Sure, there's getting the bridal and grooms parties kitted out, organising the flowers, and making sure you juggle the guests so certain people don't end up killing each other, but the major part of planning any wedding is the respective Stag and Hen nights. Each one is different, but, as Ladbrokes found out in a recent survey, drinking and a change of location are usually top of the agenda. With my own un-rememberable Stag only recently behind me, my thoughts have gone to some memorable Stag and Hen parties from movie history. The Hangover Las Vegas is a top location for most Stag nights, with four out of five venturing to the gambling mecca to celebrate one last night of freedom. The Hangover takes the Stag night aftermath to the extreme, with the actual party being a very, very distant memory. Though, with tigers, gangsters, trashed hotel rooms, and Mike Tyson thrown into the mix,...

Fox 2000 has picked up Highrise, a thriller spec script from Peter Dowling. Jon Shestack, whose credits include Air Force One and Dan in Real Life, is on board to produce. The logline is being kept under wraps, but it's described as being in the vein of the Stephen King story and subsequent movie Misery, this time set in a Manhattan skyscraper. Dowling has a thing for contained thrillers. He was a writer on the 2005 Jodie Foster thriller Flightplan, which was set on a plane. Vinessa Shaw will star in Child's Play, a remake of the thriller Who Can Kill a Child? She'll be joined by Ebon Moss (The Lake House) and Daniel Giminez Cacho (Chronos). A fella going by the name Makinov will direct.
Shaw previously starred in The Hills Have Eyes remake and Stag Night. Here, she'll play a pregnant woman who ventures to a remote island for a holiday excursion and has her plans spoiled by evil, possessed children.
This isn't the first time Who Can Kill a Child? has tried to be remade, however.

The Eli Roth-less 'Hostel: Part III' hits DVD and digital download later this month courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Scott Spiegel helms the third movie in the torturous trilogy which moves the action from Eastern Europe all the way slap-bang into Las Vegas. A stackathon of new stills from the threequel have popped over at Dread Central but gore-hounds may be disappointed that none of them are particularly revealing in the 'sickening' department so we guess you'll just have to pick up the DVD at the end of the month. Kip Pardue ('Stag Night'), Thomas Kretschmann ('Transsiberian'), John Hensley, Sarah Habel, Barry Livingston, Kelly Thiebaud (below), Brain Hallisay, Skyler Stone, Danny Jacobs, Chris Coy, Alicia Vela-Bailey and Gordon Michaels all star. Check out just some of the new stills and DVD artwork below. You can head over to the Dread Central link below for the rest!

Brit indie rockers Babybird recently collaborated with Pirates star Johnny Depp for a festive tune that has religious groups fuming. The actor lent his vocals to the track "Jesus Stag Night Club," which tells the story of a lap-dance loving Christ figure who boozes it up like a champ. Christian groups like the Focus on Family campaign and The Christian Coalition are not grinning at Depp and Babybird's humorous look at what Jesus does on his days off. (At least we know where to find him "resting" on the seventh day … ) Detractors are calling the song a "slap in the face" and a "disgrace." Babybird frontman Stephen Jones has shrugged it all off. "Some people have no sense of humor," he said. Christian Coalition...

London, Dec 5: Actor Johnny Depp has come under fire from religious activists for his new Christmas-themed track.
The 48-year-old teamed up with British rockers Babybird to record 'The Jesus Stag Night Club', which tells a story of a boozing Christ-like figure in a strip club. But the track has caused uproar amongst religious groups including the Focus on Family campaign.
'We are sickened by Mr. Depp's behaviour. Why did he need to record this song? It is a slap in the face to Christians all over the world,' contactmusic.com quoted a spokesperson as saying.

Christians Take Aim At Depp For Christmas Song

Johnny Depp has come under fire from religious activists for a new Christmas-themed track they've branded "filth".
The Pirates of the Caribbean star teamed up with British rockers Babybird to record The Jesus Stag Night Club, which tells a story of a boozing Christ-like figure in a strip club.
But the track has caused uproar amongst religious groups including the Focus on Family campaign.
A spokesperson says, "We are sickened by Mr. Depp's behaviour. Why did he need to record this song? It is a slap in the face to Christians all over the world."
Lee Douglas of The Christian Coalition adds, "I'm sure he thinks he's being very funny but he's simply a disgrace. One day, Johnny Depp and his cronies will face the judgment of our Lord and they will burn in hell for this filth."
Babybird frontman Stephen Jones has brushed off the controversy, insisting, "Some people have no sense of humour."...

Earlier this week we bought you news that Scott Spiegel's 'Hostel: Part III' would be hitting DVD shelves this Christmas and that the action would be moving to Las Vegas. And now in keeping with trailer Friday it's time to take a look at the first new trailer for the third installment that'll likely keep gore-hounds happy over the seasonal period. The trailer features gambling, drinking and topless strippers shaking their stuff, the usual Vegas feel and then of course the inevitable 'lights out' gas and the subsequent torturing ensues. Kip Pardue ('Stag Night'), Thomas Kretschmann ('Transsiberian'), John Hensley, Sarah Habel, Barry Livingston, Kelly Thiebaud (below), Brain Hallisay, Skyler Stone, Danny Jacobs, Chris Coy, Alicia Vela-Bailey and Gordon Michaels all star. Check out the new trailer, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, and plot details below....

The Scott Spiegel helmed follow-up 'Hostel: Part III' appears that its going to be hitting DVD this December. So obviously no theatrical faith in the movie following director Eli Roth's previous two efforts then. But in spite of the odd release month thats rumoured the movie looks like it's set in Vegas and not in keeping with its Slovakian-based predecessors. We're not really sure just what this follow-up is going to be like but it looks to us like it's using the typical horror switcheroo for the third chapter which usually changes just about everything but still clings on to the main theme which in this case would be torture and gore. Kip Pardue ('Stag Night'), Thomas Kretschmann ('Transsiberian'), John Hensley, Sarah Habel, Barry Livingston, Kelly Thiebaud (below), Brain Hallisay, Skyler Stone, Danny Jacobs, Chris Coy, Alicia Vela-Bailey and Gordon Michaels all star.

The latest Creep clone, er, The Descent rip-off, oh wait, I mean companion to Stag Night - oh hell, consider it all of the above - is here. It's called Underground and we've got the trailer. This time, it's about some war buddies, and their girlfriends, who are up against a subterranean menace. The IMDb has the film listed under "drama." Right. Directed by Red Shoe Diaries vet Rafael Eisenman, the film's official synopsis goes like this: A group of friends fight for their lives against the lethal and ravenous creatures lurking beneath the Earth's surface. The group finds themselves at the mercy of creatures genetically engineered by the military to be expendable in battle. Though they fought countless battles in Iraq, these friends never knew real...

Title: Stag Night Directed by: Peter A. Dowling Starring: Kip Pardue, Vinessa Shaw and Breckin Meyer The tagline to this film is: No matter what happens, stay on the train. The question has been asked repeatedly since the video nasty scare of the 1980s (and most likely even well before that), and nobody (especially the filmmakers involved) has felt compelled to answer it: who exactly are slasher movies for? Like any subgenre, they have a base that doesn’t usually stray too far from an easy sociocultural test-market-ready categorization, but frequently mix in elements that suggest that more people watch these movies than would ever freely admit to doing so. Further confusing the issue is Stag Night, a very minor entry in the horror canon that nonetheless inspires you to ask troubling questions about the necessity of the genre itself and its place in the cultural landscape. Basically, you can’t help but wonder whether or not you’re supposed to like the people that are being killed, or whether you’re supposed to be cheering for the largely mute...

As I sat down to watch the generic-sounding but slightly promising Stag Night, I popped on to the twitter to share my rambling thoughts. Within minutes I had a response from one of my coolest colleagues, Brian W. Collins (of Bloody-Disgusting and Horror Movie a Day infamy), who said something like "Dude, don't bother. It's like watching Creep while your cat scratches your crotch." (I'm paraphrasing, and yes I have a cat.) But despite his wise-ass comments, Brian knows fully well that I'm required (and of course happy) to throw 80 minutes at *any* potentially colorful horror flick -- especially if I'm going to, y'know, write a review of the thing. And hey, the blandly-titled Stag Night (it's...

Release of the week goes to the new Twilight Zone: Season 3 Blu-ray. Cleaned up, crisp and featuring all 37 episodes and a ton of features, Twilight Zone fans couldn't ask for more. Season three also features a few of my personal favourite episodes including the post-apocalyptic "Two" with Charles Bronson, "The Shelter" which I'm sure you've seen parodied on The Simpsons. Seasons 1 and 2 are also out on blu-ray.
There's a new Wesley Snipes actioner out this week called Game of Death. Haven't seen it, but I hear its got a crap load of gun heavy action and Zoe Bell kicking serious ass. If you're a fan of hard boiled 90s actioners about CIA agents directed by dudes who wanted to be John Woo you'll probably like this. If you're not, you won't.
Also out this week is The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu about a down on his luck office...

It’s Tony Scott and a runaway train. It’s average, watchable, yet it’s the banter between Denzel and Capt. Kirk that makes it better than it probably should have been. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Rent Donny says: Rent

Director/writer: Peter A. Dowling.
Stag Night is a horror film completed in 2008 by first time director Peter A. Dowling (Flightplan). This title was filmed in New York City and much of the action happens below ground. Dowling has stated of this film that he liked the idea of having the protagonists so close to help, yet so far away (Fangoria). However, Stag Night is more of a warning not to get off at an unauthorized stop, than about finding help.
You should not pry open the doors on a subway car, unless you want to face a group of man/woman eating hobos. If you do, you will soon be on the run from a feral boy and his unshaven uncles. The best you can hope for is finding the next station to exit at.
You will have to find others who know the way out, before finding safety.

Stag Night is a low budget venture from first time director Peter A. Dowling (Flightplan) and this film, described as "story-wise the film is a cliche ridden tale that offers up no suprises" (Blogomatic), will be released on DVD February 15th. This film had some troubles finding distribution before settling with Ghost House Underground (Dance of the Dead), as Stag Night was completed in 2008. However, sometimes indies take their time to find an audience and Blogomatic3000 has also equated this film with "an enjoyable time." All aboard the Stag Night trailer below and check out the recognizable cast, which includes Breckin Meyer (Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare), Kip Pardue (Hostel III), and Vinessa Shaw from The Hills Have Eyes (Fearnet.com).
The film's synopsis is here:

Horror fans can rejoice this week as a slew of horror films that were submitted to the MPAA all got an R rating from the MPAA. No battles over an Nc-17 rating and this batch of films is clearly not meant for the PG-13 crowd either. Husk is rated R for horror violence and language. Stag Night (aka Stag Night of the Dead) is rated R for strong bloody violence, language and brief sexual content. The Trap Door is rated R for language, violent grisly images and brief sexuality.
Here is what info is known about each of these films:
Husk appears to be part of After Dark Films "Originals" lineup. The cast includes Devon Graye, Wes Chatham, C.J. Thomason, Tammin Sursok and Ben Easter. The crew is made up of Brett Simmons - Director / Writer (story) (screenplay), Stephanie Caleb - Producer, Limor Diamant - Producer, Moshe Diamant - Producer,...

German writer-director Andy Fetscher is digging deep beneath the streets of Berlin to find terror. Making its 2010 American Film Market debut (yes, it's that time of year again) is the filmmaker's Urban Explorer . The story focuses on four "urban explorers" who suddenly realize they have made a big mistake when a brutal border guard suddenly appears from nowhere. Sounds like a mix of Creep , Stag Night and maybe The Descent .

“My favorite films growing up were the works of John Carpenter,” Peter A. Dowling, writer and director of the feature flick Stag Night, told Dread as we discussed his film, which premieres this coming Monday, October 11th, at 9:30pm, as selected by Rachel Belofsky’s Screamfest L.A.!
“Halloween is one of my all time favorites,” continued Dowling of his love for Carpenter’s body of work, “and Assault on Precinct 13 is a great exercise in sustained suspense in a single location, as was The Thing. Actually, until writing Stag Night (review here) and Flightplan, which takes place entirely on a plane, I hadn’t realized how much I must have learned from Carpenter. Being a first-time director I knew there was an unwritten - or maybe written by you guys,” he laughed, “formula for a low-budget horror film, and that is something horrible happens to a small...

Breaking News: Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively that Brian Hallisay ("Eastwick", "Bones") and Sarah Habel ("Party Down", The Butterfly Effect 3) will be starring alongside Kip Pardue (The Rules of Attraction, Wizard of Gore, Stag Night) in Hostel: Part III (Hostel 3). Being directed by Scott Spiegel from a screenplay by producer Michael Weiss, the interesting turn is that Hostel: Part III will head to Vegas where a bachelor party goes horribly wrong. Could the groom have a price on his head? Expect plenty more casting in the coming weeks. Shooting is set to begin next week. Eli Roth, who directed the first two films in the franchise, told Bloody Disgusting he has nothing to do with this third film.
