Given that 2025 represents the 30-year anniversary of F. Gary Gray’s Friday, it’s somewhat of a surprise that some studio executive at Warner Bros. hadn’t gotten the bright, synergistic idea to remake it. Thankfully, the world probably got something better than that in Lawrence Lamont’s One of Them Days, a film that revives Friday’s spirit while bringing its own flavor, and taking the current state of the world into full account.

At least, the state of the world as far as lower-class Black folks are concerned. Los Angeles may be on fire literally, and the world metaphorically, but the rent is still gonna be due on the first. Not only that, but there’s that one apartment complex you don’t walk past, talented folks are gonna be stuck in a bum-ass job, and you’re gonna have to talk down some friend who hooked up with the wrong person.

Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger has assembled a strong cast for his mysterious horror project called Weapons, including Julia Garner (Ozark), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives)… and during an interview with Collider, Garner said that we should not expect Weapons to be “a proper horror movie.”

Most details about Weapons are shrouded in mystery. It has been said that it’s “an interrelated, multistory horror epic” that’s tonally in the vein of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia, and The Hollywood Reporter adds that the story revolves around the disappearance of high schoolers in a small town.

NetherRealm Studios has released a new trailer announcing the schedule and program details for the Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition: Season 2. And in the trailer, we get our first glimpse of guest fighters Conan the Barbarian and the T-1000, with the former delivering an appropriately savage Brutality.

The Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition will feature players of all ranks with a chance to compete for a cut of the $255,000 Usd prize pool across a variety of live, in-person events in North America, Latin America, South America, and Europe, as well as multiple online tournaments. Season 2 will begin with Pro Kompetition Mexico, an in-person event hosted in Mexico City on February 22nd, and the program will culminate at the Final Kombat World Championship, scheduled for September 2025.

Leigh Whannell may not be a name that everyone knows but, if you're a horror fan, he's undoubtedly touched your life in some way over the past 20 years. The film comes from the same team behind 2022’s Barbarian, an incredible movie for those that got to experience it without knowing too much. While that film’s director, Zach Cregger, has been making Weapons (due next year), he and the producing team behind Barbarian also have Companion on the way first.

Whatever you expected writer/director Drew Hancock’s Companion to be, odds are the trailer has completely altered your expectations. Promoted as a “new kind of love story,” the trailer opens with a voice-over by Iris confessing the two happiest moments in her life were when she met Josh and then when she killed him. It’s later revealed that Iris is actually a robot!

“It was one of the best scripts I’ve ever read,” said Quaid in an interview with EW. “I never saw any of the twists coming, but it’s not necessarily a movie that relies on a big reveal, and every reveal was fresh.”

A new year is nearly upon us – and 2025 is set to bring a whole lot of horror to our screens! So genre fans can start planning what they’re going to see over the next year, we have put together a 2025 Horror Preview, which can be seen below. Of course, at this point we don’t even know about all of the cool horror movies that will be coming our way, so you can expect to see this list get some updates as more titles are announced and more release dates revealed. For now, here’s what we have:

Wolf Man – Theatrical, January 17

Exclusive: Mila Harris (Mary), double Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz, who starred in the original Broadway run of Wicked, and Katherine McNamara (Shadow Hunters) are among cast to have joined Justin Long and Kate Bosworth in survival thriller Coyote.

The project wrapped this week in Colombia. Also joining are Brittany Allen (Dexter: Original Sin) and Keir O’Donnell (Ambulance).

Long and Bosworth – who co-starred in both Barbarian and House of Darkness — are set to reunite for their first film since marrying last year. Pic follows a family fighting for their lives against a pack of crazed coyotes during a raging wildfire in the Hollywood Hills.

Bill Skarsgård will star in the crime thriller Dead Man’s Wire, which leapfrogs director Gus Van Sant’s planned collaboration with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

Gus Van Sant hasn’t directed a film in several years now, with the American filmmaker most recently having made several episodes of Feud: Capote Vs The Swans for the small screens.

A few months ago, we heard that the director of My Own Private Idaho and Good Will Hunting would be reuniting with the stars of the latter film, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, to make Killing Gawker, an adaptation of Ryan Holiday’s book, Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, And The Anatomy of Intrigue.

That project will chart the real-life tale of how billionaire libertarian Peter Thiel used Hulk Hogan as his proxy to sue gossip website Gawker out of existence after it released a sex tape of the legendary wrestler.

In the 1999 Pierce Brosnan James Bond film, The World is Not Enough, the villain Renard, played by Robert Carlyle, was a tough opposer for the 00-agent since he couldn’t feel pain. That concept is now being explored with a new twist as Jack Quaid plays an everyday man with a similar trait, only he is harnessing it to become a reluctant hero. Paramount has released the trailer to Novocaine, which stars Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Van Hengst, Conrad Kemp and Jacob Batalon.

The official synopsis reads,

“When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.”

Casting director Alan Scott Neal makes his feature-length debut with “Last Straw (2024),” a chilling slasher that is too high on its own supply. So much so that despite clear signs of brilliance simmering down the surface, you get a distant, often flat-out uninteresting genre exercise that doesn’t know what to do with its gore-filled premise. The result is a disappointing thriller that is too eager to please but never knows what buttons to push and when to move them.

The story follows Nancy (Jessica Belkin), a young, pretty girl who finds out that she is pregnant. From the offset, we are introduced to her as someone who doesn’t care what her life is all about or what she is going to do with the baby that is now growing in her belly. She casually talks about the pregnancy to her best friend Tabitha (Tara Raani), discussing who could possibly be the father.

Positive test screenings for Zach Cregger’s second film Weapons will reportedly see it released in 2025 instead of 2026.

Ever since Zach Cregger’s debut, Barbarian (pictured above) released in cinemas in 2022 and quickly became one of the most talked-about horror flicks of the year, anticipation has been high for the filmmaker’s second outing as director. From the handsome deal Cregger received from Warner Bros/New Line Cinema to the ambitious nature of the project, everything we’ve heard about Weapons thus far has only served to further stoke anticipation.

The casting is pretty exciting too, placing Julia Garner and Josh Brolin in the film’s two lead spots. The supporting cast isn’t half bad either, given that we’ll be getting Brian Tyree Henry, Tom Burke, Austin Abrams and June Diane Raphael on the call sheet too.

From WB, New Line Cinema and producer Zach Cregger (Barbarian) comes the upcoming Companion, which has received a new release date.

The sci-fi horror movie has shifted from its January 10 theatrical release date to January 31, 2025.

Companion will mark the directorial debut of Drew Hancock, who also wrote the script. At this time, plot details are under wraps. In other words, we have no idea what to expect from this one, but the previously released teaser indicates a very twisted love story ahead.

“New Line Cinema—the studio that brought you The Notebook—and the unhinged creators of Barbarian cordially invite you to experience a new kind of love story,” the team previews.

Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17” is being pushed back on the release slate yet again, but this time the studio believes it’s moving it to a more competitive slot on the 2025 calendar.

“Mickey 17” was originally meant to open January 31 in theaters (originally pushed back from March 2024), but it will now open April 18, 2025, still with an IMAX release.

Studio Warner Bros. has also shifted the release date of New Line Cinema’s “Companion,” the latest horror film from the team behind “Barbarian,” into that January 31 window and given it too a global IMAX release. That film is just shifting back by a few weeks after originally being slated for January 10.

“When the April 18 date became available, we quickly moved to secure it for ‘Mickey 17.’ We’re thrilled with the new date, and very happy the film will be available to audiences in IMAX,” a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson said in a statement.
