Bong’s first film since his multiple Oscar winner Parasite, Mickey 17 was the No. 1 draw for Korea audiences who gave it a 70% market share. The movie debuted on a non-traditional Friday, with the early play teeing up the global rollout this coming week which will include such majors as China, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, Australia and all of Latin America, alongside North America.

“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” is nearing a sweet box office benchmark with the fourth installment in the love-struck film franchise about to surpass $75 million overseas.
“Bridget Jones 4,” starring Renée Zellweger as the titular heroine, added a solid $19.2 million over the weekend from 73 international markets for a tally of $72.9 million. Those ticket sales are higher than the three prior “Bridget Jones” films as well as 2022’s Julia Roberts and George Clooney-led “Ticket to Paradise” at the same point in their theatrical cycles, according to distributor Universal Pictures. The $50 million-budgeted film debuted on Peacock in the United States.
For context, 2001’s “Bridget Jones’s Diary” earned $262 million internationally while its sequels, 2004’s “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” and 2016’s “Bridget Jones’s Baby” generated $224 million and $187 million overseas, respectively. Meanwhile, “Ticket to Paradise” earned $100 million overseas. With all of these romantic-comedies, foreign ticket sales accounted for at least 60% and as much as 89% of overall revenues.

Sofia Carson is becoming a Netflix star. After being brilliant in 2024's thriller, Carry-On, she will now turn lead in a new Netflix movie called The Life List. The story revolves around a woman who is set on a journey by her mother to re-access her life. The twist is that Carson's character (Alex Rose) is given a new DVD each time she goes about completing tasks on her bucket list.
Mind you, at least some of the bucket list was created when Alex was a child, so some of what she has to do might be something she would never do as an adult. The list includes participating in an open mic night, playing basketball in a one-on-one game, and teaching at a women's shelter. The truth is that the film is not a series of episodes of Alex working her way down the list.

Sofia Carson in The Life List – Picture: Netflix
In March 2024, Netflix confirmed The Life List, a new romantic comedy starring Sofia Carson. The movie is due out on Netflix soon, so we’re here with everything known about it, including the full cast, production updates, plot details, and more on its release date, which is now set for March 28th.
Adam Brooks is on board to both write and direct the project. The Canadian screenwriter and director is no stranger to the romantic comedy space, having written or directed (or both) titles like Definitely, Maybe, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, plus the Netflix Original movie Nappily Ever After, released in 2018.
This isn’t the first time The Lift List has been attempted to be brought to the big screen. Ahead of the book’s release in 2013, Fox 2000 optioned the film rights for the novel, with Hutch Parker set to produce.

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy goes straight to streaming in the US – but easily defeats Captain America: Brave New World in UK cinemas.
An interesting box office tussle took place at the UK box office this weekend just gone, as two franchises duked it out for the top spot. Appreciating the headline to this article has given the ending away, it was a case of the fourth Bridget Jones film going up against the 35th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Captain America: Brave New World.
In the end, it wasn’t even close either.

Update: Super busy weekend at the international box office with Marvel/Disney’s Captain America: Brave New World and Universal/Working Title’s Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy both making their debuts while Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2 keeps zooming along — and also hit North America this session.
Captain America came in pretty much bang on worldwide projections with $192.4M (including domestic’s holiday Monday estimate). Of that, $92.4M is from 52 overseas markets through Sunday. The international bow is under the $110M we saw as a possibility before the weekend, though as cautioned, that included the swing market of China where Brave New World faced massive competition from Ne Zha 2.
Anthony Mackie’s first full feature adventure carrying the shield opened No. 1 or No. 1 non-local in nearly all major markets as well as most smaller markets. The most significant market not at No. 1 was the UK where Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy...

Moviegoers are still mad about Bridget Jones.
“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” the fourth installment in the love-struck franchise, opened solidly to $35.5 million from 71 markets at the international box office. Those ticket sales outshined “Sex and the City 2” as the biggest start for a romantic comedy in comparable overseas markets, according to distributor Universal Pictures. The film, starring Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones, debuted on Peacock in the United States.
The fourth “Bridget Jones” enjoyed the biggest start in the United Kingdom and Ireland with $14.8 million, followed by Australia with $3.3 million, and France (where Studio Canal is handling the rollout) with $3.3 million.
Though domestic cinema operators are disappointed that “Bridget” isn’t playing in U.S. theaters, the franchise has always been far bigger at the international box office. For 2001’s “Bridget Jones’s Diary” ($334 million globally), 2004’s “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” ($265 million globally) and 2016’s “Bridget Jones’s Baby...

Renee Zellweger admitted returning to the 'Bridget Jones' universe felt "strange".The 55-year-old actress has already played the title character in the 2000 original, 2004’s 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason' and 2016’s 'Bridget Jones’s Baby' and admitted it felt strange at first when returning for 'Bridget Jones: Mad About a Boy'.She told Variety: "It was really strange meeting up with the friends again in Bridget’s flat, and sitting in the pub downstairs from Bridget’s flat, and looking at each other thinking, ‘Isn’t this weird?’ It’s so weird that we’ve come together again and it’s become a thing that we’ve been blessed to do again and again. It’s crazy."While Bridget's on-screen love Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth in previous movies) has been killed off, she has two new hunky leading men to choose from in the new movie,...

Plot: After jumping back into the dating pool, single mother Bridget Jones finds herself caught between a younger man and her son’s science teacher.
Review: Back in 2001, there was some slight controversy surrounding Renee Zellweger being cast as the frumpy, overweight character of Bridget Jones. Known for her svelte physique, the pounds Zellweger gained for the role in the adaptation of the Helen Fielding novel was just the right amount to make the romantic comedy co-starring Hugh Grant and Colin Firth a hit with critics and audiences. The sequels, 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby, brought in less than their predecessor at the box office, with the second film lambasted by critics. The fourth installment of the “Bridget Jones” franchise is upon us, and that might mean you need to play a bit of catch-up to remember everything that’s gone down.
In the newest entry, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” we find Bridget as a widowed mother of two, after the tragic passing of Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). But, as always, she finds herself in a bit of a love triangle.
We won’t get into spoilers here, we just want to prep you for it all. And that means making sure you’ve seen all three previous films.
How to Watch the ‘Bridget Jones’ Movies in Order
Though some franchises like to make the order of films apparent by tossing a number on at the end — for example, “Paddington 2” — the “Bridget Jones” series does not operate that way.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Bridget Jones comes to the rescue in a season where the holiday of love has so far been dedicated to horror (Heart Eyes) and action (Love Hurts). The latter, a violent Jackie Chan ripoff, is the one Universal chose to release in theaters in the U.S., but the fourth go-round with the delightful romantic comedy Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is the one Universal should have given as a valentine to U.S. exhibition. Instead, it is only being released in theaters internationally, and of course the UK for this very British movie. As for America? Well, you better subscribe to Peacock because inexplicably it is going day-and-date straight to streaming.

In the mid-2010s, there was a funny Twitter account called @ModernSeinfeld, which floated ideas for “Seinfeld” episodes as if the show had lasted into the 21st century. (Sample episode: “Jerry’s Gf texts in the movies but acts like it’s okay because she sits in the last row.”) At this point, you could almost imagine devising something similar for Bridget Jones, the winsomely discombobulated London singleton who first appeared, in the novel “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” back in 1996. I’m thinking of potential movie comedies like “Bridget Jones: Love Me Tinder,” “Bridget Jones: Last Brexit to Brooklyn,” and “Bridget Jones’s Old Tweets that Got Her Canceled.”
There’s a Tinder reference in the new Bridget Jones movie, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” along with japes about Harry Styles and lip serum that you buy on the dark web (it turns Bridget’s mouth into a faux-Kardashian swollen...

Oh, Bridget. Ever since she burst onto the scene, first in Helen Fielding’s popular Independent newspaper column in 1995 and bestselling novel a year later, then on the big screen in 2001, Bridget Jones has earned her place in the pantheon of iconic British characters. The first film’s script might have been co-written by romcom king Richard Curtis, but Bridget Jones’s Diary offered an authentic female perspective on the trials and tribulations of finding love at the turn of the millennium. It was goodbye to lovesick, floppy-haired heroes, and hello to giant knickers and Marlboro Lights.
Twenty-four years and a few sequels later, in Mad About The Boy, we find Bridget living on the edge of Hampstead Heath in North London, with two children under ten years old. Beloved husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), the ultra-honourable human rights lawyer, has been dead for four years, killed in Sudan. Bridget...

As the world prepares to wave goodbye — at least, for now — to Bridget Jones, maybe no one will miss her more than Renée Zellweger.
“I don’t think I’ll ever let go of Bridget,” the star tells The Hollywood Reporter (no shred of her impeccable British accent discernible — a Texan through and through).
Bridget Jones first landed on our screens nearly 25 years ago in Bridget Jones’s Diary when Zellweger embodied Helen Fielding’s titular protagonist like the character had been written for her. The movie was based on Fielding’s first book of the same name, which was an instant ’90s hit and sold over two million copies worldwide by 2006.
In its 2001 film adaptation, Zellweger fell headfirst into life as a London girl and audiences around the globe fell in love with a verbally incontinent spinster who drinks like a fish, smokes like a chimney and dresses like her mother.
“I don’t think I’ll ever let go of Bridget,” the star tells The Hollywood Reporter (no shred of her impeccable British accent discernible — a Texan through and through).

Renée Zellweger is opening up about why she took a break from acting.
In an interview with British Vogue published Wednesday, the Bridget Jones’s Diary star was joined by her co-star Hugh Grant for a conversation. Zellweger reflected on her acting hiatus from 2010 to 2016.
When asked why she did it, Zellweger said, “Because I needed to. I was sick of the sound of my own voice. When I was working, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renée? Oh, is this your mad voice?’ It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.”
While taking a hiatus, Zellweger said she kept busy. “I wrote music and studied international law. I built a house, rescued a pair of older doggies, created a partnership that led to a production company, advocated for and fundraised with a sick friend, and spent a lot of time with family...

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy continues the slice-of-life franchise with a shocking twist, as revealed when the first trailer dropped online. In Bridget Jones 4, the beloved bumbling lawyer Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) has passed away, leaving Bridget (Rene Zellweger) a widow and single mother to the couple's two children.
The Bridget Jones movie franchise first began in 2001 with Bridget Jones's Diary, following a 30-something Bridget making her way through life and love in Y2K-era London, based on Helen Fielding's novel of the same name.
The franchise's hilariously offbeat dialogue and dry British humor made the film a smash hit, despite the changes the Bridget Jones movies make to the books. Over 20 years later, the Bridget Jones franchise remains culturally relevant namely, for its ability to showcase a dynamic and realistic female lead with contemporary commentary through Bridget's career as a news producer. Fans cannot get enough of Renee Zellweger‘s performance as Bridget Jones!
So much so that the franchise is still going strong two decades later. However, she had to audition for the role like every other actor, and she faced some stiff competition.
The actress landed the titular role in 2001′s beloved British rom-com Bridget Jones’s Diary. Her casting was controversial to some as Renee is American and did not necessarily reflect the character, who is based on a novel.
Despite some of the reservations, Renee proved to be expertly cast in the role, which she has reprised in 2004′s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and 2016′s Bridget Jones’s Baby.
She’s back in action for a fourth project – Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which arrives in February 2025 and features several other familiar faces.

Nearly a decade after the latest sequel to Bridget Jones's Diary hit theaters, the beloved romantic comedy series continues with Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Based on the eponymous Helen Fielding novel and released in 2001, Bridget Jones's Diary concerns 30-something Bridget (Rene Zellweger) who decides to take control of her life and journals the entire experience. Itself a send-up to Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones's Diary quickly became a classic of the cinematic romance genre, and it didn't take long for the blockbuster to receive a sequel.
2004's Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason again drew inspiration from Helen Fielding's book and continued Bridget's journey. It would take over a decade for 2016's Bridget Jones's Baby to arrive, but the threequel not only brought fans back in droves but also earned high marks from critics compared to its immediate predecessor. While the trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy looks promising, it is still strange to see series villain Hugh Grant return to rom-com territory after a string of darker roles. Early in his career, Hugh Grant largely steered clear of darker fare. His lone early horror role, 1988s The Lair of the White Worm, was a campy, silly supernatural horror-comedy that leaned into the latter over the former. His biggest successes throughout the 90s came in the form of romantic period dramas like Sense and Sensibility and rom-coms. Grant starred in a lot of classic rom-coms.

The Bridget Joness Diary movies were adapted from Helen Fieldings novels, and they made some significant changes to the source material. The movies follow the title character, Bridget, a woman in her thirties struggling with her love life. So far, only three books have been adapted into films. However, it's been confirmed Bridget Jones: Mad About That Boy will be released in 2025.
It's not uncommon for films to make alterations to their source material to help tell their story. Despite the changes the Bridget Jones movies make to the book, a huge part of Bridget's story remained unchanged. The Bridget Jones movies managed to capture the essence of the beloved book character despite the changes made to the source material.

The first trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has been released, and Renée Zellweger’s Bridget is still looking for love as she comes to terms with the tragedy of losing Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). Yep, you read that correctly, Darcy is no more and the trailer serves up the bad news straight away.
Still, the only way is up for our Bridget as she gets on with life, and the prospect of not one but two possible romances. There’s the hunky and age-appropriate Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a teacher at Bridget’s children’s school and the wild card of Roxster (Leo Woodall), the youthful bit of rough that should be a red flag.

As Bridget Jones prepares to return to the big screen next year, a whole new generation is identifying with the beloved films’ literary source material.
Author Helen Fielding recently opened up about her newfound fanbase at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and how the titular character has become even more relevant to friends of her 18-year-old daughter, amid the age of TikTok and the Body Positivity Movement.
“What’s good now is that there’s a new audience for Bridget that’s young, that’s Gen Z,” she said, according to BBC. “I’m really happy when 18-year-olds and 20-year-olds come with their books and talk to me about it and say that they find it comforting to laugh at these things.”
Fielding added, “I spent the last two years surrounded by teenage girls, because they all came to my house, and I can see what they’ve got in common with Bridget.

Although he couldn’t make it to her baby shower, Hugh Grant is back in Bridget Jones’ life.
The Golden Globe winner will return for the upcoming fourth installment of Renée Zellweger‘s romantic comedy franchise, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, after carving out a spot for his womanizing character Daniel Cleaver.
He recently explained to Vanity Fair why he opted not to reprise the role for 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby. “I really couldn’t fit my character in—he just didn’t belong, so I stepped aside,” he said.
The third installment featured Zellweger’s titular character unexpectedly pregnant at 40, trying to determine whether the father is her ex Mark (Colin Firth) or handsome American stranger Jack (Patrick Dempsey). Although Grant did not return for that movie, Bridget attends a memorial for her ex, who is presumed dead after a plane crash.

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is currently filming, and a fresh piece of casting news has come to light. Possible spoiler.
Spoilers for the Bridget Jones films lie ahead.
Helen Fielding’s big knicker wearing, perennial singleton Bridget Jones, as played by Renee Zellweger, has headlined three feature films so far – 2001’s Bridget Jones’ Diary, 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason and 2016’s Bridget Jones’ Baby.
The first film followed Bridget as she struck up a relationship with the smarmy, charming Daniel Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant, not realising that her perfect match is Mark Darcy. Darcy of course was played, in an inspired piece of casting, by Colin Firth – the pathetic fist fights between the two men stand as highlights of both films.
The second sees Bridget once again taken in by Cleaver’ charms in Thailand, before she ends up in prison. The third film sees Bridget end up pregnant,...

Buzz Cason, the Nashville singer, songwriter and producer best known for “Everlasting Love,” the buoyant Motown-style pop song covered numerous times and appearing in many films since Robert Knight recorded the original in 1967, died June 16 at his home in Franklin, Tennessee. He was 84.
His death was announced by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. A cause of death was not specified.
“Everlasting Love,” with its impossibly catchy and immediately recognizable chorus that begins “Open up your eyes/Then you’ll realize/Here I stand with my everlasting love,” has made the charts in various versions, most notably Carl Carlton’s 1974 cover that hinted at the imminent arrival of disco. In the U.K., the song was a #1 hit in 1968 by London-based pop band Love Affair.
Other artists who have covered the song, written by Cason with writing partner Mac Gayden, include Gloria Estefan, Rex Smith and Rachel Sweet , U2,...

Hugh Grant has been expanding on his career beyond his famous rom-coms, having starred in last year’s special effects-laden big-budget films Wonka and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Grant will be returning to his popular franchise with Renée Zellweger for the recently announced upcoming fourth film in the Bridget Jones movies, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. The plot is said to “pick up with Bridget in her early fifties, as she navigates the challenges of modern life while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood.”
Grant recently spoke with the publication People as he teases the next installment in the series. The English actor stated,
It is very moving as well as funny. It’s partly based on Helen Fielding’s experiences of bringing up two children by herself after her husband died. And so Bridget is bringing up two kids and wondering whether she should ever go back to dating.

Twenty years ago this month, the fairy tale-like romantic comedy “13 Going on 30” starring Jennifer Garner made its way into cinemas. The actress played Jenna Rink, a socially awkward soon-to-be 13-year-old who quickly realizes that she “hates being 13.” She makes a birthday wish to be “thirty, flirty and thriving.” With the little help of some wishing dust, she wakes up the next morning to discover that her wish has come true.
It was a defining moment in Garner’s early career. Her role as Sydney Bristow in the television action thriller series “Alias” had made her a breakout star (including at awards shows) just a few years earlier. She won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress in 2002 and had competed again in 2003 and earlier in 2004. She had also been nominated for two Emmy Awards one Screen Actors Guild trophy.
While Garner already had a number of film credits on her resume,...

Hugh Grant is speaking out about the upcoming fourth Bridget Jones movie, and unfortunately, seemed to confirm some upsetting news for fans in the process.

Now, Hugh is revealing a few details about the film, which will hit Peacock over Valentine’s Day in 2025.

Bridget Jones 4 will be based on the book Mad About the Boy, where Bridget is a widow and explores dating in her 50s. Mark Darcy's death in the movie is necessary for Bridget's story to move forward, exploring new challenges. Hugh Grant's return as Daniel Cleaver poses a risk of repeating old, tired storylines in Bridget Jones 4.
A fourth Bridget Jones movie is officially happening with most of the main cast back except Colin Firth, which raises concerns about the story and Bridget herself. In 2001, the world met Bridget Jones (Reneé Zellweger) in Sharon Maguire’s rom-com Bridget Jones’s Diary, based on Helen Fielding's novels. Bridget Jones’s Diary follows 32-year-old Bridget, a single woman working and living in London who decides to change her life and becomes determined to improve herself and look for love. Bridget succeeds, but she also ends up in a love triangle with...
