Lizzo is back with her second new song of the year, the disco-tinged “Still Bad.”
“Still Bad” follows prior single “Love In Real Life,” which served as Lizzo’s first new music offering since her 2023 contribution to the Barbie soundtrack. It’s the second preview of her upcoming fifth studio album, which has yet to receive an official release date.

The song finds Lizzo rising from the ashes after the end of a relationship. “Plot twist, I’m doing great,” she sings in the second verse over a thumping bass groove, later announcing that “I don’t need him, I need a drink” and singing, “He knocked me down/ I thought I’d never get my fine ass off the ground.” She’s recruited regular collaborators Ricky Reed and Blake Slatkin for the song’s production, which is slick, bass-forward, and appropriately groovy. As the old adage goes, in Hollywood nobody knows anything. That seems to be even more the case in our hyper-caffeinated, multi-platform, AI-injected modern times: the Dream Factory out in LA seems more chaotic than ever. It’s ripe timing, then, for Seth Rogen to impishly chuck a spanner into the cogs of that factory, spoofing the inherent daftness of the movie business with a witty, knowing and cameo-jammed ten-episode satire.
Rogen’s Matt Remick may seem like an unlikely studio boss, riddled with insecurities and about as intimidating as a wet latte. But he turns out to be our perfect guide through this lunatic labyrinth, as he sets out repeatedly to create great art yet ends up, through both his own weaknesses and the pressures imposed on him, producing absolute crap. Episode 1 sets out the show’s stall in rousing fashion, with...

Even the biggest actors can have some of the more humble or awkward beginnings. It's part and parcel of being a movie star; it's not as if A-Listers just arrive fully formed based on the roles with which we associate them most. Sometimes, actors have to put themselves deeply into stage roles, one-off appearances on TV shows, or a solid amount of supporting film roles before they can step up to the big time.
And then, of course, there are the myriad pitfalls of being a child actor. Some actors who start out when they're young in notable shows or films have an awfully hard time making the transition from youth to adult, as much because the industry may have pigeonholed them or audiences themselves can't accept a kid in a new position. (That's especially true when it comes to former Disney/teen idols.)
All that said, consider Ryan Gosling.

Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy's stint as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chiefs has been a disaster. Outside of the odd hit like Barbie, the studio continues to release movies that regularly underperform, with Mickey 17 the latest example.
Joker: Folie à Deux was another colossal mistake. With Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav looking to cut costs and make movies on the cheap, Luca and Abdy allowed Todd Phillips to essentially rip them off for $200 million so he could shoot a lavish sequel meant to satisfy his and Joaquin Phoenix's desire for a musical.
According to a new report from Puck, Zaslav - an unpopular figure in Hollywood after he scrapped movies like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme mid-production - is considering replacing Luca and Abdy.
One top contender is DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran, meaning James Gunn would be left as the sole head of that studio.

It opened at the top but was dethroned by the local movie Doraemon: Nobita’s Art World Tales. The film has surpassed Wonka’s opening to achieve a fantastic feat.
When it was released, the musical fantasy starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande showed a spectacular performance at the box office in North America and worldwide. It maintained a favorable momentum and soon became the highest-grossing musical adaptation of a stage musical, surpassing Mamma Mia! It also outperformed Ridley Scott’s Biggie Gladiator II, which was released on the same day as this musical fantasy in the US. The film’s glorious worldwide collection has made it...

Oppenheimer Netflix Debate (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s biopic of the legendary American atomic scientist, was one of the most acclaimed releases of 2024. The film released in proximity to Barbie, resulting in the Barbenheimer phenomenon that accelerated box office sales after theaters had suffered from a post-covid slump.
Oppenheimer’s director, Christopher Nolan, has been very open about his preference for theatrical releases and his disdain for the streaming-first release model, to the point of releasing Tenet to low box office returns right in the middle of the Covid pandemic. But that doesn’t mean the executives of streaming services like Netflix necessarily agree. In an interview with Puck News, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria revealed that she believed Oppenheimer would’ve been very successful launching under Netflix.

Hollywood satirizing itself always brings with it a strangely ouroboric connotation—an excruciating, try-hard attempt to make themselves cooler by lampooning themselves in front of their audience. To a certain extent, the lampooning could work if the media exploring said sentiment has a discerning point. The Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-created show The Studio (Season 1) seems to be vacillating between two entirely conflicting points.
As the show begins, we are introduced to Matt Remmick (Bryan Cranston), who is appointed the head of flailing Continental Studios by its new owner Griffin Mill (Bryan Cranston), who also gives him his first mission statement—to revive the IP of Kool-Aid by producing a movie akin to the success of “Barbie,” which would put Continental Studios on the map. For the last handful of years, there has been some concern, both in the industry and from those who enjoy the cinematic experience, that movie theaters might be in some trouble. Ever since the pandemic forced theaters all around the world to close for months on end in 2020, things have been a little rocky. Yes, the box office has recovered quite a bit, but that recovery has been far slower than many expected. Fortunately, it does appear that moviegoing does have a future -- it's just that the future will involve more than just movies. Axe throwing and a matinee, anyone?
During a panel at SXSW 2025 titled "How Theatres are Eventizing the Moviegoing Experience," we got a first-hand account from several people involved in the day-to-day of running regional theater chains explaining how things are changing. The biggest change of all? Going to the movies is largely no longer about just going to the movies.

The biggest change of all? Going to the movies is largely no longer about just going to the movies.

Charli Xcx is being eyed to star in Greta Gerwig’s ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ movie.Deadline reports the Brit Award-winner, 32, is one of the ‘Barbie’ director’s top choices to play a major role in the film, which is being made with Netflix. While the role the singer is being lined up for has not been confirmed, the outlet believes it could be that of Jadis the White Witch - previously played by Tilda Swinton in 2005’s ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ and its two sequels. In 2018, Netflix announced it would be making a new movie adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ fantasy series of the same name, and signed Gerwig to direct the project two years later. While updates on the ‘Narnia’ flick have been slow since then, it was recently reported that Gerwig had successfully convinced the streaming giant to give her...

Netflix first announced plans to re-adapt C.S. Lewis' beloved tales from The Chronicles of Narnia back in 2018, and in 2022, we found out that none other than Greta Gerwig (Barbie) was set to direct at least two Narnia movies for the streaming service.
Development has been a slow process, but we finally have our first major piece of casting news, and it's likely to be met with a mixed response.
According to Deadline, pop singer Charli Xcx has entered talks for a key role in the new saga, and the trade believes she will play - providing a deal is struck - the villainous Jadis, aka the White Witch.
Apparently, the Grammy winner - who has just been announced as co-headliner of Saturday’s portion of this year’s Glastonbury Festival alongside the legendary Neil Young - is "among the top choices" to play the character, but nothing is set...

You ever just want to give something a chance even when everyone around you is basically putting you off it, and you know it’s not going to be anything but bad? That’s how I felt going into Nadaaniyan. There’s been something very charming about Ibrahim Ali Khan’s presence on the internet. If I had to label it, in fashion terms, I’d put him under the “Quiet Luxury” category. No, I’m not objectifying the kid (whose introduction scene involves winning over the debate team with his rock-hard abs). I’m simply saying his branding is so well done that you can’t help but be curious about what he’s capable of bringing to the table. That is the whole point of being a celebrity, no? But, as I sat down to watch Nadaaniyan on Netflix, I genuinely couldn’t believe that somebody behind the...

Last month, Robbie Brenner and a team of Mattel executives made the trek to the Sundance Film Festival. For five days, they braved thin mountain air to get a sense of the emerging filmmakers who they could enlist to make movies and shows based on Mattel’s line of toys — a collection of childhood favorites that runs the gamut from Hot Wheels to Thomas the Tank Engine to He-Man.
“Sundance is where the future is,” says Brenner, who serves as president of Mattel Films. “We’re trying to get in on the ground floor with these great artists before they become the next Christopher Nolan.”

It’s in the hand-painted eyelashes on every Barbie doll prototype. It’s in the meticulous detail found on the millions of Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars made every year. It’s in the ingenuity of the artists and technicians who collaborate on the properties that power the world’s largest toymaker.
In other words: If it’s Mattel, it’s swell.
That decades-old advertising slogan succinctly captures the brand promise of the sui generis American business that marks its 80th anniversary this year. It’s a testament to the strength of the culture established by Mattel founders Ruth and Elliot Handler that the company’s most iconic products have never been more of a force in pop culture.
Classic Mattel toys include, above, clockwise from left, all-female presidential ticket dolls, the Hot Foot T-Bucket Dragster Hot Rod Ride-On car and Hot Wheels, which were first introduced in 1968.

Brat summer is over — Brat winter is coming! It's been a busy old start to the month for pop megastar Charli Xcx, who scooped a mighty four Brit Awards just last weekend before following it up with the announcement of a Glastonbury headline slot just this morning. But while the rest of us would probably be nursing hangovers or taking some time out to chill right about now, that's not the 'Guess' singer's style. Per Deadline's reporting, the budding actor is circling a role in Greta Gerwig's upcoming Netflix Narnia movie.
Who exactly Charli Xcx will hypothetically be playing in Gerwig's fantasy epic adaptation of C.S. Lewis' beloved books isn't 100% confirmed, but while we reckon the Brit star could easily play one of the Good Ones, Deadline's sources say that she could be set to play one of the franchise's Mean Girls instead — namely Jadis, The White Witch.

Charli XCX might be joining the Greta Gerwig cinematic universe.
The “Brat” singer/songwriter is reportedly being considered for a role in Gerwig’s “Narnia” film at Netflix. Deadline first announced the possible casting. Representatives for Gerwig had no comment to IndieWire.
According to the report, Charli XCX is being eyed to play Jadis, The White Witch. Tilda Swinton formerly brought the literary character to life in the original film adaptations. The books were first adapted for the big screen with a film trilogy spanning from 2005 to 2010, starting with “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.”
Gerwig will now be directing at least two Netflix films based on the beloved C.S. Lewis novel series. The first Gerwig-directed “Narnia” film will premiere in IMAX theaters in November 2026 before streaming on Netflix starting Christmas Day 2026.
No other possible casting has been announced yet for “Narnia.”

Dungeons & Dragons filmmakers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have been drafted in to write the screenplay for a Monopoly film.
Last time we heard about plans to bring the board game Monopoly to the screen, Margot Robbie’s Luckychap production company had come aboard. This latest effort to adapt the game began when Lionsgate acquired Entertainment One from Hasbro in late 2023, with the Monopoly rights being part of that deal.
Luckychap was behind Barbie, a film which managed to both venerate and subvert Mattel’s toy doll line, so Lionsgate likely moved Monopoly onto the fast track. All in the hope that Robbie and her fellow collaborators could bottle the same lightning twice.
Barbie had plenty to say about gender roles in the 21st century, and Monopoly could say something about issues with late-stage capitalism. With his top hat, monocle and covetous desire to buy up every piece of property he can,...

Warner Bros.’ latest high-budget release, Mickey 17, has arrived in theaters, marking the return of Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho. Starring Robert Pattinson in a multi-faceted role, the sci-fi film has received a positive critical reception. However, its financial prospects remain uncertain, with early projections suggesting a slow start compared to its $118 million budget.
Bong Joon-ho’s Hollywood Return
Five years after Parasite became the first non-English language film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, Bong has returned with a film adapted from Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey 7. The story follows an expendable worker who is repeatedly regenerated to assist in colonizing an inhospitable planet. Complications arise when one version of the character refuses to disappear after being replaced.
Pattinson leads a cast that includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. Ruffalo’s portrayal of a wealthy antagonist has drawn attention for its resemblance to public figures,...

Five years after making history with his Oscar triumph for “Parasite,” Bong Joon-ho has returned to Hollywood filmmaking with Warner Bros.’ “Mickey 17,” a star-studded sci-fi satire about how capitalism can create demagogues and cheapen human life.
But despite strong reviews, it faces an uphill battle to turn a profit against its reported $118 million budget. While not an original film — it is an adaptation of the 2022 Edward Ashton novel “Mickey 7” — it’s a film trying to win over adult audiences with a marketing campaign based around its darkly humorous concept and a go-for-broke lead performance by Robert Pattinson.
While not as acclaimed as “Parasite,” reviews for “Mickey 17” have been very positive, currently standing at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has also earned a $9 million 4-day opening weekend in Bong’s home country of South Korea, the best for a Warner release in six years.

Women Are Redefining Cinema– And the World is Taking Notice

The 97th Oscars ceremony was watched by 19.69 million viewers across both ABC and digital platforms, inching just past the 19.5 million that watched last year’s ceremony in 2024. It’s the highest it’s been in five years since 2020, but it still has a long way to go to match pre-pandemic numbers, as the February 9, 2020, Academy Awards, averaging 23.6 million viewers, was at the time a historic low for the awards ceremony.
According to Disney and ABC, the total includes 1.645 million viewers who watched it through mobile, PC, or tablet to help boost the number to 19.69 million. The show also had its best rating for adults 18-49 in a five-year span, hitting a 4.54 rating, which was up 19 percent from 2024. It also performed 28 percent better with 18-34-year-olds than the 2024 telecast.

As the saying goes, one door closes and another opens, and former Warner Bros International Distribution Chief Andrew Cripps, who recently exited that studio, is driving down the street to Walt Disney Studios as their new Head of Theatrical Distribution. The three-decades-plus international distribution exec starts the job immediately.

Cripps will report to Cathleen Taff, President of Production, Franchise Management and Theatrical Distribution at Disney Entertainment – Studios.
In his new position at Disney,...

The 2025 Oscar telecast had a high bar to clear after last year’s show, which featured an all-time great Oscar moment with Ryan Gosling belting out “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie, which not only blew the roof off the Dolby Theater but also broke Emma Stone’s dress.
This year’s event, while never reaching those same heights, wasted no time giving audiences the same level of star power. Wicked nominees Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo opened the show with a gorgeous medley of inspiring numbers: Grande singing “Over the Rainbow” decked in gorgeous ruby slipper red, and Erivo an excerpt of “Home,” originally made famous by Diana Ross in the film version of The Wiz. The pairing closed out their performance with the inescapable “Defying Gravity,” which as expected brought the crowd to its feet.

There have been several dozen films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, going strong and releasing multiple films almost every year since its beginning in 2008. The McU's overwhelming volume has inspired several conversations by pundits and critics, wherein they ponder the series as one of the longest-running in cinema history. It is, of course, by no means the longest. Indeed, a close study of cinema history will immediately reveal film franchises that handily outstrip it.
One might immediately think of Godzilla, for instance, a film series that has been chugging along pretty steadily since its debut in 1954. To date, there have been 38 feature films (in both Japan and America) in the "Godzilla" franchise. Some deep-cut kiddie-entertainment enthusiasts may be able to recall that there are already 43 animated movies to star Mattel's Barbie, and that's not even counting Greta Gerwig's live-action blockbuster. Those 43 movies were made between 2001 and the present.

After celebrating Hollywood with the Oscars, Good Morning America continued its annual tradition of making movie magic for the GMA Oscars After Party.
Each year, the ABC daytime hosts pay tribute to a film going in front of a green screen and placing them in the movie for the show’s opener.
For their 2025 tribute, the Jon M. Chu-directed movie Wicked was chosen. Robin Roberts defied gravity taking on the role of Elphaba.
Lara Spencer stood in for Glinda, showing us her best hair toss. Michael Strahan had fun changing his voice to sound like Oz, with George Stephanopoulos and meteorologist Ginger Zee also appearing.

Following up on last year’s Oscars was going to be a very tough task for show producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan. Not only was there a critical, box-office smash hit winning the top prize going into the night (“Oppenheimer”) but there were fun reunions of former co-stars as presenters (“Twins” stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito), emotional speeches, and musical performances from Billie Eilish and Ryan Gosling for their hit “Barbie” songs that made us cry and rocked the house down.

There was no Oscar crafts juggernaut at the 97th Academy Awards Sunday night, despite both “Wicked” and the embattled “Emilia Pérez” coming in with seven nominations. Instead, the winners were spread out with two Oscars apiece going to “The Brutalist” (cinematography and original score), “Wicked” (costume design and production design), and “Dune: Part Two” (visual effects and sound). This was expected, as they were the standout spectacles demonstrating epic work.
The remainder of the awards went to Best Picture winner “Anora” (editing), “The Substance” (makeup/hairstyling), and “Emilia Pérez”.
‘Flow’ Sideshow and Janus Films
The Oscar for animated feature, meanwhile, was awarded to underdog “Flow” over presumptive favorite “The Wild Robot” from DreamWorks. The wordless cat survival adventure from Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis is not only the second consecutive indie win, it’s also a landmark indie triumph for the category (distributed by Sideshow and Janus Films). The Academy saluted Hollywood — still standing despite the terrible wildfires in January — with a montage featuring some of the most magical moments from movies filmed in L.A., including two from “La La Land,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “Chinatown,” “Straight Outta Compton” and “Mulholland Drive.”
You can watch the video below, titled “The Oscars Love L.A.” and read on for the list of movies that go all the way back to 1973’s “The Long Goodbye.”
The clip begins with Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) saying, “There’s no place like home,” and a shot of the Hollywood sign.
“F9”: Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and crew look out over downtown Los Angeles “Mulholland Drive”: Aspiring actress Betty Elms arrives in Los Angeles via taxi in David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive.” “The Long Goodbye”: Philip Marlowe (Elliott Gould) at the beach in Robert Altman’s existential noir.
