A decade later, Demi Moore was sued for sexual harassment by the caretaker of her Idaho ranch, Lawrence Bass, who claimed that she hit on him in the same manner she used to approach Douglas' character in this film, then fired him after he rejected her advances. The case was dismissed.
In the United Kingdom, the film's poster was removed from Liverpool bus shelters because it was considered too sexually suggestive, especially in light of the fact that Liverpool County Council had just run an ad campaign promoting the safety of their buses to women traveling alone at night.
Caroline Goodall's role as Michael Douglas' wife was beefed up when the actress came on board. In the original novel, the character disappears for most of the latter part of the story.
Annette Bening was originally set for the female lead. Bening co-starred with Michael Douglas the following year in The American President (1995).
The press kit for the film was the first multimedia press kit issued by Warner Bros. with them producing it on 1.44 megabyte floppy disk.
