Before he returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a third Black Panther movie, Ryan Coogler will step into the horror genre for Sinners, which is set to hit theaters next month.

On the heels of a spoiler-filled full trailer, Warner Bros. has released a new poster for the movie, giving us another look at Michael B. Jordan as one of two twin brothers who find themselves facing-off against vampires in the Jim Crow-era Deep South.

In addition, the movie has been given an official R-rating for "strong bloody violence, sexual content and language."

Some horror hounds were worried that the studio might bring this one in with a PG-13, but it sounds like, at the very least, we can expect some blood-soaked carnage. Reports from test-screenings have been mixed, but that last trailer definitely seemed to get more people on board.

The marketing for Ryan Coogler's Sinners has been keeping a pretty tight lid on the major plot points up until now, and some fans were growing a little impatient about the lack of undead foes in the teasers for what was originally described as a vampire movie.

Well, Warner Bros. has now released a full trailer for the Black Panther director's Jim Crow-era horror film, and it might just reveal a little too much!

The trailer gives us a much better idea of what to expect from this Southern Gothic tale, making it very clear that Michael B. Jordan's characters (he plays twin brothers) and their allies will be facing-off against some pretty terrifying-looking blood-suckers.

From Fruitvale Station to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ryan Coogler has established himself as one of the most vital voices in filmmaking over the past 12 years, and now he's stepping into the world of horror with his latest film, Sinners. Ahead of the movie's April 18th release in theaters, Warner Bros. revealed a new trailer for Sinners that sinks its teeth into visceral scares and unveils the vampiric side of its chilling and emotional story.

Daily Dead recently took part in a virtual Sinners trailer preview event with Ryan Coogler hosted by Juju Green. During the insightful conversation about Sinners, Coogler discussed how this film is especially a personal project for him:

My maternal grandfather is from Mississippi. And my uncle James, who passed away while I was finishing up Creed, was also from Mississippi. And it was a place I had never been. My maternal grandfather passed before I was born.

The super spy genre is an especially attractive one, as the plots can be thin, and old formulas can be recycled over and over again. However, it’s worth noting that none of these streaming spy flicks have ever successfully launched a franchise, with most viewing movies like The Grey Man, The Mother, Heart of Stone or Ghosted as mediocre one-offs.

Back in Action is one of the most Netflix films out of all the Netflix films on Netflix. By this, I mean that it has nothing that will inspire you to keep your eyes on the screen, but it isn’t bad to keep it in the background.

Directed by Seth Gordon, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Brendan O’Brien, the Netflix spy action comedy-drama film revolves around former CIA spies Emily and Matt, who gave up their life of action and adventure to raise a family but are pulled back into the action after their secret identities are exposed.

Back in Action could’ve been a fun espionage action romp, but it neither has the charm of True Lies nor the bombastic action of, well, True Lies. Everything in the film feels low effort...

Universal is looking to Jamie Lee Curtis to pick up where Angela Lansbury left off for the studio’s Murder, She Wrote movie. There’s no deal yet, but Curtis is the studio’s top choice to play Jessica Fletcher in a film based on the 12-season CBS series.

The script is by Dumb Money scribes Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, and Lord Miller and Amy Pascal are producing it. Plans to scope out a Murder, She Wrote film come at a time when whodunit stories are making a killer comeback. Rian Johnson’s Knives Out Mysteries series is a smash hit with audiences. At the same time, other titles like Netflix’s Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown as the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), and Kenneth Branagh’s revival of Hercule Poirot are great additions to the genre’s offerings.

Classic sitcoms from the 1950s obviously look a lot different than modern TV comedies. For starters, they were mostly in black and white. Also, they seemingly took place in an alternate reality where toilets and queen-sized beds don’t exist.

But a lot of old-timey TV shows now look terrific thanks to high definition home video transfers. On Blu-ray, Leave It to Beaver looks so crisp and clear, it almost feels as if you could reach out and touch the characters (and then ask them why in god’s name they nicknamed a kid “Beaver”).

Comedy fans were understandably excited when Paramount Home Entertainment announced that the entirety of I Love Lucy would be released on Blu-ray, in a box set containing a whopping 33 discs. Yes, finally, we’ll be able to see every single pore and bead of sweat on Lucy’s face as she shoves assembly-line chocolates into her mouth.

During the vibrant Red Sea Film Festival, actor Omar Miller discussed his experience in Gabriele Salvatores’ new film, “Naples to New York.” This historical drama, influenced by Federico Fellini’s early work, follows the story of two children who become stowaways on a ship bound for America in 1949 and embark on a transformational adventure.

Miller portrays George, an American cook who becomes an important part of the children’s journey. What distinguishes this film is its unique genesis; it is based on a narrative written by Fellini and his partner, Tullio Pinelli, in the 1940s, long before Fellini rose to international prominence as a filmmaker.

“This is one of the few times as an actor where you sign up for one film and end up making another film, but that other film is better than the film you thought you signed up for,” Miller said during an interview at the Deadline Studio in Jeddah.

The 1990s were full of incredible action movies that deserved a sequel, despite never really getting one. The 90s were responsible for some brilliant action movie franchises, from the Die Hard sequels to the continuation of James Cameron's Terminator with one of the single greatest action films of all time. However, the decade also produced plenty of classic action films that, for whatever reason, continue to stand alone to this day as one-off adventures.

Few Hollywood duos are as iconic as Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron. The two have had quite the journey together; creating some of the biggest movies in their careers over the course of a decade. Starting in 1984, they made one of the most iconic action films of all time, The Terminator.

Soon after, they made the much-anticipated 1991 sequel to the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In 1994, they collaborated once more in their cult-classic film, True Lies. With how much success they have seen together, one cannot help but wonder if they could have done more work together.

However, it would seem that they almost got the opportunity to collaborate again in one of Hollywood’s most iconic franchises, Planet of the Apes.

Director James Cameron’s The Terminator is celebrating its fortieth anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, it’s the latest one of the director’s movies to get a radical 4K restoration done by Park Road Post, a post-production facility owned by Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films. This company is behind some of the most incredible, acclaimed restorations in recent memory, including Peter Jackson’s WWI documentary, They Shall Not Grow Old, and his The Beatles’ Get Back documentary.

But they’ve also been controversial, with James Cameron using them to significantly alter the looks of several of his films as they hit 4K. Notably, each film had been completely wiped of any film-like grain, making them look more like contemporary films than those made in the 1980s and 90s. This was especially noticeable in Aliens, which always sported a grainy look due to the high-speed film stock used.

After 21 years, Disney is finally rolling the ball on the Freaky Friday sequel, which is set to see the many returning faces from the original cast, including Mark Harmon and Jamie Lee Curtis. While Harmon is mostly notable for his feats on the small screen, especially his years-long stint on NCIS, the original Freaky Friday remains his highest-grossing big-screen release to date.

When James Cameron wrote ‘the future is not set’, he wasn’t kidding. The year was 1982 and Cameron — then a Roger Corman-schooled production designer, art director, effects guru and general Jim of all trades — was in Rome, directing a few ill-fated days on Piranha II before getting the boot, when a vision came to him in a fever dream. It was a hellish image, of a chrome skeleton, an unstoppable robot that Cameron decided was from the future. He called it, and the movie it inspired, The Terminator.

When he got back to Los Angeles, licking his wounds, Cameron started writing the screenplay for a movie in which that unstoppable robot travelled back in time to try to kill the mother of the leader of a future resistance. It included that line, ‘the future is not set’. Which, for Cameron, wasn’t so much a line, more a mission statement.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences laid off a major contingent of staff members in its archive and library on Wednesday, including Academy Film Archive director of 24 years Mike Pogorzelski. A source with knowledge of the changes says that several impacted employees had worked at the Academy for more than a decade. Across archive, library and museum collection, 16 employees were laid off.

The downsizing, announced on Wednesday by Academy CEO Bill Kramer in an internal statement obtained by Variety, comes amid an ongoing restructuring initiative at the organization. The cutbacks place the archive, the library and the collecting unit’s operations under a newly formed Academy Collection and Preservation department.

“As part of this work in building the new Academy Collection and Preservation department, some team members will be leaving the Academy this week,” Kramer wrote, adding the note that “less than 2% of our overall workforce” had been impacted.

Building on what is already the largest film-related collection in the world, comprised of more than 52 million items, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed some of their most recent acquisitions today, including the Studio Ghibli animation collection, which contains more than 80 pieces of original art by Hayao Miyazaki and Noboru Yoshida, as well as the studio’s Japanese movie posters and animator’s desk. Another hot ticket item, presented at the Academy Museum Gala on October 19 in Los Angeles, is Quentin Tarantino’s personal, handwritten script for “Pulp Fiction,” which won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar and celebrated its 30th anniversary this year.

Filmmakers Curtis Hanson, Nicole Holofcener, Barbara Kopple, Oliver Stone, and Paul Verhoeven also donated their personal collections to the Academy, which features production records, photographs, scripts, and more from films such as “L.A. Confidential,” “Harlan County, U.S.A,” “Platoon,” “Showgirls,” and “Enough Said.

Fans of actor Bill Paxton — and we are legion — likely know that he made his directorial debut in 1980, helming the music video for Barnes & Barnes' immortal classic "Fish Heads." The video, made on a very, very low budget, featured Paxton as a buyer and enthusiast of the titular ichthyoid crania, shown throwing them a birthday party and generally enjoying their company. The video also featured a cameo from Dr. Demento, the famed Los Angeles DJ responsible for proliferating hundreds of well-known novelty hits, and for bringing "Weird Al" Yankovic to the world's attention.
