a record price for a watch at a non-charity auction a real possibility.

Despite being a box office flop, Expend4bles surprisingly earned the best Rotten Tomatoes audience score of all Expendables movies at 70%. Super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently told People magazine that Bruce Willis was so generous on the set of their 1998 blockbuster “Armageddon” that he gave money away to the crew to make sure people had some “nice extra cash at the end of the week.” Willis headlined the Michael Bay-directed film opposite Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck.

“Bruce is such a good guy,” Bruckheimer said. “He was so generous to the crew. They’d have [cash giveaway] drawings, and he’d throw a lot of money in the hat, and the crew members would always take away some nice extra cash at the end of the week, whoever won.”

Bruckheimer called Willis a “giving guy” and a “good friend.” Apparently the “Armageddon” crew had a weekly cash pot going at the end of each week of production. Willis made sure to increase the jackpot with his own money to make the reward that much greater.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake has delivered an exceptional performance after its release on Amazon Prime. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film has been successful on the Ott platform. The Avenue has landed North American rights to the action comedy “Old Guy,” starring Christoph Waltz, Lucy Liu and Cooper Hoffman.

Marco Brambilla's 1993 film "Demolition Man" has a pretty wild premise. In the near-future of 1996, a wildly destructive criminal named Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) is at large and taking hostages in Los Angeles. The cop sent in to apprehend Pheonix is John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), an officer so reckless that he's earned the nickname of Demolition Man. When Spartan finds and confronts Pheonix, he explodes the building they're in. They both escape, but an investigation reveals the bodies of the hostages in the rubble. Oops. Spartan didn't handle that operation very well.

As punishment, Spartan and Pheonix are both subjected to a new prison experiment. Instead of living in cells, prisoners are cryogenically frozen for decades and fed subliminal rehabilitation messages. Spartan is thawed in the year 2032, where the world is now overseen by a benevolent (seeming) right-wing cult leader who has whipped Los Angeles -- now San Angeles -- into shape.

It’s an interesting month on HBO and Max this March, as two acclaimed films hit the streamer along with some intriguing original programming.

First up in the movies arena is the streaming debut of Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet. From beloved Paddington director Paul King, the film follows the adventures of a young Willy Wonka as he looks to become the world’s best (and weirdest) chocolatier. Later in March on Max, there’s also Dream Scenario, a highly-regarded comedy boasting Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews, who suddenly starts appearing in people’s dreams for unknown reasons, and who naturally becomes very famous as a result of this strange phenomena.

The first Sunday of March brings the premiere of HBO’s new six-episode limited series “The Regime,” starring HBO alum Kate Winslet.
