Arnold Schwarzenegger seems to have approved of his son, Patrick going n*de in ‘that’ scene in the premiere of The White Lotus. The son of Alessandro Nivola and Mary Poppins Returns star Emily Mortimer, Sam has been in films like Maestro and White Noise. Why Did Nicolas Cage’s Wife Patricia Arquette Eat Garlic Before Kissing Ewan McGregor Onscreen? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)
Nicolas Cage and Patricia Arquette were a power couple in the late ‘90s when both were reaching the heights of their careers. But in their golden era, a movie rarely lacked intimate scenes, making the presence of a smooching partner a given.
Cage and Arquette were no exception either. Like Hollywood relationships, they inevitably faced the awkwardness of filming intimate scenes with co-stars. However, they had a unique method to ensure professional boundaries remained intact — garlic.
While promoting the second season of the hit show Severance with Adam Scott, Arquette disclosed her peculiar agreement in a First We Feast video. Nicolas Cage has begged other actors not to let AI "manipulate" their performances. The 'Face/Off' star took to the stage at the Saturn Awards in Universal City, California on Sunday (02.02.25) to accept the best actor in a film prize for his role in 'Dream Scenario - and after thanking his director Kristoffer Borgli, Cage went on to issue a plea to fellow screen stars not to let anyone use artificial intelligence to tinker with their art.He told the audience: "Thank you for recognising 'Dream Scenario'. This is in fact one of my favorite movies I’ve ever made. "I have to thank Kristoffer Borgli for his direction, his writing, his editing and for creating this incredibly disturbing but hilarious world that he dreamt up."But there is another world that is also disturbing me. It’s happening right now around all of us: the new AI world.

From the bouncer brawler Road House to the high-octane spy caper True Lies, there are plenty of great mindless action movies out there for Fast & Furious fans to enjoy. What makes the Fast & Furious movies so much fun is that they allow the audience to switch off their brain. They flagrantly defy the laws of physics with their absurd action set-pieces. James Bond movies tend to have complicated plots and the Bourne movies deal with heavy themes, but the Fast & Furious saga doesn’t strive to do anything more than entertain.
There are plenty of other great action movies that fall into this category. Directors like Michael Bay and stars like Jason Statham have made a career out of action movies that stimulate the audience’s adrenaline while giving their intellect some much-needed rest. There are action movies with ridiculous premises that make no sense, like the face-swapping plot of Face/Off,...

Since then, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent has established itself as a must-see action-packed comedy film.

With plenty of humorous and ridiculous moments from the cast of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, even non-Nic Cage fans can enjoy this wacky and wild buddy comedy that's now streaming on Netflix.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent cast and character guide. Directed by Tom Gormican from a screenplay by him and Kevin Etten, the film breaks the fourth wall by having Nicolas Cage portraying a fictional version of himself — Nick Cage, an actor who can no longer land a major studio role and is in a lot of debt despite having starred in blockbusters like National Treasure. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a rare movie wherein an actor playing a version of themselves works on many levels.
The plot combines various genres and leans quite a bit into the buddy comedy aspect. It’s unclear where Gormican and Etten may have gotten the idea for the movie, but Cage certainly has no issue spoofing parts of his career and making meta jokes about the films he’s made and the movie industry at large. As the actor's resurgence continues, a recent Nicolas Cage hit is finding a new streaming home. Even before landing his Oscar win for Leaving Las Vegas, the actor had made a name for himself in the '80s with leading roles in everything from the teen romantic comedy Valley Girl to the Coen brothers' Raising Arizona. He would solidify himself as a household name with his work in the action genre throughout the '90s and 2000s, including Michael Bay's The Rock, John Woo's Face/Off and the National Treasure franchise.
For the majority of the 2010s, Cage infamously became better known for his work in critically panned direct-to-video movies, which he has since explained stemmed from encountering financial problems and taking on as many projects as possible to make up for it. He would begin to enjoy a career resurgence with the 2018 psychedelic horror movie Mandy and the crime drama Pig,...

Disney might not be exactly known for their R-rated films, but the company has had a hand in creating some surprisingly high-profile and brilliant movies aimed at adults only over the years. Disney has cultivated a family-friendly image for a long time now, from the carefully-curated broad appeal of franchises like Pixar, Star Wars, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the classic animated films of Disney's golden age. It might surprise many Disney fans to know that the House of Mouse is behind some of the best R-rated films ever.
To help keep the Disney brand name squeaky clean in the eyes of the general public, the company primarily uses subsidiary entertainment companies to produce its R-rated features, such as Touchstone and Hollywood pictures. In recent years, however, Disney has explored actually allowing a very R-rated film, Deadpool & Wolverine to release under their main brand by way of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

The 1990s were the decade for action movies. From Mission: Impossible to The Matrix, some of the best action thriller franchises were born in the '90s. From Speed to Face/Off, some of the best action movies came out in the '90s and left an indelible mark on action filmmaking. There's nothing quite as intoxicating as watching a larger-than-life action hero delivering cheesy lines and escaping unscathed from impossible encounters, and directors and actors in the 1990s knew that. And in 2025, some of the best action movies from the decade will turn 30.
Some great action movies from the 1990s that barely anyone remembers were grounded or gritty and toned down the extravagance of the hero persona, thus leaning into the thriller component of the genre. Alessandro Nivola has been praised for his role in The Brutalist but faced a very different response for his performance in Kraven the Hunter. Sony’s latest (and probably final) film in its Spider-Man universe received harsh reviews and bombed at the box office.

Although cinema is an art form, first and foremost, it is also a business that requires financial support to be sustained. A healthy box office is necessary for the medium to remain a cornerstone of popular culture, as studios will only be willing to invest in future projects if it is proven that there is an audience that is willing to go out and see them. 2024 was a year in which there were tremendous box office highs, but the delays due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes did lead to some crushing lows.
Box office performances are a compelling way to examine where the industry is headed, but it is not necessarily an indication of quality. Although films like “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Inside Out 2,” “Kung Fu Panda 4,” “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” and “Wicked: Part One” performed extraordinarily well this year, few publications that take themselves seriously...

You know a movie is legendary when, even decades later, its characters are still imprinted on our minds. A Nicolas Cage movie with a 62% Rotten Tomatoes score receives a glowing review from a mafia expert. Cage began his career in the 1980s by appearing in films such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Rumble Fish, and Moonstruck. Cage won the Academy Award for Best Actor in recognition of his starring role in 1995's Leaving Las Vegas, which is widely considered Nicolas Cage's best 1990s' movie. The 1990s also saw Cage starring in several action movies, including The Rock, Con Air, and Face/Off.
The quality and reception of his movies varied significantly through the 2000s and 2010s, ranging from the popular National Treasure films to the critically panned Ghost Rider movies. The perception surrounding Cage and his movies began to change in more recent years, especially with his performances in Pig, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and Longlegs all garnering critical acclaim. A sequel to the 1997 action hit Face/Off has been in the works for several years now, but things never seem to have progressed much further than that, not least because the project’s director, Adam Wingard is so busy.
Until recently, Wingard had a Godzilla x Kong trilogy to juggle, along with Onslaught, a Thundercats adaptation, another project called Hardcore and the sequel to Face/Off on his slate. As we tend to see with filmmakers with such packed schedules, something always gets lost in the shuffle and so the possibility of Face/Off 2 ever coming to fruition never felt like a sure thing.
Since Wingard stepped away from helming the third Godzilla x Kong film, and with Onslaught currently filming, the director’s upcoming slate looks noticeably lighter,...

Since making his acting debut in 1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," Nicolas Cage has gone on to amass an astounding filmography that has never stopped evolving. He's admittedly made some baffling choices as an actor, starring in the infamously terrible "Deadfall" (which has a zero rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and the 2019 dud "Grand Isle," whose flaws have more to do with its storytelling than Cage's performance as a haunted war veteran. Really, we would be here all day if I were to list the scores of middling-to-awful straight-to-video flicks Cage has starred in, yet the actor never, ever phones it in and shows up to every role with an intensity that is tough to match.
Being one of those actors who shines brighter than ever when given layered, intriguing roles to work with, Cage has delivered several unforgettable performances worth rooting for. For starters, we have the lesser-known...

The 1990s were full of incredible action movies that deserved a sequel, despite never really getting one. The 90s were responsible for some brilliant action movie franchises, from the Die Hard sequels to the continuation of James Cameron's Terminator with one of the single greatest action films of all time. However, the decade also produced plenty of classic action films that, for whatever reason, continue to stand alone to this day as one-off adventures.
In the modern age of filmmaking, the sequel rules all, with nearly every blockbuster that comes out having some form or another of brand recognition thanks to sequels, prequels, spin-offs, and adaptations. Thus, it's hard to imagine that action films with even a modicum of success were allowed to remain untouched in their IP, no matter how much they may have deserved to see their stories continue. For one reason or another, some of the...

Nicolas Cage Thought He Was An Alien ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Nicolas Cage’s flair for the eccentric might have otherworldly roots—or so he thought as a kid. The Face/Off actor revealed in an interview with Rampstyle magazine that he genuinely believed he was an alien growing up. And the twist? He was shocked to learn otherwise.
“I was certain I was from another planet,” Cage confessed, explaining how his father fueled the idea. “He felt like he had to introduce himself to me because I was such an alien.” That belief stayed with Cage until a doctor’s visit shattered his cosmic self-image. “I found out I had normal organs and a skeleton,” he shared. But that “alien” feeling didn’t just fade away—it shaped his journey. Struggling to connect with people, Cage found solace in David Bowie’s The Man Who Fell to Earth. That movie inspired...

Photo Credit: Paramount Pictures With its clever premise and a flurry of twists and turns, Face/Off became an instant classic when it was released in 1997, with a fan base big enough that they’re still talking about making a long-awaited sequel. The action film had stars John Travolta and Nicolas Cage switching identities, each getting to play each other’s character for part of the movie. For Travolta, the idea of doing that — especially with somebody like Cage — made the movie impossible to pass up. The preview for the eighth Tom Cruise-starring "Mission: Impossible" movie was released on November 11, 2024, and it looks to be the final film Cruise will be involved with. Titled "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," the preview is full of portent and global threats that, perhaps naturally, only Ethan Hunt can quell. The story, it seems, will continue directly from "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, Part One" (the "Part One" has since been dropped) as it follows Hunt's rivalry with a dangerous artificial intelligence broadcasting from a lost submarine somewhere in the Arctic Ocean.
Since 1996, the "Mission: Impossible" movies have been gigantic cinematic events, with each one drawing huge crowds, and allowing Tom Cruise to increasingly assert his influence over their creative elements. Cruise doesn't write or direct, but a lot of the direction, editing, casting, and music rests in his hands. Brian De Palma's 1996 original is downright...

Nicolas Cage is one of America’s greatest movie stars, and certainly its most distinctive one. His singular genius will be the subject of a retrospective festival at Metrograph, the wonderful independent movie theater in New York City.
IndieWire reports that “Nicolas Uncaged” will present 35mm showings of 10 of Cage’s iconic films: “Adaptation,” “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” “Con Air,” “Moonstruck,” “National Treasure,” “Pig,” “Red Rock West,” “Vampire’s Kiss,” “The Wicker Man,” and “Wild at Heart.”
“Heaped with praise and panegyrics as one of the finest screen actors of his generation, pilloried and parodied as an anything-for-a-paycheck hambone with a weakness for weird wigs and prostheses, Nicolas Cage is a one-man sideshow, a mixture of Marlon Brando, Robert Mitchum, Lon Chaney, and a stick of TNT who takes back ‘serious thespian’ prestige whenever he wants to, dives into grindhouse material and Academy Award hopefuls with the same mad enthusiasm,...

Nicolas Cage is one of our most impressive living actors, and a big part of that is because of his intense love of cinema. He's a true student of the craft, with an obsession for older films that has led him to an extensive knowledge of all the medium has to offer. Cage's passion for his projects has led to him becoming the subject of many memes, mostly using his most over-the-top performances, but the man really knows his stuff. So, when Rotten Tomatoes asked Cage for his five favorite films of all time, he came a little over-prepared, offering his top 13 favorite films instead. He said that he simply couldn't narrow it down to five because "there's different movies for different reasons in different lifetimes," which is the most Nicolas Cage thing he could have said.

Sandra Bullock's name above the title has meant mega-bucks for movie studios over the last 37 years. Combined, her movies have grossed billions of dollars at the global box office, making her one of the most bankable stars of her generation. She's done it by mostly exhibiting good taste in material and, of course, being her irresistibly bubbly self. Everyone, it seems, loves Sandy.
Bullock has a lot to be proud of (most notably the Best Actress Oscar she won for 2009's "The Blind Side"), but when it comes to her bombs, she'll be the first to tell you how lousy they are. She's earned the right to dish on disappointments like "All About Steve," "Two If By Sea" and, dear god, George Sluizer's Hollywoodized remake of his masterful Dutch thriller "The Vanishing." Hang around long enough in the film industry, and you're bound to appear in a stinker or two.

As the film’s opening credits proclaim: Nic Cage is The Surfer, but he’s struggling to catch a wave. Securing his family’s future with a seafront house on a glorious beach in Western Australia is his main ambition. There’s just one issue: the locals aren’t friendly. Spearheaded by their cultish leader Scally (Julian McMahon), the jumped-up blokes who claim the beach as their own would rather knock your teeth out than let you surf. However, ‘The Surfer’ is determined, he’ll just have to suffer first.
Unfortunately, so will we: The audience.
I have a theory about Nic Cage and his relationship with the filmmakers that cast him. You see, the man operates on multiple levels of ‘Cage-ness’ based exclusively on what is asked of him. For example, in Face/Off or Con Air, we probably have near total levels of Cage-ness. Even this year, we saw...

John Travolta, who plays Vincent Vega in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, reflects on the movie's impact on his career. Pulp Fiction celebrated its 30th anniversary on October 14, 2024. The cult classic crime movie revived Travolta's career while paving the way to stardom for Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman.
Reflecting on Tarantino's decision to cast him in the lead role, Travolta told Variety the offer back then was "certainly a next level, upper echelon opportunity more along the lines of the Oscar nomination-type performance." His last big role before Pulp was in Look Who's Talking, and Tarantino's offer "raised the bar" for him with "a second chance at a high-end career." Travolta revealed that he was "one of" the director's "favorite actors growing up" and may have something to do with Tarantino's love for "Pauline Kael." Check out what Travolta said:

As fantastical as the concept seems, the first body swap movie dates all the way back to 1916 with the British fantasy flick "Vice Versa," where a young schoolboy magically swaps bodies with his overbearing father. It's based on the even older 1882 novel of the same name and would mark the start of one of the most evergreen cinematic tropes that exists beyond the confines of genre. Body swap movies are most prominent in family-friendly comedy flicks like the "Freaky Friday" franchise or the criminally underrated "Wish Upon a Star" with Danielle Harris and a young Katherine Heigl, or even action films like John Woo's "Face/Off." Science-fiction films usually explore body swapping as some sort of technological advancement, comic books boast plenty of body swap stories (so it's only a matter of time before we see one in live-action), and even horror...

There are several reasons why National Treasure 3 needs to happen, but one reason comes from Nicolas Cage's explanation for his iconic line in the movie. The widely quoted, "I'm gonna steal the Declaration of Independence," is one of the most memorable aspects of National Treasure, largely because of Cage's excellent delivery. The line has followed Cage throughout his career due to its sheer absurdity, but with good reason. It is just that good.
The recent National Treasure 3 updates have hinted that the threequel is in the works, despite several high-profile actors and Cage himself saying that the movie is unlikely. However, there is still hope that a National Treasure 3 story will happen in the next few years given the success of the first two movies and the recent reports on the possibility of a third big-screen installment. One thing is certain, Cage absolutely nailed his performance in National Treasure,...

Nicolas Cage’s net worth should’ve come to par with some of the A-listers in Hollywood. At one point in his career, Cage was one of the highest-paid actors in the industry, earning $20 million each for Gone in Sixty Seconds, Windtalkers, and National Treasure. However, his net worth came crashing down when his spending habits got out of his hands.

In Michael Samoski's 2021 drama "Pig," Nicolas Cage plays a quiet, bearded recluse named Rob Feld who lives in a remote woodland cabin with his unnamed pet pig. The pig is a skilled truffle forager, and Rob makes a living selling truffles to a restaurant supplier (Alex Wolff) who occasionally drives out to his cabin. Rob clearly has a dark past, but has seemingly found peace in the woods. One night, however, Rob is attacked, and his pig is stolen. Rob has to trek into nearby Portland to retrieve his animal friend, and, we learn, confront his past.
As the film progresses, we discover that Rob had unusual connections in the world of Portland's high-end restaurateurs, and that he participated in eatery-related underground fighting rings (!). He's also still in mourning over the death of his wife years before, which was the primary impetus driving Rob to become a recluse. More than anything,...

The popular 2005 police procedural series "Bones" is full of murder, gore, desiccated corpses, and ... bones. Most episodes begin with the two main characters, "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), coming across a corpse, often discovered in an unusual or disturbing death pose. The two agents, backed up by a team of passionate pathologists, will then reverse-engineer the circumstances of the corpse's death and determine the depth of foul play involved. There was typically a great deal of foul play involved.
Like other violent shows about death, murder, and corpses, "Bones" was ideal comfort viewing. Despite all the blood, violence, and misery, "Bones" often skewed tonally light, usually involving eccentric side characters and flippant gallows quips. Also, Bones and Brennan typically solved the mysteries of the rotten cadavers, displaying a police investigative system that worked as perfectly as it was designed to.

"Batman & Robin" was so panned for its campiness that Warner Bros. had no choice but to pivot to a dark and gritty reboot, resulting in Christopher Nolan's acclaimed "Dark Knight" trilogy. This is filmmaking mythology almost as well-known as Batman's own origin of alleyway orphaning. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige even calls "Batman & Robin" one of the most important superhero movies, for it taught studios that fans wouldn't settle for schlock. In hindsight, it's almost unbelievable that "Batman & Robin" and "Batman Begins" premiered only eight years apart; the Dark Knight's fall didn't last long!
There were abandoned plans for director Joel Schumacher to make a third Batman film, though. "Batman Unchained," to be penned by Mark Protosevich (rather than previous screenwriter Akiva Goldsman) was supposedly going to be "darker." The 1990s were a fantastic time for Nicolas Cage and a decade that featured some of his greatest film roles. After building up his reputation throughout the 1980s, this was the era that Cage really broke into the mainstream to become a household name and one of the biggest movie stars Hollywood had ever seen. Nicolas Cage has had one of the most varied careers in Hollywood, but its in the action movie genre that hes had some of his most acclaimed and memorable roles. With three iconic releases in 1996 alone, including The Rock, Con Air, and Face/Off, Cage has made a name for himself as a non-stop worker who's always willing to embrace even the most outlandish of movie premises. From blockbuster smashes to later lesser-known straight-to-video releases, Cage has become a touchstone in modern popular culture and has achieved cult status among action movie lovers.
While some of Cages best movies were undisputed action classics, there were also some heartbreakingly low points in his long and bloated filmography. Whether hes portraying a vengeful father, a man who has escaped from hell, or even a future-seeing action hero, Cage has consistently remained totally committed to his roles and brought his unique style and eccentricities to Hollywoods film landscape.

John Woo’s Next Film Is ‘A Half-Musical’ With Sparks: ‘My First Movie Where I Don’t Need A Stuntman’

John Woo movies always have a spark – the legendary Hong Kong director is responsible for some of the greatest (and most bonkers) action ever committed to the screen, in Hard Boiled and Face/Off and The Killer, to name but a few. But we’ve never had a John Woo movie with Sparks – the legendary cult pop duo also known as Ron and Russell Mael, behind such earworms as ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us’. Until now, that is. Because, as the filmmaker tells Empire in a major upcoming interview, he’s currently working with the art-pop icons on a very different kind of Woo movie.
“My next project is actually a half-musical,” Woo confirms to Empire. “I’m going to be working with the Sparks Brothers, who wrote the script and songs — we are just starting work on some changes to the script.” While the...

While Ben Affleck's career has had some incredible highs, its also filled with underrated releases that deserve to be reappraised. Although some of Afflecks underrated movies gained audience and critical acclaim at the time of release and even hit big at the box office, their lack of cultural relevance today means they have been largely forgotten by viewers at large. Other movies, while not entirely unknown, were absolutely fantastic and have only been recognized as such by movie connoisseurs who realized their status as underappreciated cinematic gems.
The best Affleck movies have had a lasting effect on contemporary cinema, as his Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting screenplay, which he co-wrote and starred in alongside his frequent collaborator Matt Damon, has become the stuff of Hollywood legend. However, other fantastic releases with notable directors like Ridley Scott or Kevin Smith have failed to register and gain the level of recognition they deserve.

Warning: Spoilers for The Killer (2024) below!
I wasn't expecting John Woo's long-delayed remake of The Killer to match the original, but I'm so glad it's still an action delight. I saw the original film late at night on the UK's Channel 4 back before I had any awareness of John Woo movies or Hong Kong cinema. The movie's immense style, the exhilarating action and the incredible turn by leading man Chow Yun-fat combine to make The Killer Woo's best movie, period. I soon sought out the rest of his work, including Hard Boiled and the first two Better Tomorrow movies.
I'll admit that John Woo's American movie output was a mixed bag. There were the highs of Face/Off and Hard Target, but Paycheck felt like the title summed up the cast and crew's participation in it. Woo is one of my all-time top directors, and while his work can be overly melodramatic,...
