Sherlock Holmes 3 still a possibility?(Photo Credit – YouTube)
Yes. Producer Susan Downey, wife of Robert Downey Jr., gave fans a glimmer of hope that this long-awaited sequel isn’t just smoke and mirrors. In an interview promoting Sweet Tooth Season 3 on Netflix, she revealed that the project is still very much alive—though progress feels as slow as Sherlock solving a jigsaw puzzle.
Susan Downey spilled the tea to Screen Rant, saying, “Every day we talk about, ‘What is the best next version of that?’ Anytime I see Robert and Jude [Law] together, which fortunately, I do get to see a few times a year, we hang out, and I’m just like, ‘Can I get these guys back on screen together?’ It’s magic. There needs to be a really strong reason, it needs to be a great story, and we do have some things in the works.” Translation:...

Johnny Depp is a great many things. A fine actor who gets into character every time, Depp found woldwide fame with the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Well, that fame won’t matter to him if he bags the iconic role that Robert Downey Jr. lobbied hard for him to get. Not MCU, but if the reports are true, Johnny Depp could become a part of Sherlock Holmes 3!

Depending on your viewing preferences, the name Jared Harris might either be instantly recognizable or not as familiar. Harris has delivered standout performances in projects like Mad Men, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Terror, and Chernobyl, establishing himself as a well-known figure, even if his name doesn’t immediately come to mind.
Harris is primarily known for his serious roles in both film and theatre, and he has often been critical of commercial movies, including comic book adaptations—despite appearing in one himself.
In Morbius, Harris portrayed Dr. Emil Nicholas, a role that stands out as an unusual choice in his career, given his typical work. Since he rarely takes on such roles, he was asked in a recent interview with British magazine iNews to share the reasoning behind his decision to join the Morbius cast.

Depending on what type of content you like, the name Jared Harris might be very familiar, but also not that familiar. Jared Harris played some memorable roles in his career – such as those in Mad Men, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Terror, and Chernobyl – and he is definitely a brand name, whether you recognize him immediately or not.
At the same time, Jared Harris is a very serious actor and his career is mostly restricted to serious roles on the screen and in the theatre. He is also quite critical of a lot of commercial movies, including comic book adaptations, despite the fact that he actually appeared in one comic book movie himself.

Oscar winning actor Robert Downey Jr. has been a part of several fascinating movies. In this list of successful movies, however, his portrayal of Tony Stark in the Iron Man franchise stands out the tallest. But the actor refuses to conform to stereotypes by taking on fresh parts such as the 2009 smash hit Sherlock Holmes. The movie was a huge success.

Even this movie went on to repeat the success of the first one and brought in a unique transformation of the actor that even Marvel couldn’t pull off.

Edgar Allan Poe's C. Auguste Dupin in 1841's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is the first fictional detective to appear in literature, but Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes is hands down the most well-known detective in all of pop culture.
Identifying himself as a "consulting" detective, Sherlock Holmes is intelligent beyond all reason, analytical to a fault, and emotionally distant due to his obsessions with logic. But when he's hot on the case in an investigation, his flair for the dramatics kicks in and he lives to show off his findings. Not because he wants to be the center of attention, but because he must let everyone know just how brilliant he is for cracking the case. He's also a morally questionable individual, who has no problems lying to law enforcement or committing petty crimes of his own if it means getting one step closer to solving the mystery.

Deadline reports that Hero Fiennes Tiffin of the After film series has signed on to star in the Young Sherlock series that has been ordered by Prime Video – and to clear up any possible confusion before it can arise: no, this is not a series reboot or continuation of the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes, which came to us from director Barry Levinson, screenwriter Chris Columbus, and producer Steven Spielberg. Rather, this is an adaptation of the Young Sherlock series of novels that author Andrew Lane started writing in 2010. That series was a response to the success Charlie Higson was having with his series of Young James Bond novels. Guy Ritchie is on board to direct and executive produce all eight episodes of Young Sherlock‘s first season. Ritchie, of course, has prior Sherlock Holmes experience, having directed Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic character in the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes and...

It has been more than 15 years since Guy Ritchie released his Sherlock Holmes offering with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. A lot has changed in the film industry since then, with the 59-year-old becoming a mega star thanks to his pivotal involvement in the MCU.
Now that Downey Jr. has hung up his Iron Man suit, he is interested in making a third offering in the Sherlock Holmes film series. This is reportedly in the pipeline, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet. It has been announced that there will be at least one spinoff series, though, which could be set to reinvigorate the franchise.
Detective Remains at Forefront of Popular Culture
There are rumours that there will be two spinoff series, which are due to be released on HBO Max. This could be a clever move from the streaming service, as the Sherlock Holmes brand is massive in popular culture.

While forgettable to anyone not tasked with remembering it, Guy Ritchie’s 2019 feature film “The Gentlemen” does embody the two distinct halves shaping the writer-director’s career to date. At the height of its binary world are the aristocrats: affluent Englishmen whose titles and estates grant them access to a refined class of lords and ladies. On the other end are the criminals: conniving Brits who do the dirty work necessary just to get by. What brings them together is Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), an American living in London who builds a massive marijuana business by hiding his farms under the sweeping landscapes of the rich and fortified. The aristocrats get a hefty kickback to support their lavish lifestyle, and the criminals get the relative safety only wealth can offer. Two classes colliding — which happens once someone inevitably screws up — is what gives “The Gentlemen” its juice. Or it’s supposed to,...

Sherlock Holmes 3 has been in development hell for quite some time, but recent updates from Robert Downey Jr. and other creatives may have shed some light on the threequel's real status.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, 2009's Sherlock Holmes features Downey Jr. as the titular character as he cracks a case that uncovers the secret mystical plan of Lord Henry Blackwood to gain control of Britain.
The first movie received generally positive reviews and even earned two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score and Best Art Direction. As a result, a sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, was greenlit, and it premiered on December 16, 2011.

Ever since Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes typed that question mark after the words "The End" in 2011's "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," we've all been expecting him to return for another round of sleuthing. In the years following that sequel's half a billion dollar success at the box office, we kept hearing about plans for a follow-up that never actually materialized.
In 2018, Dr. John Watson actor Jude Law revealed that the "Sherlock Holmes 3" plot was supposed to "propel the story forward," and "play up the fact that [Holmes and Watson] haven't seen each other for a long time." That made sense, since the second movie released all the way back in 2011, so there would need to be some acknowledgement of time passing between stories. But since then, even more time has passed, bringing only more delays.

Robert Downey Jr. is reflecting on his film career and, the films he considers most prominent may come as a surprise.
While most may assume that 2008’s “Iron Man” would be at the top of the actor’s list, it surprisingly is not, despite the fact that the superhero flick launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ultimately changing Hollywood’s blockbuster landscape.
During a recent interview with The New York Times, Downey Jr. revealed that he considers 2006’s “The Shaggy Dog” and 2020’s infamous box office bombing, “Dolittle”, as the most important titles he’s done in the last two decades.
“I finished the Marvel contract and then hastily went into what had all the promise of being another big, fun, well-executed potential franchise in ‘Dolittle’”, Downey Jr., 58, told the magazine. “I had some reservations. When thinking of the most important movie in Robert Downey Jr.’s filmography over the last 25 years, one might naturally assume the answer is “Iron Man,” the 2008 superhero tentpole that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe and changed the blockbuster landscape in Hollywood. But that’s not the movie Downey Jr. himself would pick. In a new interview with The New York Times Magazine, the Oscar nominee cited 2006’s “The Shaggy Dog” and 2020’s infamous “Dolittle” flop as his most important titles.
“I finished the Marvel contract and then hastily went into what had all the promise of being another big, fun, well-executed potential franchise in ‘Dolittle,'” Downey Jr. said. “I had some reservations. Me and my team seemed a little too excited about the deal and not quite excited enough about the merits of the execution. But at that point I was bulletproof. I was the guru of all genre movies.

Robert Downey Jr. has already worked with Dr. Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But beyond their Marvel films, Downey couldn’t help feel a bit of jealousy towards the actor when watching him on another project.

Downey and Cumberbatch had more than the MCU in common. The two actors also portrayed different versions of iconic literary figure Sherlock Holmes. Downey played the character in 2009’s titular movie Sherlock Holmes and its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Cumberbatch would play the character in the BBC mini-series Sherlock for four seasons.
In a 2014 interview with Collider, Cumberbatch explained that he was able to share notes about Sherlock with Downey.
“I sat down on the sofa with Robert Downey, Jr. last night, and we had our first conversation and shared notes on playing Sherlock Holmes.

David A. Goodman and Michele Mulroney marched alongside approximately 200 strikers at Paramount Studios in Hollywood on Tuesday in support of the WGA which is battling the Amtpt for better wages, among other things, on the first official day of the strike.
The duo was joined by actors Rob Lowe and Ike Barinholtz; writers Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz, Craig Mazin, Jenni Konner and Nancy De Los Santos.
“The main sticking points were that the companies stonewalled us on the very important issues that we raised in this negotiation,” said Goodman, co-chair of the WGA Negotiating Committee. “They refused to even have a discussion to engage in a negotiation. We were able to negotiate around some other issues and we did make some compromises and we did take some things off the table. But there were main issues of this negotiations that the companies flatly rejected even a conversation about, and they forced us to go out on strike.

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" first hit the airwaves in 1993, and even though that original iteration of Rangers didn't last all that long, the series has remained remarkably enduring. 30 years later, the series has aired nearly 1,000 episodes through its various iterations, has inspired hundreds of issues of comics books, millions in toy sales, and is truly a globally recognized brand with huge staying power. Still, the franchise has never managed to fully crack the code in making the jump to movies.
Two films, the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie in 1995 and "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie," did fine enough by '90s "kids movies based on a show" standards, which were ultimately more about selling toys and copies of the films on VHS.

As his new film, "The Covenant", opens in theaters, there's no better time to remind the doubters that Guy Ritchie's a great filmmaker and his Sherlock Holmes movies are awesome!
With the release of his newest film, Guy Ritchie demands to be taken seriously. How could it not? The British director, best known for Cockney gangster fare, has helmed a war film set in Afghanistan that deals with the trauma of the battlefield and the American military's hypocrisy towards the residents of the land it occupied. All that and he's put his name in the title: "Guy Ritchie's The Covenant." It's all very stern stuff, the kind of thing that's easy to mock. Indeed, Ritchie isn't a director who has necessarily commanded critical adoration over the decades. He's made a lot of money and can easily be counted as one of the most influential British directors of his time.

Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t have to work again for the rest of his life. The star has cemented his legacy and financial security with the Marvel juggernauts that he had partook in. However, outside of the Tony Stark character, Downey also brought a classic franchise into a modern retelling with the action comedies of the Sherlock Holmes movies. The films were also brought to life in a fresh way thanks to the stylistic take of director Guy Ritchie. The last film, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, was released just over a decade ago. Ever since then a third film has been in an out of development, and if you want an update about when (or if) we can expect a third film, Guy Ritchie says you have you ask Downey.
Collider recently asked Ritchie about Sherlock Holmes 3, and he says it will happen if Robert Downey Jr.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, the action comedy film Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre was filmed in 2021 and boasts a cast that includes Jason Statham, Hugh Grant, Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone, and Josh Hartnett. And getting U.S. distribution for this film is proving to be unexpectedly difficult. Tired of waiting for the U.S. side of things to get worked out, international distributors have gone ahead and released Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre to theatres in some countries this week, with the premiere taking place in Dubai last night.
Operation Fortune was originally supposed to receive a theatrical release from STX Entertainment in January of last year. But it was delayed while STX merged with Eros International plc., and was later bought out by Najafi Companies – after Lionsgate considered buying the company, but then dropped out of the running. Lionsgate had also considered releasing Operation Fortune in U.

“Am I allowed to say that?” Sarah Greenwood asked her collaborator Katie Spencer. The two paused for a moment before Greenwood returned to explaining her work on Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie.”
Greenwood was in Toruń, Poland, to receive a Special Award for Achievements in Production Design at the 30th EnergaCAMERIMAGE. Her career has included several collaborations with directors Joe Wright and Guy Ritchie, as well as the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black.” She’s been nominated for five Academy Awards, all in collaboration with set decorator Spencer. But Greenwood and Spencer faced a daunting challenge ahead of Gerwig’s much-anticipated comedy based on Mattel’s flagship doll: Who lives in a world of toys?

Having appeared in everything from EastEnders to Mission: Impossible, the versatile character actor is also famous for being nice and he’s ready to spill the beans
British actors don’t come more versatile than Eddie Marsan. You may remember him from when he played a henchman opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible III, the Sherlock-consulting Inspector with Robert Downey Jr in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, or as one of Simon Pegg’s last surviving pub-crawlers in The World’s End.
On TV, Marsan moved up through The Bill, Casualty, EastEnders, to older brother Terry Donovan in all seven series of Ray Donovan. In April, he starred in The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, about the man who infamously reappeared five and a half years after he faked his own death in a canoeing accident.

Disney is once again turning to theme park rides as inspiration for movies, so let's hope this next one is more of a "Pirates of the Caribbean" than a "The Country Bears." According to Deadline, the new project will be based on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a gold rush-themed roller coaster that's been a part of Disneyland since 1979.
Though details about the project are still under wraps, the movie already has directors and writers on board. The filmmaking duo known as Bert and Bertie are reportedly in talks to direct the as-yet-untitled project. Bert and Bertie are perhaps best-known for their work on Marvel's "Hawkeye" series, for which they helmed three episodes last year.
A certain faction of TV viewers, myself included, also bows down to the Berties for their stunning work on "Our Flag Means Death," including on the episode that memorably ends with an epic scene set to Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain.

Guy Ritchie, the filmmaker behind “Snatch” and “Sherlock Holmes,” has signed with WME for representation in all areas.
Ritchie, who made his feature debut in 1998 with the gangster film “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” has become renowned for his unique visual style and character driven stories. He most recently shot an untitled action-thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal, which STX sold to MGM/Amazon. Ritchie serves as director and producer on the project.
Previously, the British filmmaker wrote, directed and executive produced STX’s “Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre,” which is set for release later this year. The action film stars Jason Statham and Aubrey Plaza as two spies attempting to track down and stop the sale of a dangerous new weapons technology wielded by a billionaire arms broker played by Hugh Grant. Robert Downey Jr. is stepping back into the "Sherlock Holmes" spotlight, but there may be a new contender for the world's most famous consulting detective. On April 5, HBO Max and Warner Bros. announced that they have two "Sherlock Holmes" spinoff series in the works, with Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell onboard as executive producers. It's unclear whether Downey Jr. will step back into his role as the eponymous detective, but the fate of the upcoming franchise depends on the release of the actor's third "Sherlock Holmes" movie, which has been delayed since 2020.
These aren't the first "Sherlock Holmes" series to hit our TV screens, and we know the game is always afoot when the consulting detective is around. We can't wait to meet new takes on James Moriarty, Irene Adler, and other characters from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective novels. Keep reading for more details on the potential "Sherlock Holmes" spinoffs.

HBO Max and Warner Bros. are looking to build a Sherlock Holmes film-tv universe in the mold of the TV series offshoots of Suicide Squad and The Batman on the WarnerMedia streamer.
We hear that two potential spinoff series from the Warner Bros. movie franchise starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are in early development at HBO Max. Executive produced by Team Downey’s Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, each of the proposed series would focus on a different character.
Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Team Downey’s Amanda Burrell are exec producing alongside Wigram Productions’ Lionel Wigram, who produced the two Sherlock Holmes films.
Unlike the Suicide Squad offshoot series Peacemaker and The Batman’s Penguin, which are built around existing characters, we hear the Sherlock Holmes spinoffs would revolve around characters that have not been introduced yet.

In its third week at #1, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony/19.99) leads VOD charts at iTunes and Google Play (by transactions) and Vudu (by revenue). In more than 18 months of charting VOD play, it ties “Free Guy” (Disney) and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” as the only titles to achieve triple-week dominance.
It’s likely to continue. Just as Sony’s MCU smash fended off all challengers for several weeks in theaters, expect the same here.
The hunger for new films is evidenced by “Moonfall” (Lionsgate/19.99) taking the #2 and #3 slots on all charts. The early February Roland Emmerich-directed release, which the company acquired for U.S. rights for a small portion of its reported 150 million production budget, bombed in domestic theaters with only 19 million in grosses. Still, audiences were curious enough to pay the 19.99 initial PVOD price long after it left theaters.

“Ozark” fans, rejoice. The Jason Bateman and Julia Garner-starring drama series is returning to Netflix in April with a second part to its fourth season — and it’s just one of many other hotly anticipated titles coming to the streamer this month.
April will also see the long-awaited sophomore installment to “Russian Doll,” the mind-bending “Groundhog Day”-esque dramedy series starring Natasha Lyonne as a hard-partying New York City woman stuck in a brain-melting circuitous loop from hell.
For fans of capital-m mess, there’s the Spanish-language “Elite,” which traces the scandalous (and often murderous) exploits of the posh attendees of high school Las Encinas. Or, if you prefer your glamorous mess via reality series, “Selling Sunset” — about the lux real estate market in Los Angeles — is premiering its fifth season April 22.
In notable films, there’s the Judd Apatow-helmed “The Bubble,” a spoof loosely inspired by the...

A list of new streaming releases on Netflix, what a concept!
Netflix’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by the return of one of the great sci-fi comedies ever. Natasha Lyonne is set to return as the temporally displaced Nadia on Russian Doll season 2 on April 20. The first season of the show premiered in 2019 and appeared to tell a rather complete story about one Brooklyn woman’s experiences of dying over and over again. But Lyonne and fellow producers Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler still have some story to tell. Netflix is undoubtedly very happy to let them continue to tell it.

Veteran producer Joel Silver (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s Team Downey and Amazon Studios are partnering to develop a series of feature film and television projects based on Donald E. Westlake’s series of highly popular Parker crime fiction novels, written under the pseudonym Richard Stark.
The first project emerging from the deal will be the film Play Dirty, in which Downey Jr. (Marvel’s Avengers franchise) is set to star as Parker, a professional thief who approaches his job with a straightforward, no-nonsense work ethic. He’s a craftsman. He’s brutal, brilliant. He’s also deadly. He’s whatever it takes to get the money and get away clean. The Parker character was first introduced in 1962’s The Hunter from Pocket Books and featured in 23 other titles from Westlake, subsequently serving as the basis for such films as Parker with Jason Statham,...

Tom Holland doesn’t want to play Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man forever. To put a finer point on it, Holland doesn’t want to be playing Spider-Man in as few as five years. He said as much while promoting the biggest Spider-Man movie of all-time, last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“Maybe it is time to move on,” Holland told GQ in November, ahead of the release of No Way Home and this month’s Uncharted. “Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film… [but] if I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.” Holland turns 26 in June.
Admittedly, these public comments could be perceived as strong-arm tactics intended to persuade Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios into a significant pay rise going forward. Nevertheless, it’s worth considering that many Marvel Studios leading men and women have attempted to step away from the secure,...
