Given that 2025 represents the 30-year anniversary of F. Gary Gray’s Friday, it’s somewhat of a surprise that some studio executive at Warner Bros. hadn’t gotten the bright, synergistic idea to remake it. Thankfully, the world probably got something better than that in Lawrence Lamont’s One of Them Days, a film that revives Friday’s spirit while bringing its own flavor, and taking the current state of the world into full account.
At least, the state of the world as far as lower-class Black folks are concerned. Los Angeles may be on fire literally, and the world metaphorically, but the rent is still gonna be due on the first. Not only that, but there’s that one apartment complex you don’t walk past, talented folks are gonna be stuck in a bum-ass job, and you’re gonna have to talk down some friend who hooked up with the wrong person.

Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger has assembled a strong cast for his mysterious horror project called Weapons, including Julia Garner (Ozark), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives)… and during an interview with Collider, Garner said that we should not expect Weapons to be “a proper horror movie.”
Most details about Weapons are shrouded in mystery. It has been said that it’s “an interrelated, multistory horror epic” that’s tonally in the vein of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia, and The Hollywood Reporter adds that the story revolves around the disappearance of high schoolers in a small town.
Cregger wrote the Weapons screenplay (which Brolin has said had “a really brilliant design”) and is directing the film. He’s also...

Leigh Whannell may not be a name that everyone knows but, if you're a horror fan, he's undoubtedly touched your life in some way over the past 20 years. As the co-creator of both the long-running hit "Saw" franchise as well as "Insidious," he's certainly made a mark. That's to say nothing of his work as a director, which includes "Upgrade" and "The Invisible Man." In other words, Whannell's work is worth paying attention to. Case in point, his new take on "Wolf Man" is drawing more than a few eyeballs and figures to be a big hit for Blumhouse and Universal when it reaches theaters next weekend.
"Wolf Man" is currently looking at an opening weekend in the $20 to $30 million range, per Box Office Theory. That would be a solid start, particularly for a movie that was made on a shoestring $7 million production budget. Granted, that doesn't include marketing but,...

The anticipated killer android thriller Companion, from the team behind Barbarian, is out this month. Here’s a trailer:
Let’s not jinx it, but 2025 looks to be off to an absolute banger so far, with January alone being full of wonderful films. Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu set the bar high on January 1st; Wolf Man looks great, and Robert Zemeckis has his ambitious drama, Here, out this month. January is also set to end in style with the release of Companion on the 31st.
The film comes from the same team behind 2022’s Barbarian, an incredible movie for those that got to experience it without knowing too much. While that film’s director, Zach Cregger, has been making Weapons (due next year), he and the producing team behind Barbarian also have Companion on the way first.
Directed by Drew Hancock, Companion has been shrouded in some degree of mystery for a while now.

The upcoming sci-fi horror movie Companion has finally revealed its premise in a new full-length trailer, building on the mystery set up by its earlier teaser. Directed and written by Drew Hancock, the film is produced by Zach Cregger, known for the 2022 hit Barbarian.
The movie, featuring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, is set to hit theaters on January 31, 2025.
The story revolves around Iris, portrayed by Thatcher, who initially appears to be a young woman caught in a whirlwind romance with Quaid’s character, Josh, a wealthy and charming billionaire.
However, Iris discovers a horrifying truth—she is a sex robot created to obey Josh’s every command, and their relationship has been nothing but an elaborate manipulation. Determined to escape, Iris embarks on a violent journey of vengeance, echoing themes of survival seen in sci-fi thrillers like Ex Machina.
Hancock has emphasized that Companion is unlike other robot-focused stories.

Jack Quaid was right when he wanted his fans to not see the trailer of his upcoming film Companion. From the teaser released last year, fans made it out to be a romantic film starring Quaid and Sophie Thatcher of Yellowjackets fame. However, the new trailer has revealed that the film is far from a love story.

Fans wanting the complete the experience should probably avoid the trailer and perhaps stop reading this right now. Because the trailer revealed that Companion has a horror and sci-fi twist to it. However, it also has some comedic elements to it and appears to be promising in its content.

Companion is produced by the filmmakers behind Barbarian: Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, Zach Cregger and Roy Lee. The executive producers are Tracy Rosenblum and Jamie Buckner.
The cinematographer is Eli Born. The production designer is Scott Kuzio. The editors are Brett W. Bachman and Josh Ethier. The costume designer is Vanessa Porter.

The latest trailer for Warner Bros’ “Companion” is here. The movie is touted as a “unique love story” by the creators of the acclaimed 2022 horror movie “Barbarian,” but details on what that entails are kept under wraps, until now. “Barbarian” filmmaker Zach Cregger is one of “Companion’s” executive producers, alongside Roy Lee, Raphael Margules, and J.D. Lifshitz, who were also part of “Barbarian’s” producing team.

Whatever you expected writer/director Drew Hancock’s Companion to be, odds are the trailer has completely altered your expectations. Promoted as a “new kind of love story,” the trailer opens with a voice-over by Iris confessing the two happiest moments in her life were when she met Josh and then when she killed him. It’s later revealed that Iris is actually a robot!
“It was one of the best scripts I’ve ever read,” said Quaid in an interview with EW. “I never saw any of the twists coming, but it’s not necessarily a movie that relies on a big reveal, and every reveal was fresh.”

"Shut her down already!" Whoa what the hell is going on in this?! Another robot on the loose? Warner Bros has debuted the main official trailer for Companion, a new horror thriller "love story" arriving in theaters in January 2025 at the end of the month. They're still setting this up to be the next new M3gan of the early 2025 season - in more ways than one. "You are cordially invited to experience a new kind of love story." This is produced by the team behind Barbarian, but comes from a director making his first feature film. Starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, with Rupert Friend. Companion is a sci-fi horror movie about a robotic female companion that also might still be human? Or that's what it seems like from this trailer. It's also packed with rave review quotes from critics who got to...

This December, most nerd fandoms saw the widely anticipated trailer of Superman from James Gunn, Peter Safran, and the afresh-minted DC Studios. Was it a statement of global supremacy and reckoning? More on that later in the list (because you bet your superhero pajamas flying across the room that it will be on this Top 9 list).
Movies, TV, streaming, oh my! What were the most substantial, memorable, and nerdable moments of 2024? There were many in this fruitful year, so let's see if your top seed made this Top 9.
(And shout out to Kendrick Lamar and Drake, but your fandoms don't take kindly to being called nerds, so you two bickering in bars didn't make this list. I mean, we like "First-Person Shooters," but usually only with Call of Duty.)

Bill Skarsgård has built himself quite the reputation as being a master of the macabre. He got his clown on as the petrifying Pennywise in the It movies; doused himself in black and blood for this year’s remake of The Crow; played a ruthless assassin in the videogame-esque Boy Kills World; was the sharp-suited villain of John Wick: Chapter 4; and even popped up in twisty horror-thriller Barbarian (though, to be fair, he did end up just being a pretty nice guy in that one). But his latest role tops them all, as he embodies one of cinema’s darkest shadow-dwellers of all time – Count Orlok, in Robert Eggers’ reimagining of Nosferatu.
But could the Gothic vampire movie see Skarsgård hanging up his horror boots for good? “When we were done with it, I was like, ‘I never want to play something this evil again. I never want to...

Bill Skarsgård will star in the crime thriller Dead Man’s Wire, which leapfrogs director Gus Van Sant’s planned collaboration with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
Gus Van Sant hasn’t directed a film in several years now, with the American filmmaker most recently having made several episodes of Feud: Capote Vs The Swans for the small screens.
A few months ago, we heard that the director of My Own Private Idaho and Good Will Hunting would be reuniting with the stars of the latter film, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, to make Killing Gawker, an adaptation of Ryan Holiday’s book, Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, And The Anatomy of Intrigue.
That project will chart the real-life tale of how billionaire libertarian Peter Thiel used Hulk Hogan as his proxy to sue gossip website Gawker out of existence after it released a sex tape of the legendary wrestler.

In the 1999 Pierce Brosnan James Bond film, The World is Not Enough, the villain Renard, played by Robert Carlyle, was a tough opposer for the 00-agent since he couldn’t feel pain. That concept is now being explored with a new twist as Jack Quaid plays an everyday man with a similar trait, only he is harnessing it to become a reluctant hero. Paramount has released the trailer to Novocaine, which stars Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Van Hengst, Conrad Kemp and Jacob Batalon.
The official synopsis reads,
“When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.”
The movie is currently unrated. However, with its concept, the trailer’s balls-to-the-wall tendency to explore every facet of this concept and the graphic action it brings,...

Casting director Alan Scott Neal makes his feature-length debut with “Last Straw (2024),” a chilling slasher that is too high on its own supply. So much so that despite clear signs of brilliance simmering down the surface, you get a distant, often flat-out uninteresting genre exercise that doesn’t know what to do with its gore-filled premise. The result is a disappointing thriller that is too eager to please but never knows what buttons to push and when to move them.
The story follows Nancy (Jessica Belkin), a young, pretty girl who finds out that she is pregnant. From the offset, we are introduced to her as someone who doesn’t care what her life is all about or what she is going to do with the baby that is now growing in her belly. She casually talks about the pregnancy to her best friend Tabitha (Tara Raani), discussing who could possibly be the father.

Positive test screenings for Zach Cregger’s second film Weapons will reportedly see it released in 2025 instead of 2026.
Ever since Zach Cregger’s debut, Barbarian (pictured above) released in cinemas in 2022 and quickly became one of the most talked-about horror flicks of the year, anticipation has been high for the filmmaker’s second outing as director. From the handsome deal Cregger received from Warner Bros/New Line Cinema to the ambitious nature of the project, everything we’ve heard about Weapons thus far has only served to further stoke anticipation.
The casting is pretty exciting too, placing Julia Garner and Josh Brolin in the film’s two lead spots. The supporting cast isn’t half bad either, given that we’ll be getting Brian Tyree Henry, Tom Burke, Austin Abrams and June Diane Raphael on the call sheet too.
Still, 2026 is a way off, but The InSneider (via World of...

Update: Warner Bros. has delayed the release of Companion by three weeks, pushing it back to January 31, 2025, the date they had previously reserved for Mickey 17. That film has now moved to April.
The original article follows:
The sci-fi thriller Companion is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian, but even though over a year has passed since the project assembled its cast and went into production, we still know very little about it. It has managed to stay shrouded in secrecy all this time. Which is a good thing, since it won’t be reaching theatres (including IMAX screens) until January… but now, the shroud is starting to be lifted, starting with the release of a teaser trailer. You can watch it in the embed above. The release date gives Companion a one week head-start on Blumhouse Productions and director...

The genre of horror films has been around for a very long time. Despite shocking and frightening audiences, this genre is very popular, and some filmmakers have made a living by creating horror films, especially after Alfred Hitchcock took the genre to new heights.
Wes Craven, John Carpenter, and George Romero are regarded as classics, but there are also a number of up-and-coming filmmakers who want to make a career in the genre.
One of them is Drew Hancock, whose upcoming sci-fi horror Companion is set to be released early next year, although we’ve just received news that the movie is being pushed back, although not by much.
As Bloody Disgusting reports, Companion has been pushed back from its initial January 10 release date, but it is still going to air in the same month, so everyone who’s expecting to see this movie won’t have to wait much...

Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17” is being pushed back on the release slate yet again, but this time the studio believes it’s moving it to a more competitive slot on the 2025 calendar.
“Mickey 17” was originally meant to open January 31 in theaters (originally pushed back from March 2024), but it will now open April 18, 2025, still with an IMAX release.
Studio Warner Bros. has also shifted the release date of New Line Cinema’s “Companion,” the latest horror film from the team behind “Barbarian,” into that January 31 window and given it too a global IMAX release. That film is just shifting back by a few weeks after originally being slated for January 10.
“When the April 18 date became available, we quickly moved to secure it for ‘Mickey 17.’ We’re thrilled with the new date, and very happy the film will be available to audiences in IMAX,” a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson said in a statement.

Freddy Krueger has joined the cast of the next IP-smashing slasher from the makers of microbudget hit “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.”
Well, almost. Robert Englund, who famously played the murderous horror icon across the “Nightmare on Elm Street” films, will star in “Pinocchio: Unstrung,” the latest standalone feature to join the so-called low-budget Twisted Childhood Universe. Richard Brake, a regular collaborator with Rob Zombie and whose horror credits also include the likes of “Barbarian” and “Mandy,” has also joined the film in the key role of Geppetto.
Meanwhile, Variety is able to reveal a first-look of the actual — and fully practical — Pinocchio doll, created by Todd Masters, the Emmy-winning special effects artist known for “Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight” and “Child’s Play” (he also worked on “Dune: Part Two”).

The Simpsons’ annual “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween specials were a seasonal highlight and a strong opportunity for the animated series to truly let loose and explore radical riffs on celebrated horror touchstones like The Shining, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and even classic genre archetypes like King Kong and The Twilight Zone. It’s appreciated that The Simpsons hasn’t turned its back on this annual tradition and that it’s still going strong. There are now more “Treehouse of Horror” episodes than there are days in October. Now, despite the pedigree of the “Treehouse of Horror” specials, they’ve become increasingly inconsistent and lazy in many regards, much like The Simpsons as a whole.
The Simpsons’ “Treehouse of Horror” entries now just tackle the biggest pop culture trends, rather than explicitly telling horror stories. Instead of episodes that are focused on successful horror films from the past few years like Smile,...

Outlast is one of the most horrific psychological survival gaming franchises of all time. This series by Red Barrels first made its debut in the gaming world in 2013. The series centers on Miles Upshur, a freelance investigative journalist who chooses to look into Mount Massive Asylum, a remote mental health facility tucked away in the mountains of Lake County, Colorado.

The first game was a huge hit; hence, the series went on to prolong itself with three more titles. However, just like any other gaming franchise, there were huge demands for an on-screen adaptation of this series. Now, the John Wick and Saw famed company might have heard these demands.

Lionsgate has snapped up the rights and is set to turn the pant-wettingly scary survival horror title Outlast into a film.
Being Halloween today (assuming you’re reading these words on the 31st October), it feels right to see at least one film announcement that fits the tone of the spookiest day on the calendar (unless you have a phobia about Christmas).
Lionsgate, then, has revealed that a film adaptation of Outlast is on the way. Per Bloody Disgusting's report, Canadian videogame developer Red Barrels – the team responsible for the survival horror series – is teaming up with the studio behind John Wick to try to emulate the scares that the game has been renowned for since its release over a decade ago.

The video game to film adaptation pipeline continues to slowly dominate Hollywood now that superhero movies are no longer the sure-fire hits they once were. Written and directed by Emmy winner Rob Burnett (The Fundamentals of Caring), In Memoriam follows a veteran Hollywood actor (Maron) who, after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, becomes obsessed with securing a spot in the Academy Awards’ “In Memoriam” montage. It’s important for movies to ask serious questions. Brian Netto and Adam Schindler’s new Netflix thriller “Don’t Move” asks a very, very big one: What if a scene that would only be a couple minutes long in any other movie was the whole damn movie?
“Don’t Move” makes a decent attempt to address themes of mortality and depression but more than anything it’s a formal filmmaking exercise. In a nutshell, the film stars Kelsey Asbille (“Yellowstone”) as Iris, a mother mourning the accidental death of her son. At the start of the film she nearly takes her own life on a hiking trail. She’s interrupted by Richard, played by Finn Wittrock (“Origin”), who snaps her out of it and helps her remember that “Broken doesn’t have to mean hopeless.”
Then, right when Iris has finally rediscovered her will to live, Richard tases her, ties her up,...

The found footage horror anthology series V/H/S was launched in 2012, with the sequels V/H/S/2 and V/H/S: Viral following in 2013 and 2014. There was a spin-off called SiREN in 2016, then the franchise went dormant for a few years… before being revived by the Shudder streaming service, which has had great success delivering a new V/H/S movie every year. There was V/H/S/94 in 2021, V/H/S/99 in 2022, V/H/S/85 in 2023, and V/H/S/Beyond earlier this month. There will be no lack of V/H/S next year, as our friends at Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that Shudder officially announced during the New York Comic Con that V/H/S/8 is in the works and will be receiving a 2025 release. No further details have been revealed.

"Game of Thrones" had its share of recastings -- they were inevitable with a production and an ensemble as sprawling as the show had. The series had two Daario Naharises (Ed Skrein and then Michiel Huisman) and three Gregor Cleganes. After season 2, "Game of Thrones" also recast both of the younger Lannister-Baratheon siblings, Myrcella (Aimée Richardson and then future "First Omen" star Nell Tiger Free) and King Tommen (Callum Wharry and Dean Charles Chapman). Even Daenerys Targaryen was played by Tamzin Merchant, not Emilia Clarke, in the unaired (and then remade) "Game of Thrones" pilot.

That recasting would be the Night King, leader of the undead White Walkers. In seasons 4 and 5, the Night King was played by Welsh actor Richard Brake; you might recognize him as Joe Chill (murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents) from "Batman Begins,...
