Racism and fat shaming are two main plot points.
Velma and Amber are extremely racist and fat phobic they make rude remarks about other people and have very vindictive personalities.
This film is set in the early 60s when racial segregation was common several instances of this are shown such as a rope separating black and white teens at a dance party, the detention room and back of a school bus being full of black students and black dancers only being allowed to perform once a month on a popular TV show which this episode includes a term that is now considered a racial slur in present day.
The song " I Know Where I've Been" may make some viewers emotional especially if they have experienced racial discrimination.
