Land of the Lost is based on a TV series, also called Land of the Lost (1974), that aired on US television from 1974-1977. The TV series was created by brothers Sid and Marty Krofft, a team of producers who were particularly influential in children's television programming during this time. However, Land of the Lost, the movie is based on a screenplay by writers Chris Henchey and Dennis McNicholas.
The three main characters—Rick Marshall (played by Will Ferrell), Holly (Anna Friel), and Will (Danny McBride)—are back, although their relationship is changed. They are "colleagues" instead of a family. Cha-Ka (Jorma Taccone), Enik (John Boylan), the Sleestaks, and the Pakunis are also featured.
