“Wolverine people, can you please just f*ing cast him?” That’s Sandra Bullock rallying Marvel fans and execs alike to back her Lost City co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, as the next Wolverine. Bullock didn’t mince words in an interview while promoting their 2022 action-comedy, throwing her weight behind the internet’s favorite fan-cast.
But why Radcliffe? Let’s rewind. Ever since Hugh Jackman hung up his adamantium claws after Logan (2017), fans have been itching to know who will step into Wolverine’s iconic boots. Radcliffe, known worldwide as Harry Potter, has been a surprise contender on countless fan-casting lists, sparking endless debates online. Bullock, however, thinks the decision is a no-brainer.

Stars: James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, Aisling Franciosi, Alix West Lefler, Dan Hough | Written and Directed by James Watkins
Directed by James Watkins and produced by Blumhouse, Speak No Evil is an American remake of the 2002 Danish thriller of the same name (also known as Gaesterne). Exceptionally bleak and utterly devastating, the original film is one of the most chilling horror films of the last decade, and while the English language version doesn’t quite have the same impact, it’s still a deliciously nasty thriller with a stand-out performance from James McAvoy.
The film begins in Italy, where American couple Ben and Louise are on holiday with their anxious 11 year-old daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler). They’re soon befriended by British couple Paddy and Ciara (James McAvoy and The Nightingale‘s Aisling Franciosi), whose mute young son Alfie (Dan Hough) is the same age as Agnes.

We might be adults or quite old now, but when it comes to Harry Potter movies, the child in us is always ready to say Wingardium Leviosa or Expelliarmus! Growing up, we all wished to be at Hogwarts to fight the dark goblins and have the magic wand. That’s the amount of craze that the Harry Potter movies hold. They created a world of magic and mystery that captivated all of us all these years.
The movie series based on Jk Rowling’s novels starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint as the iconic characters of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. It goes way back to when the first-ever Harry Potter movie was released in November 2001 and ran across eight films over 10 years.

In a sense, Netflix really is the new Blockbuster Video (or Hollywood Video or whatever rental chain my fellow old people preferred to frequent). Once you marched past the rows stacked with endless copies of the latest release at your local Blockbuster, you could uncover films and TV shows that either flew under the radar or were deemed too scandalous for mainstream tastes. (Stumbling upon and being mildly traumatized by the grotesque cover artwork for horror B-movies was practically a rite of passage for folks of a certain age.) You don't get anywhere near the same range of choices on Netflix -- especially now that its library is increasingly composed of the service's originals -- but it does similarly allow certain older, somewhat forgotten titles to gain a new lease on life, however fleeting it may be.
Admittedly, it's easier to understand why certain movies or series abruptly crack Netflix's...

The rise of spirtualism, mediums, and séances in the 1800s is an endlessly fascinating topic, especially when you consider that, for all of the people that were committing fraud, what if some of them were really contacting the dead? Having read the first issue of Séance in the Asylum, I am very excited to read more, and I was just as thrilled to catch up with Clay McLeod Chapman to talk all about the new series.
The mid-late 1800s are such a fascinating time when it comes to mysticism and the occult. What inspired the idea behind Séance in the Asylum?
I had two guiding lights for Séance in the Asylum. First, I’ve always been a fan of the Fox Sisters. I’m dying to write something for them, about them, some day. I had a feature in development for years and it just fizzled… but I’ve been...

Harry Potter brought a world full of magic and wizards, where anything seemed possible. The first movie, titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was released way back in 2001. And even after several decades and eight movies later, the franchise is still loved by millions. Based on the novels of acclaimed author J.K. Alex Proyas, director of the 1994 version of The Crow, made it very clear that he wasn’t happy about the existence of this year’s The Crow reboot – and now Christian Tafdrup, director of the 2022 Danish film Gæsterne, a.k.a. A remake of the Danish horror movie, Blumhouse and Universal released Speak No Evil in theaters over the weekend, and the news is good on both the critical and box office fronts.
Arriving in theaters with an 83% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, Speak No Evil debuted with $11.3 million in 3,375 theaters at the domestic box office over the weekend.
Worldwide, the film’s current total is $20,873,595.
The reported production budget for Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil is $15 million, so the film should have no problem turning a profit at the box office in the coming weeks.
For the sake of context, Speak No Evil‘s $11.3 million domestic debut is higher than the opening weekends for several of this year’s horror movies, including Abigail, Imaginary, The First Omen, Blink Twice, The Watchers, Tarot, AfrAId, and Lisa Frankenstein. It opened to nearly the same amount as Blumhouse’s Night Swim ($11.7m), which ended with $54 million.

This article contains mild spoilers for "Speak No Evil."
When Blumhouse first announced that they would be remaking Christian Tafdrup's "Speak No Evil" from 2022, horror fans were bewildered about the possibility of a major American studio release daring to tackle one of the bleakest horror films in recent memory. It's the type of movie that genuinely earns the title of "shocking" without a hint of exaggeration, but calling the film's final moments "dismal [complimentary]" is an understatement. Fortunately, Blumhouse brought in writer/director James Watkins who is well-versed in gut-punch storytelling, and he more than delivered with his Americanized remake. Ahead of "Speak No Evil" finally hitting theaters, I had the opportunity to interview the film's star James McAvoy as well as Watkins to learn more about their approach to the remake. Most importantly, I wanted to know how Watkins decided what to keep from the original and what to change.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse's remake of disturbing Danish horror film Speak No Evil is now in theaters, and, as you've probably heard, this new version makes some signifiant changes to the ending of the relentlessly bleak original.
Spoilers follow.
Both movies have the same premise and play out very similarly up to a point: A family of three befriend a seemingly gregarious doctor and his wife and son while on vacation and agree to go and stay with them for the weekend. After some increasingly strange behaviour, the friendly facade begins to slip, and it soon becomes clear that something is very wrong in the household.
It ultimately comes to light that the "doctor" and his wife are deranged serial killers who rob and murder couples with children, before rendering the kid mute and forcing them to pretend to be their son or daughter to gain an advantage when enticing new victims.

Enjoyment, so to speak, of Christian Tafdrup’s bleak 2022 Danish horror movie Speak No Evil, a slow simmering cautionary tale of extreme passivity and politeness, is contingent on how much its “Because you let me” punchline gets under your skin. The grim pessimism and pervading discomfort culminated in a frustrating but fittingly passive conclusion, making for a divisive effort. The type of which feels well suited to writer/director James Watkins and his style of grim horror.
Watkins, along with a game cast, stays faithful to the source material, for the most part, in this Americanized remake but opts for a much livelier third act that dials up the intensity.
Like the original, two families hit it off while on a stunning European vacation in Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil. Louise (Mackenzie Davis) and Ben Dalton (Scoot McNairy), along with daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler), connect with free-spirited and boisterous...

Box office preview: Will ‘Speak No Evil’ keep ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ from its first place repeat?
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” may have given the fall movie season a serious jumpstart, but it’s not the only September release, as we are about to go into yet another busy weekend. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scott McNairy, and Aisling Franciosi (“The Last Voyage of the Demeter”) star in Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s remake of the Danish horror film “Speak No Evil,” which received rave reviews when it premiered at Sundance and ended up streaming on Shudder. Directed by British filmmaker James Watkins (“The Woman in Black”), this remake looks pretty straight-forward with the same premise of a couple traveling to visit another couple they met on holiday, with the biggest difference being that the respective families are now American and British.

As the modern horror powerhouse that it is, Blumhouse has Universal money behind it. Because of this fact and the brand’s proven track record, they are able to seemingly release movies left and right. And their latest release is Speak No Evil.
Speak No Evil is about an American couple living in London named Ben and Louise (Argo’s Scoot McNairy and Tully’s Mackenzie Davis) who, while vacationing in Italy with their daughter, Agnes (Alix West Lefler from Riverdale), meet another British couple named Paddy and Ciara (Split’s James McAvoy and The Nightingale’s Aisling Franciosi) who are there with their son, Ant (Dan Hough from Hollyoaks). The couples hit it off, and the charming Paddy invites Ben and Louise to come and spend a weekend with his family on their farm. Initially reluctant, they wind up accepting the invitation,...

Christian Tafdrup’s 2022 horror Speak No Evil — available on Shudder — was an impressive, frog-boiling psycho picture about polite Danish folks who unwisely agree to spend a weekend away with the hearty Dutch family they met on holiday and are subjected to many, many micro-aggressions before the macro ones start up. For a while, James Watkins’ English-language remake hews close to the original… then, the films diverge (around the time of the excruciating decision to go back for the daughter’s toy rabbit) and become different, if complementary experiences.
There’s no denying that the first film was upsetting, and having watched that you wouldn’t want to go back again, so new twists are satisfying. James McAvoy, with a Mummerset burr and an imposing too-much-time-in-the-gym physique, is a charismatic, intimidating presence. He’s not played an all-out villain before, and goes to town with this, repeatedly springing some unforgivable trespass...

Speak No Evil is a meticulously crafted psychological thriller that marks the reunion of Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy. Last working together on the critically acclaimed series Halt and Catch Fire, they bring their powerful on-screen chemistry to the roles of Louise and Ben Dalton, an American couple thrust into a nightmare scenario.
Directed by James Watkins and produced by Blumhouse, the studio known for suspenseful hits like The Black Phone, Get Out, and The Invisible Man, the film benefits from a strong ensemble cast that also includes James McAvoy and Aisling Franciosi.
The story begins when Louise (Davis) and Ben Dalton (McNairy) and their daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler) accept an invitation from Paddy (McAvoy), Ciara (Franciosi), and their son Ant (Dan Hough) to spend the weekend at their countryside estate. Having met the British family while on holiday in Italy, the Daltons initially see them as ideal hosts.

Coming to theaters on September 6th from A24, I had a chance to talk with Sam & Max Eggers about The Front Room, their new horror film that stars Brandy, Andrew Burnap, and Kathryn Hunter. From their personal connection to the source material, to working with the cast, and balancing humor and horror, read on to learn more about their experience making The Front Room:
The Front Room is based on the short story from Susan Hill. What about the story resonated with you two so much that you wanted to write and direct the film?
Max Eggers: We've been fans of Susan Hill forever. The Woman in Black is just incredible. We were brought the story by our producers, and it's a really great short story that was so resonant to us. When we read it, we had taken care of our grandfather and [his health had] declined, so we knew exactly...

The Harry Potter franchise has been a significant IP that entertained audiences for many years. In addition to J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, the films made by Warner Bros were appreciated by fans for sticking true to the spirit of the books and being faithful to them. Lead stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint became household names as Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

Ahead of its September 13th release, Blumhouse Productions’ latest horror entry, Speak No Evil, has screened for a limited audience at the San Diego Comic-Con. So, how does this American remake compare to the 2022 Danish movie of the same name?
Following not one but two screenings at Sdcc, reactions to Speak No Evil have been quite strong so far. Our own JimmyO – who actually saw the movie prior to these – was a big fan, writing, “Speak No Evil is an eerie and unsettling nightmare. It may not stray very far from the original – aside from a few spoilers that I won’t mention- it works incredibly well. The cast is especially good, James McAvoy, Scoot McNairy, Aisling Francoisi, and Mackenzie Davis shine.” But let’s check out some other reactions as well:

James McAvoy headlines the remake of Speak No Evil, and the full trailer has arrived for the new film: see it right here.

Speak No Evil is an American remake of the Danish film, Gaesterne. It comes to us courtesy of Blumhouse and Universal and has been adapted and directed by James Watkins, who previously directed The Woman In Black and Eden Lake.
While fans of the provocative Danish original may be sceptical as to whether a Hollywood remake will retain the same force and impact as the film it is based on, James Watkins is no slouch when it comes to his horror. Simmering psychological tension is a trademark of the helmer of the brutal Eden Lake and drawn-out suspense of The Woman In Black.

James McAvoy leads the cast in the upcoming remake of the Danish psychological horror Speak No Evil, due for release later this year.
After we got our first glimpse of James Watkins’ English-language Speak No Evil remake, Universal Pictures have now also unveiled a new poster for the film. You can peek that below.
Interestingly though, the film is also set to debut in UK cinemas 12th September. That’s a day earlier than folks in the US, a privilege often only usually reserved for big tentpole films. Could this be a sign of trust from Universal’s part? We certainly hope so.
After the trailer premiered online, many fans took to social media to voice their concerns about how much is revealed in it, but as we mention below, James Watkins has more than enough experience to make the film work.

Speak No Evil remake and The Front Room posters give James McAvoy and Brandy Norwood their close-ups
Universal Pictures is set to give the Blumhouse-produced psychological thriller Speak No Evil, which is a remake of the 2022 Danish film Gæsterne (read our review Here), a theatrical release on September 13th, and A24 will be giving their psychological horror film The Front Room, which has Max and Sam Eggers – the younger brothers of The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman director Robert Eggers – at the helm, a theatrical release a week earlier, on September 6th. Both of those films unveiled new posters today… and given the fact that both posters feature close-up images of the lead actors, I figured we might as well drop them into the same article. You can check them out below.

A fun game those of legal drinking age can play while watching Roger Vadim's surreal/sexy 1968 Eurotrash space romp "Barbarella": take a drink every time Barbarella (Jane Fonda) changes costumes. One will be blindingly intoxicated by the 20-minute mark. "Barbarella" takes place in the distant future wherein the President of Earth (Claude Dauphin) has tasked the title heroine, a freelance space captain, to locate and retrieve Durand-Durand (Milo O'Shea) a scientist who has invented the positronic ray, a weapon of massive destructive power. Barbarella must trek through a picaresque adventure, stopping to be savaged by killer dolls, locked into an orgasm machine (!), and to befriend a friendly angel (John Philip Law). The film was based on the bawdy 1966 French comic by Jean-Claude Forest.
