Very sad news today as it’s been reported that M. Emmet Walsh has died at the age of 88. No matter the size of the role, the prolific character actor always made a unique impression throughout his long career, which spanned six decades.
M. Emmet Walsh is best known for playing Bryant in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, the captain of the Los Angeles Police Department who tasks Deckard with tracking down the replicants at the beginning of the film. He told THR that the cast and crew weren’t quite sure what the make of the movie when they first saw it. “I don’t know if I really understood what in the hell it was all about,” Walsh said. “We all sat there and it ended. And nothing. We didn’t know what to say or to think or do! We didn’t know what in the hell we had done!

A few months ago, director Dwight H. Little – the director of such films as Rapid Fire (starring Brandon Lee), The Phantom of the Opera (starring Robert Englund), the Steven Seagal vehicle Marked for Death, Free Willy 2, the Wesley Snipes mystery Murder at 1600, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, Tekken, and my favorite of the Halloween sequels, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers – released a memoir called Still Rolling: Inside the Hollywood Dream Factory (copies can be purchased at This Link). In one passage of the book, Little discusses the series of mistakes and oversights that led to Brandon Lee’s tragic shooting death on the set of The Crow. With a remake of The Crow set to reach theatres in June and Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed having just been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the case of the shooting death on the set of that film,...

Tubi opens June with an intense WWII drama “Inglourious Basterds.” Allied officer Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of five tough Jewish soldiers to spread fear throughout the Third Reich. They have one assignment: assassinate Nazi leaders. Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the unconventional war drama. Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent, and Christopher Walz co-star.

The murder of teenager Hae Min Lee was the focal point of a “Serial” podcast, which questioned if boyfriend Syed was her killer. After serving 22 years in prison, Syed was released, still proclaiming his innocence. Now, he may return.

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

For its list of new releases of February 2022, HBO Max is bringing back one of its biggest original series.
The Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves helped launch HBO Max back in 2020 and now it’s finally back for another season. Raised by Wolves season 2 premieres with three episodes on Feb. 3. This season will continue the conflict between future atheists and theists on a remote planet, while two androids raise some kids.
February 2022 also sees the end of another, more recent HBO Max hit. Peacemaker airs its finale on Feb. 17. Thankfully that same day sees the premiere of another exciting original. Dream Raider is a Mandarin-language sci-fi thriller that carries some big Inception vibes.
There aren’t many original movies of note this month, but there are a lot of recent hits coming to HBO Max as library titles. Nightmare Alley arrives on Feb. 1, followed by The Many Saints of Newark on Feb.

September usually means the beginning of the traditional fall TV season. As such, Hulu’s list of new releases for September 2021 contains some impressive TV swings.
For starters, all of ABC and Fox’s (both now united under the Disney banner alongside Hulu) fall season offerings will be made available to stream on Hulu the next day. More impressively, however, two FX on Hulu originals make their way to the streaming world this month.
The first is the long-awaited adaptation of the classic comic Y: The Last Man. The story of a virus that destroys every mammal with a Y-chromosome (save for one escape artist and his monkey) is set to premiere on September 13. Shortly after that, the B.J. Novak-produced anthology series The Premise arrives on September 16. Even those who are fatigued from timely anthology concepts will want to check this one out.

Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.
WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.
While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.

Just like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and Disney Plus, HBO Max is adding a ton of great new titles to give you some festive treats this holiday season. The Warner streaming service’s December haul isn’t necessarily full of Christmas content – there’s a lot of that already available – but there are definitely a ton of must-see films and TV shows on the lineup, so let’s take a look at the highlights.
December 1st brings a glut of newly licensed titles, including everything from horror prequel Annabelle: Creation to the original Westworld movie. In terms of franchises, you’ll be able to find a bunch of The Crown films, some Final Destinations and the whole Free Willy trilogy on the site next month. HBO Max is set to enter into its second month of existence. And you know what that means: it’s Christmas in July!
HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2020 is highlighted by one prominent Christmas movie: last year’s Emilia Clarke-starring Last Christmas. But the real cause for Christmas in July is all the exciting animated DC content coming our way on the first of the month. July 1 sees the arrival of just about every animated Batman project ever created. July 1 also features the arrival of just about every Justice League animated series ever created as well.
If that weren’t enough, July 1 is also when every live-action Superman movie (save for Man of Steel) makes it streaming debut. July is starting to look like a month where HBO Max establishes its real potential and geek culture bonafides…despite an at-times difficult rollout.

When HBO Max launched last month, DC fans hoped it would be the premiere place to go to watch all their favorite DC content. While the streaming service did have an impressive array of films and TV shows available on launch, there were a lot of notable missing titles, too, due to pre-existing licenses getting in the way. As time goes on, though, more DC properties will end up on the site. Case in point: this July will see a whole heap of superhero content go up on HBO Max.

There are few surefire successes in television. It just so happens that with its new releases for May 2020, Hulu almost certainly found itself one. May 8 sees the debut of all eight episodes of Solar Opposites, the latest sci-fi animated effort from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. This is a brand new story featuring a family of aliens crashing to Earth and learning to live amongst the rest of us weirdos. But the animation style and sci-fi themes hew so closely to Rick and Morty that there’s no way this won’t be a hit.
On the off chance Solar Opposites doesn’t set the world ablaze, Hulu has some other intriguing content lottery tickets for May. The Great premieres on May 15 and is a comedic period piece about Catherine the Great starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. You can’t accuse Hulu of not taking big swings this month!

July 16 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of "Free Willy," the emotional family film which stole the hearts of viewers. Starring Jason James Richter as a young man who becomes friends with an Orca whale named Willy (played by famous whale Keiko), "Free Willy" brought in $77.69 million at the box office and was followed by two sequels: "Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home" and "Free Willy 3: The Rescue."

Another day, another direct-to-dvd video game adaptation! Much like Doa: Dead or Alive and The King of Fighters, Tekken looks extremely low budget but has even fewer recognizable names, with the exception of Luke Goss (Hellboy II: The Golden Army). Perhaps this is so that they could concentrate on getting more talented martial arts fighters instead, but it's hard to tell with all the quick cuts in the trailer. For some reason, I was expecting a bit more from a Tekken movie, just because it seems like a relatively popular series of games, but I'm not sure if there's much else you can do with these fighting game franchises. It's directed by Dwight H. Little who previously did Seagal's Marked For Death, along with Halloween 4 and Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home. Tekken hits theatres in Japan on March 6th, 2010, and although a U.S. release date is still Tbd,...

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid
Where's J. Lo when you need her?
Back in 1997, when she was just Jenny from the block, Jennifer Lopez joined forces with Ice Cube, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson and a gleefully scenery-chomping Jon Voight to do battle with a nasty snake in the 1997 surprise hit Anaconda.
While the picture was a certified B-movie horror-thriller in all its trashy glory, it still managed to strike a chord in a guilty-pleasure sort of way.
There's more where that came from in the sequel, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, and maybe it had to do with the resulting increased CGI budget (the original went the animatronic route), but the new edition is noticeably skimpy on familiar faces.
Unlike Voight, who memorably winked at the audience while he was being munched by the reptilian predator, not all of the performers gathered together here act like they're in on the joke.
But there are still sufficient cheap thrills and enough of the prevailing camp quality to scare up opening weekend numbers that should be well in line with the original's $16.6 million take, followed by a healthy video afterlife.
Where the first one followed the ill-fated Amazon trek taken by a documentary crew, the sequel is set in the jungles of Borneo, where a group of New York pharmacologists has converged in search of a rare orchid believed to hold the key to the production of a life-prolonging serum.
With little time to lose -- the flower only blooms for two weeks every seven years -- the team of scientists is hastily dispatched to the tropical location just in time for monsoon season and, as it so happens, mating season for a particular species of very large semiaquatic creature.
Even before the first attack, there's plenty of tension between the research team's egotistical lead scientist (Matthew Marsden) and the dubious, cell-phone-clutching company rep (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), the logical financial guy (Morris Chestnut), the neurotic computer geek (comic relief Eugene Byrd) and the tough guy loner boat owner (Johnny Messner doing his best Bogart) who agrees to take them all down the river for a hefty fee.
Naturally, part of the fun of these kinds of pictures is trying to figure out who'll be the first to become anaconda kibble based on their overall degree of annoyance (with venomous spiders and pesky leeches also doing their part), and in that regard the film doesn't disappoint.
Directed by Dwight Little (Free Willy 2, Murder at 1600) from a screenplay by John Clafin & Daniel Zelman and Michael Miner & Ed Neumeier (RoboCop), the picture ultimately overcomes some clunky dialogue and clunkier line readings to deliver the goods in a diminished-expectations manner, particularly when the bloodbath gets going.
There's a notable improvement in the visual effects this time around, and cinematographer Stephen F. Windon mines plenty of atmosphere from the authentic Fiji locations, but technical prowess isn't necessarily a desired thing in the B-movie universe, where the cheese factor is still a highly regarded component.
