The French version is dubbed by NHL player Georges Laraque (#17 for the Montreal Canadiens). After seeing the movie, Laraque became a vegan and worked with French language coaches to be able to perfectly dub the movie in French. He wanted to ensure everyone could see the movie.
Earthlings is the first part of a trilogy. Right now, "Nation Earth" is working on the second part (UNITY), a documentary film about unifying the three parts of earth: nature, animals and humankind.
Phoenix is widely known for his animal rights advocacy. He became a vegan when he, at the age of 3, joined his siblings on a boat to catch fish. He saw how a fish was caught and tossed aside, writhing. Phoenix is a member of In Defense of Animals and PETA and has actively campaigned for both.
Shaun Monson started to film in shelters around Los Angelos in 1999. After that, it took another 6 years to complete the film because of the difficulty in obtaining footage within these profitable industries.
