Exclusive: Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), James Franco (The Disaster Artist) and Christopher Meloni (Snatched) are joining Katt Williams (Scary Movie V), Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine), James Paxton (Twisters) and Oliver Wyman (Feeling Randy) in Adam Rifkin’s psychedelic stoner comedy Toad.
Architect have launched worldwide sales on the eve of Berlin’s EFM. Pic is due to shoot in Q2, 2025 in Atlanta.
James Paxton and Oliver Wyman play Sam and Alex, two hapless but lovable stoners, who accidentally find themselves in the service of crime lord, Charles (Robinson), when they are made to transport a mysterious box from LA to Vegas. Almost immediately, their childlike curiosity gets the better of them and upon opening the box, they find a bunch of live, psychedelic Sonoran “acid” toads. When the toads begin to overheat, the duo make an ill-advised attempt at mouth-to-mouth, thereby dosing themselves with extreme amounts of the toads’ psychedelic secretion.

Congratulations to all the performers nominated for Academy Awards this morning!
While the acting nominations represent a professional pinnacle for most on the list, this is a good time to remember that many of these esteemed thespians also starred in some ridiculously dumb comedies. Here are five nominees who should be just as proud of these ludicrous laugh riots…
[subtitle]1Home Alone 2 [/subtitle]
Kieran Culkin nabbed his first Oscar nom for his supporting turn in A Real Pain, but no one knew pain like the kind Kevin delivered to the Sticky Bandits in Home Alone 2. Macaulay’s younger brother and his gigantic eyeglasses don’t have a ton of screen time in this sequel, but he steals the show every time he turns up. Hopefully, he’s still cashing those Pepsi checks.

Although Sebastian Stan made his first onscreen appearance in Michael Haneke‘s 1994 drama 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance, his acting career kicked into high gear in the 2000s with a recurring role on Gossip Girl. But it was the part of Bucky Barnes, a plucky WWII veteran turned brainwashed assassin in Marvel’s Captain America and its sequel, The Winter Soldier, that made him a star. Stan has played Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, throughout eight films and counting, yet that’s far from the extent of his acting career.
Born in Romania in 1982, Stan gained prominence on television playing the Mad Hatter in the fantasy series Once Upon a Time and the openly gay son to the former U.S. first lady on Political Animals. He had his greatest small-screen success with the limited series Pam & Tommy, recounting the tumultuous relationship between Pamela Anderson (Lily James...

There have been a number of different kinds of movie time machines — from phone booths, to ancient Japanese scepters, to a cocaine trafficker’s wacky sports car. But it wasn’t until 2010 that a character broke the time barrier using a magical jacuzzi.
Hot Tub Time Machine was a goofy, but mostly enjoyable comedy that found John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke traveling back in time to the 1980s. At least it nailed the complex nature of meddling with the timeline in a way that few other time-travel films do.
Because it was a modest success, Hot Tub Time Machine spawned a sequel. And it’s not great. In fact, it’s quite bad. Even John Cusack didn’t want to return for Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and that guy once made a movie in which cell phone signals turn people into telepathic zombies.

Balance isn't just something that martial arts virtuoso Mr. Miyagi likes to harp about to his students in the "Karate Kid" franchise; it's also crucial to what makes the property tick. Director John G. Avildsen and writer Robert Mark Kamen's original 1984 "Karate Kid" film established the template for the movies and shows that followed, mixing the gritty realism of Avildsen's other sports classic, "Rocky," with lively martial arts fights and borderline cartoonish antagonists. At their best, these tales of troubled, scrappy teenage underdogs studying karate under the tutelage of Miyagai and his disciples are rousing coming-of-age sagas capable of presenting heavy subject matter in a crowd-pleasing package. At their worst, they still offer invaluable life lessons, even when they veer into the realm of self-parody.
On the whole, "Karate Kid" enthusiasts tend to agree about the franchise's high and low points. The original "Karate Kid" is still generally regarded...

The Cobra Kai creator also worked on a time travel movie franchise that has gotten some recent news. The show is co-created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. Cobra Kai is a Karate Kid spinoff TV series about Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence becoming martial-arts rivals again years later. It has done very well during its tenure on Netflix so far, where it has had five completed seasons. The last third of Cobra Kai season 6 is set for release on Netflix next year.
All three of its creators have also had careers outside of Cobra Kai, though the Netflix series is arguably their biggest show. All three of them worked on a raunchy comedy series called Obliterated, which was unfortunately nixed by Netflix after a single season. Heald, for example, has also worked on the movie comedy Mardi Gras: Spring Break in 2011. One of the writer's first screenplay...

If Kamala Harris wins the presidency, one aspect of her campaign that will be highlighted will be her support from Never Trumpers, the group of Republicans who want to ensure that the former president never makes it back to the White House.
In the election of 2024, these figures have been some of the most vocal in making the case that this isn’t a normal election cycle, that democracy is at stake. Proof enough is that many of them will be casting their ballots for a Democrat for the first time.
Adam Kinzinger is one of the them, having spoken at the Democratic National Convention and appeared on the campaign trail for Harris. Producers and distributors heading to Las Vegas for this year’s American Film Market, which runs Nov. 5-10, are betting big that indie action is primed for a comeback.
The AFM was built on action movies — the leading independent film bazaar launched in 1981 at the start of a decade defined by the cinematic stylings of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Segal, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme. But in recent markets, with the headline-grabbing success of breakouts like Neon’s Longlegs and Cineverse’s Terrifier 3, action has taken a backseat to horror.
There will be scares-a-plenty at AFM 2024, but many of the market’s buzziest projects sit squarely in the action space. Even a few that don’t star Liam Neeson, Gerard Butler, Jason Statham or Nic Cage. How buyers respond to this new generation of would-be action stars — Daisy Ridley, Amber Midthunder, Alan Ritchson — will determine who...

Sebastian Stan recently revealed that he came close to landing the role of Captain James T. Kirk in director J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek reboot. The casting process for Kirk was under a considerable amount of scrutiny at the time, considering how iconic William Shatner's portrayal of Kirk was. The coveted role would eventually go to Chris Pine, which catapulted the actor into stardom. Stan would find massive success two years later with his role as 'Bucky Barnes' in Captain America: The First Avenger.
During an appearance on Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz to promote his two new films the Donald Trump biopic, The Apprentice, and the black comedy/thriller, A Different Man, Stan was asked if he missed out on any big roles that could have "changed everything." Stan responds that he was close to getting Kirk, going as far as shooting a screentest for Paramount Pictures.

In the movie Saturday Night, audiences get a sneak peek into the chaotic process of putting the first episode of Saturday Night Live on the air, but there's curiousity about what happened to the original cast afterward. Saturday Night is a historical comedy directed by Jason Reitman and led by a massively star-studded cast, including Gabriel Labelle, Dylan O'Brien, Rachel Sennott, Willem Dafoe, J.K. Simmons, and more. The movie revolves around the real life sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live, which has been airing consistently since 1975. The film shows Lorne Michaels' struggle to make the show happen.
A major aspect of Saturday Night is the cast. Nowadays, audiences recognize members of Saturday Night Live's cast to be some of the best comedians of their generation. However, this was not the case during the show's first season. Michaels hired relatively unknown performers who NBC had very little faith in. They...

“The Last Republican” arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend, and the documentary marks a surprising turn from Steve Pink, co-writer of “High Fidelity” and “Grosse Pointe Blank” and the director of both “Hot Tub Time Machine” movies. The film centers on Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger, who broke with his party in an effort to hold Donald Trump responsible for the Jan. 6 insurrection. Kinzinger was among 10 Republicans who voted to impeach the president for instigating an insurrection, later serving on the Congressional committee to investigate Jan. 6.

Initially, “Hot Tub Time Machine” director Steve Pink wasn’t sure about making “The Last Republican,” a documentary about former U.S. Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger. As a self-professed far-left progressive, Pink didn’t know if Kinzinger, a conservative whose efforts to hold Donald Trump accountable for the Jan. 6 insurrection, was a worthy doc subject.
“The thought was that we are both from Illinois, so that was cool and we both have a Midwestern orientation, but I just couldn’t imagine a single thing I would agree with him on, except for this one thing, which was clearly that something new was happening here in American life where the nature of our democracy was and is being questioned,” says Pink.
When the U.S. capitol was besieged on Jan. 6, 2021 Kinzinger was among 10 Republicans who voted to impeach the former president for instigating an insurrection. He then served on the Congressional...

Adam Kinzinger had turned down more than a dozen requests to make a documentary. Then the director of Hot Tub Time Machine walked in.
The Illinois Republican congressman who famously — and largely solitarily — turned on Donald Trump after Jan. 6 was reluctant to participate in a movie that focused on his fading hopes to retain his seat. But Steve Pink, the aforesaid auteur of the jacuzzi, wanted to get more personal than that.
“Everyone else was interested in re-election,” Kinzinger said in an interview with THR as the Toronto International Film Festival was set to start Thursday. “But when I talked to Steve and the team their interest was in the human element — what’s the cost to you and your future kid?”
That conversation was more than two years ago. Now the resulting film, The Last Republican, could make an impact on more than just Kinzinger when it premieres at TIFF 2024 on Saturday.

It’s a sign of the truly bizarre political times in which we live that the new documentary about former Illinois congressman Adam Kinzinger was made not by any of the usual filmmaking suspects. The Last Republican, receiving its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, wasn’t helmed by, say, Michael Moore, Errol Morris, or Barbara Kopple, but rather Steve Pink. It only makes sense when you find out that one of Pink’s previous directorial efforts, Hot Tub Time Machine, is Kinzinger’s favorite film. “It’s the thing that sold me,” Kinzinger jokingly comments, well aware of the director’s ultra-liberal leanings. “You have contempt for what I believe, in terms of political viewpoints,” he acknowledges.
Now that Kinzinger has become a media personality, best-selling author, and darling of the Democratic Party (he recently spoke at their national convention), it’s easy to gloss over how...

Exclusive: To the delight of Democrats, and outrage of many Republicans, former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger addressed the Democratic National Convention on its final night last month, sharing his observations about the party he served for 12 years in Congress.
“The Republican Party is no longer conservative,” he said. “It has switched its allegiance from the principles that gave it purpose to a man whose only purpose is himself.”
Any guesses who he was referring to? If there’s any doubt, it will be dispelled in the documentary The Last Republican, set to make its world premiere on Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival. Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) directed the film, an acquisition title at TIFF. We have your first look at the film in the exclusive clip below.

Documentaries about the rise and fall of media company Vice, former Republican U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger and disability rights activist Patrice Jetter are heading to the Toronto Film Festival.
TIFF’s Docs program gets underway Sept. 5 and will feature 21 nonfiction films from 24 countries. Nonfiction films about conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan and Venezuela, as well as documentaries about politician Adam Kinzinger, Irish writer Edna O’Brien and disability rights activist Patrice Jetter will screen at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, event organizers announced on Wednesday.
TIFF’s Docs program will consist of 21 films, two-thirds of them world premieres and 16 of them available for distribution. “The lineup is like holding up a mirror to what’s going on in the world today, which includes a lot of different things,” TIFF documentary programmer Thom Powers told TheWrap.
The opening night film will be Eddie Huang’s “Vice Is Broke,” in which the former Vice host details the rise and fall of that media organization.
Other films include “From Ground Zero,” an anthology consisting of 22 short films made over the past year by directors who live in Gaza; Anastasiia Bortuali’s “Temporary Shelter,” about Ukrainian refugees; Hind Meddeb’s “Sudan,...

This year’s slate of 21 documentaries from 24 countries at the Toronto International Film Festival (September 5 – 15) is a melange of newsy subjects, rising directors, and potential Oscar contenders. Sixteen are sales titles, up from last year’s eight. Two high-profile celebrity docs are playing in the gala section of the fest, R. J. Cutler’s “Elton John: Never Too Late” and Thom Zimmy’s “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.”
The TIFF Documentary Selection will open with “Vice Is Broke,” in which “Huang’s World” journalist Eddie Huang investigates his former employer’s rise and fall into bankruptcy. “It’s an insider’s look at a media company that gave many people opportunities and did things in sloppy ways,” TIFF documentary programmer Thom Powers told IndieWire via Zoom. “It soared up to a value of $5.7 billion and won the attention of moguls like David Zaslav and Rupert Murdoch.

Ex-gop Congressman Adam Kinzinger, a prominent critic of Donald Trump, will get a major platform at the Toronto International Film Festival just weeks before the U.S. presidential election.
TIFF announced its full documentary lineup this morning and among the standouts is The Last Republican, about Kinzinger’s vigorous repudiation of the former president after the January 6 insurrection. It’s a world premiere at TIFF, directed by Steve Pink – best known for the comedy Hot Tub Time Machine.
“That’s probably not a director you expect to see in TIFF docs,” admits Thom Powers, the festival’s chief documentary programmer. “Kinzinger served on the January 6th Congressional Committee alongside Liz Cheney, chose not to run again as a congressman because he could see the political writing on the wall. Has the popular Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? become too easy since its format changed?
The earliest versions of the game show featured non-celebrity contestants trying to advance up the game board and potentially leave as a million-dollar winner.
With the version that recently returned to ABC, pairs of celebrity contestants are trying to win their way to the million dollars, and any winnings they leave with go to charities they play for.
A recent episode featured actress Sophia Bush and comedian Alex Edelman as one pair and comedian Jeff Ross and Jimmy Kimmel’s Cousin Sal as the other.
During the episode, some fans called out the show based on what they felt were “depressingly easy” questions at the higher levels of the game.
That included a $250,000, which many viewers may or may not have known the answer for.

Cusack was replaced in Hot Tub Time Machine 2 to cut costs due to a lower budget than the original. Cusack's absence was surprising, but he did make a small cameo in an unrated cut of the sequel. The sequel ended up a box office flop with a significantly lower budget and poor reception.
John Cusack was noticeably missing from Hot Tub Time Machine 2 for a reason not many would come to expect. Five years before the sequel premiered in theaters, Cusack not only featured in the original Hot Tub Time Machine but was one of its four central characters swept back in time via a Kodiak Valley Ski Resort hot tub and challenged to find their way back to their own day and age. Among the time-traveling friends were Cusack's Adam, Rob Corddry's Lou Dorchen, Craig Robinson's Nick Webber, and Adam's nephew Jacob, played by Clark Duke.

Outer Range's season 2 storyline mirrors Back to the Future movies, with characters facing personal challenges in different eras through time travel portals. Perry and Autumn's plots in Outer Range season 2 parallel Marty and Doc's experiences in Back to the Future sequels, creating a familiar narrative. Despite similarities, Outer Range's time travel rules differ from Back to the Future, emphasizing fate over characters' control of when and where they travel.
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Outer Range season 2.
Although Outer Range has a twisty time travel mystery of its own to unravel, the shows storyline is surprisingly close to the second and third Back to the Future movies. There are countless time travel stories in the annals of sci-fi cinema and television, from cerebral indie efforts like Primer to wacky romps like Hot Tub Time Machine. The sci-fi Western Outer Range is one of the more critically acclaimed time travel shows in recent years.

The theatrical version of Hot Tub Time Machine is more tightly scripted than the unrated version, with unnecessary extended scenes. The unrated version includes purposeless additional nudity scenes that offer little more than alternate camera angles. Sebastian Stan's funny scene is the best addition in the unrated version, but overall, fans won't miss much by choosing the regular theatrical cut.

Obliterated has lived up to its name. Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of the hourlong action-comedy series.
The cancellation comes as a little bit of a surprise as Obliterated spent a respectable six weeks in the Netflix Top 10 for English-language series following its Nov. 30 release, peaking at No.1 in Week 2. The streamer largely bases its renewal decisions on analyzing viewing vs. cost.
From Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, Obliterated tells the story of an elite Special Forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. After their celebratory party, filled with booze, drugs and sex, the team discovered that a bomb they deactivated was a fake. The now-intoxicated team had to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, find the real bomb and save the world.

Sebastian Stan continues his trend of playing real-life people caught up in major scandals, as seen in his roles in Pam & Tommy and Dumb Money. His upcoming role as Donald Trump in The Apprentice will be Stan's most controversial role yet, given the former president's history of scandals. Despite the controversy, Stan is known for taking on complex roles and seems to embrace the challenge of portraying these scandal-ridden characters.
Sebastian Stan's role in the 2023 biographical comedy-drama Dumb Money continues a strange trend recurring in the actor's career that is fated to carry on into one of his upcoming projects. We all know what happened after 2004’s Mean Girls – Regina became a lacrosse champ, Karen used her psychic boobs to present the morning weather announcements, Gretchen co-opted the Cool Asians, and Cady floated in a newly repaired girl world… while keeping a beady eye on any emerging Young Plastics set to reinstate the old hierarchy. Now there’s a film of the musical of the film.
But to the actors who played them in the original? Oscar nominations, pop careers, Hallmark Christmas movies, prestige streaming dramas, LGBT+ firsts, and much more.
Lindsay Lohan: Ex-Popstar Now in a Cosy Netflix Movie Niche
If ever a household-name actor were due a late-in-life career renaissance, it’s Lindsay Lohan. The crazy thing is that, due to an extremely early start in the entertainment world aged three, it’s not even that late in her life – there’s still plenty of time for...

Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald initially set out to write Obliterated as a feature film. But the creators of Netflix’s latest action comedy changed their minds. They felt their ensemble cast of characters would be best served in a series where they would have time to explore each one in depth, and be able to give each character their own adventure.
The result is the eight-episode series now streaming on Netflix, which follows an elite special forces team — made up of an ensemble cast led by Nick Zano and Shelley Hennig — who wake up with a massive hangover and attempt to break up a deal for a nuclear weapon that could obliterate Las Vegas. Terrence Terrell, Paola Lázaro, Kimi Rutledge, Eugene Kim, C. Thomas Howell, Alyson Gorske and Carl Lumbly round out the cast.

There’ll be some happy holidays on Prime Video in December, as the streamer’s seasonal offerings hope to keep the fires warm in your home this month!
As such, there are quite a few new original holiday movies coming to the service. At the beginning of the month, Eddie Murphy stars in Candy Cane Lane. In this film, the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star plays a determined man who is willing to go above and beyond to win the annual Christmas home decoration contest in his neighborhood – even if it means making a very magical deal.
The DC universe will also be getting festive in December thanks to Merry Little Batman, an animated feature that sees Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, stumble upon a villainous plot on Christmas eve, one that may give him a chance to save the day when his dad isn’t around.

"I Want To Go Back Home Now”: Obliterated Opened The Door For Cobra Kai Season 6, Reveals Showrunner
Cobra Kai season 6 will be the final season, wrapping up the fan-favorite series that began on YouTube Red six years ago. The showrunners of Cobra Kai took a break to work on a different project, Obliterated, a hard-r action comedy series coming to Netflix on November 30th. The experience gained from working on Cobra Kai influenced the team's approach to Obliterated, with a focus on ensemble cast dynamics and exciting action sequences.
Cobra Kai season 6 will bring the fan-favorite series to a close six years after The Karate Kid sequel series first arrived on YouTube Red. The show made the jump to Netflix for its third season, only growing in popularity as more viewers tuned in to see what happened to The Karate Kid’s Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) decades after their first tournament battle. Thanks to its winning cast of new and returning players,...
